I am not sure what happened there....fed playing ok...not great. Djoko maybe a step slower....or due to court faster....not sure.

I heard that on top of having a larger frame.....Roger's racquet is also longer....which helps him on his serve.....

Will check what's the difference.

How did Fed break Nole in the first set?
Struggling to return his serves in the 2nd, reminds me of Wimbledon.

Nole looked more comfortable on his serve throughout but had one bad game and that was enough for Fed to break.

Fed looks better than at Wimbledon to me.

But pretty close over-all, Nole did not look that much more comfortable than Roger.

Roger trying to mix it up and stay out of too many long rallies.  With reasonable success so far.

Yes he is better than Wimbledon, I was referring to returning only.

This match is on Fed's racquet, he is playing his own game which never was the case in Wimbledon.

There is noone as strong mentally as Federer....in the history of tennis.

It's absolutely amazing to pull so many controlled aggressive shots under the toughest circumstances.

Murray said it a couple/few year ago at Dubai- if hard courts on tour were still quick like Dubai (as they were in the past) "roger would still be #1 and would be for years to come"

Great win- certainly cements his continued relevance and ranking as the 2nd best in the world-  at a ripe old age :-) GOAT!

I am so glad Nole and Fed are 1&2, we've had some good finals between the two recently.
This court suits Fed better, as it should be.
I just wish there was more variety like that on bigger hard court tournaments.

Exactly..we realise on a tournament like that how much he was robbed in his career.....as when he arrived on tour most courts were quicker than Dubai. He's had had to re-invent his game and his fitness. .

Great win but the match was very close - closer than the scoreline suggests.  Nole had more chances but Roger made better use of his.

After those back-to-back holds from 15-40 I thought Nole was just about to break through, and then he out of the blue dropped the next game from 40-0 up.

The second set was certainly very close and Djoko certainly played better. If anything the mental side made the difference. I still think federer did not play his very best.

I only saw the second set, but I don't think it was close.
Between the two of them it's always a battle of FHs.

Fast court - and Fed takes time away from Nole.
Nole's serve and BH were good, but that is not enough, and should never be enough.

It shows you Feds level and ability to win is still GOAT-  it's the back and how it holds up under 6-7 matches of best of 5 that is the issue..   wins like this will keep him trying though- for sure.

Then you are wrong smiley

Nole had two set points and he had Roger 15-40 down at 3:4 and again at 4:5, while he himself was holding much more comfortably. Fed played some great points to save those BPs but he was walking the rope there.

The break came out of nowhere after Nole was 40-0 up.

It was certainly not a clear cut Federer set. Nole could have won that set very very easily.

Questions:

Is Coric at 18 better than Nadal at 18
Is Coric at 18 better than Murray at 18?
Is Federer better nowadays at handling with those kind of games than when he was at his so-called peak?

I know the answers to those.

Not that different as I think he can still play the game he was playing in 2007 but now he has better timing and consistency, better BH, more variety.

However he is more fragile physically.
