Australian Open 2015 Men's Final
Hard to believe, but AO is nearly over, the final is here!
NOVAK DJOKOVIC - ANDY MURRAY
Who is going to win it?
Navratilova and Wilander give a slight advantage to Murray:
Navratilova:
"Andy might be a slight favourite for me. I think Andy has slimmed down a little bit; he seems to be a bit leaner, he's moving really well, still has all the power, improved his second serve.
He has got to be encouraged by his performances so far in this tournament, and also by the fact that Djokovic wasn't at his best against Wawrinka.
He's got to like his chances. He's got a losing record against Novak but he has beaten him before."
(We know where the wind blows when it comes to Navratilova...)
Wilander
"Andy Murray, at this moment, is the favourite. But Djokovic has won four of these before and has beaten Murray twice in the final.
I've enjoyed watching him much more during this Australian Open than ever before.
I think now he's having fun. He wants to fight. He's a competitor and hopefully the end result is you're going to win as well. It just looks more harmonious."
I tend to agree with Rod Laver, though :
"For me, it's Djokovic to win - he's playing some good tennis. He was a little bit up and down in the semi-final, but both of them were.
My tell-tale sign will be if Murray's second serve drops off a little bit. Djokovic's return of serve is so much more powerful than the other players".
Yep, Rod, that's the one!

Amazing to see Nestor and Paes in final both 42 and 41 respectively. Just shows how reflexes can still be good at that age .

Martina Hingis (SUI) [7] 20
Leander Paes (IND) [7]
Men's Singles - Final
Andy Murray (GBR) 55 - joker - Djokovic is the favourite for me too, despite his poor showing vs. Wawrinka, but for game strategic reasons it makes no sense to take the safe route. No sets this time? I'll say five.

Good idea Al. 30 point extra if number of sets is correct too. 30 before joker.Autumnleaf wrote:Martina Hingis (SUI) [7] 20

Murray in 3 (joker) and Paes/Hingis
If SB does not log in...make it 4 sets for him ( I believe he opted for Murray too).

So...no-one's watching? I won't blame you! I can't get to support either player.
Djoko just saved 3 BPs. (0/40 down at 1 all).

I think it's going to be a 3 straight sets for Djoko. He is simply the better player.

Re: Australian Open 2015 Men's Final
Can Murray do the same and save 3 BPs? Typical after having failed to ....to be faced with teh same challenge.....but Murray simply can't. Today Djoko is by far the more aggressive. .

i think you're right, but you saw how easy Andy got to 0-40.. This was a very impressive break by Djoko thoughTenez wrote:I think it's going to be a 3 straight sets for Djoko. He is simply the better player.

Andy constantly has to fight against his instincts if he wants to win.
Whereas Djoko is totally in his comfort zone.

Djoko is beating Murray like he does with Nadal. Absorb as much and then attacks once he feels confident he can win retrieving.

To have a chance of beating Djoko one needs a very good serve. That woudl be the base for beating him. Murray hasn't.

yep....Murray has not got the attacking weapons to hurt Djoko. Like at Wimby 13 or USO12, he has to rely on Djoko playing badly.gallery play wrote:I meant: patiently waiting for the right moment to punch, if you do that, you're too late against DjokoTenez wrote:you mean his retrieving instincts?gallery play wrote:Andy constantly has to fight against his instincts if he wants to win.

euh game over?
Djoko had his moments of lost focus but Andy didn't take advantage, so that basically means Andy lost his chance to win this final. I expect Djoko to win in three now.
