Djoko is playing 500 miles from his max right now. It's like he's playing against a 6 year old and trying to keep things friendly. The step from this to Nadal will be significant but if he pushes his 'never say die' button, he'll be fine.Tenez wrote:I think Djoko will get him on Weds. Especially knowing that Nadal tires. But Djoko can have some big slumps as well.
The last 30 minutes of switching between Lenglen and Chartier have given me comfort. Nitb is right: Nadal will panic against Djoko.

I don't blame Gasquet. He had a good tournament, even had a few strong moments mentally, but Djoko is just too good.

Great technique certainly! Talent I am not that sure. He would need to stand closer to the baseline. Though one reason he doesn't stand close is probably his mouvement/footwork is not that good.legendkillar wrote:Tenez wrote:Gasquet is a tragedy!

Nadal will panic but Djoko is fragile on the big occasions.

One sided matches are only fun when Fed is involved.....the others one sided matches are frustrating!

Seeing them both last year, Chardy's FH is definitely better, it's absolutely stinging on grass, but his movement seems limited, a bit like Gasquet, never in the centre of baseline, also doesn't move in as much as he could or should.
Sock's movement is looser and relaxed.

I wonder what the maximum I can withdraw from my bank account is.
Pretty sure having money placed on Djoko on Wednesday is considerably more secure than in Santander.

You lot don't half talk rubbish some times. I'm sure Murray sleeps fine too.noleisthebest wrote:Yes, but Murray got so much support from LTA, almost a card blanche...and similar to Nadal, he got his head down and worked hard. And did all it took to get the "edge".Tenez wrote:it must be so gutting for Chardy to see the way Murray went as they were of the same build when young.
Talented people find it difficult to push themselves to and beyond their limits. Some simply don't want to. It's a big step into soulless land with no return...
Just look at Stakh...
Chardy may be gutted, but he sleeps well.

Gasquet on Novak: "He is the No. 1 worldwide . So I will not be discouraged by my performance today. He is stronger , simply. There is nothing else to say . He was stronger , he hits the ball better, he serves better, he returns better. After I tried to play , we played still two hours. He has such a ball striking quality that's hard , it gives very, very rarely easy return , he runs everywhere, it's hard. It is incredible , he plays tennis to perfection. The ball hit on both sides that there is never a time when you can return to the court, where you have a little time to play,"
It's bizarre how the 2 evolved from the very beginning. There were quite close level wise. I actually think that Gasquet was better but more nervous already.
2007 Tennis Masters Cup
China Hard RR Gasquet, Richard
6-4, 6-2 Stats
2007 Estoril
Portugal Clay F Djokovic, Novak
7-6(7), 0-6, 6-1 Stats
2006 ATP Masters Series Madrid
Spain Hard R32 Djokovic, Novak
7-6(2), 1-6, 6-1 Stats
That's their first 3 encounters. Pretty close. With twice Gasquet had teh possibility to win in 2 sets....before folding.
I think besides the fitness, Gasquet never seemed to bothered being a "great". While Djoko had not much to start with but certainly with much more willpower.

Interesting...I was just reading Nole's post match interview:
"First three games lasted over twenty minutes, I think I managed to break his resistance there, firstly physically - physically he is not prepared that well, he plays more using his talent, the skill of his shots.
Also, he wasn't fresh because of two long matches he had played.
After those three games, everything fell in its place, he withdrew and started making mistakes, I raised my level. I was firm from the base-line, and I didn't give bim a chance to anticipate my shots".
Consider this your early Christmas present, T.

Yes...exactly! Professional tennis players don't actually want to use their talent. It's about working hard and making sure their game is not reliant on something as unreliable as talent.noleisthebest wrote:"First three games lasted over twenty minutes, I think I managed to break his resistance there, firstly physically - physically he is not prepared that well, he plays more using his talent, the skill of his shots.

This is why Nadal, Murray and Djoko have been so consistent in slams.
..And then there is Federer...a one in a century genius!
