Let's look no further.....
Rublev is going to be the one. Amazing how such a thin, languy player can pull so many winners so young.
he is going to kill them all!

Re: Let's look no further.....
I wrote this post he was a break down....and pulled another 3 winners to break Verdy.
Verdy's shots look like soft in comparison.
He is going to be H&S above everybody else.

Brilliant!
I saw him play. Few weeks ago, amazing pace for such a tiny body, also naturally ultra-aggressive.
I mentioned on the other thread how a junior from our club played him a few years ago in Orange ball and lost to him in the third set TB.
He also described him as ridiculously aggressive (yaaaay!!!)
I didn't see the match today, but did you notice how he has this aura of confidence and belonging about him?

I asked our junior who he thought was the most promosing of his generation and he said he liked Zverev best...I was surprised as Zverev is just another good ball-keeper.

Yep...you mentioned that kid from your club.
Verdy tries to hit as hard but can't keep the ball in court.
Very impresssive this Rublev.....considering his moving is pretty average....if not poor by today's standards.

Clue: He had won as many Slams as French Open titles Djokovic currently holds.

He was junior #1 and won the French Open Junior title last year!
OK, it does not often translate to the (non junior) tour, but still, it means something...

I enjoyed watching him today, so different from most of last week's grinding.
I hope he is fit to play tomorrow, it would be such a shame if he isn't.
Only a match away from Nadal.

Well we have a bunch of new players coming who certainly have the capability of doing much better than the current pushers at the top.
It's obvious. Now the question is will they fulfill? My take is some of them have too much talent not to!

That's a piece of cursing and jinxing, knowing Kim.
Djko will find it very hard in the next few months. The opposition is chasing fast.

Beating Verdasco is not a big deal I would say. Verdasco can have some very on-off days. Rublev played with no pressure, it so much easier to do it when young and no one expects any hoots from you.
How many years did it take for Dimi who showed far more promise as a junior to even come into top-20? You think Rublev can do better. Having some good ball striking talent doesn't guarantee a win, winning is a different thing all together.
I hope you'll remember how many slams were predicted by many commentators/retired players when they saw Gasquet in 2004-06. Now we see the reality that I can't even remember him reaching a single Slam semis if at all he has. I would doubt anyone had predicted Nadal to win 14 slam and dominate clay like just no other ever even after his 2005 spoils. I'm certain no one even predicted a single slam for him if seen him in 2004.
Honestly did you predict that Nadal would win 9 RGs?
I'll see how Rublev does against Klizan, Goffin, Thiem, etc. They are his first test.
Its just too early to say anything..

Re: Let's look no further.....
It is not because he beat Verdy that I started that thread. As you could see, I started that tread when Rublev was a break down in that first set.
It's his shots that made me believe in him. he is pure talent.
I have never been in awe of Dimi. I thought he was talented, very talented even but I never saw the shots that made him outstanding .
Rublev has something really special....for 17. To pull so many consistent winners at 17 without being built like a gladiator is simply proof of outstanding skills. He still has to capitalise on his talent....and that is not easy..but he seems to have the raw talent to achieve a lot....easily.

The problem with Dimi is that despite being talented he is a SHBH...and therefore he is not talented enough "a la Federer" to make a difference in this lung busting era.

Re: Let's look no further.....
I could never see what the big deal was with Dimi...regardless of SBH, he has no proper weapons, his serve is average for his height (same as Delpo), no easy power...which is why he plays the way he does, a SBH version of Ferrer.
More aesthetically pleasing of course because of his BH and the variety that shot brings.

Rublev with his skinny body, thanks to his talent can generate more pace than Dimi ever will and that means a lot, esp in this era.
