Return of the 90s? (The Race Of Giants)
F. Lopez sums up nicely how modern strings have changed tennis and predicts the way it may go:
"You see the average of the players, is between 185 and 180 kph Everybody became stronger now in the game. Everybody serves huge. Everybody hits the ball with a lot of power. The racquets are so powerful right now. Some courts are fast. So this is the way that the game is going.
But on the other way there's other places where the courts are very slow and you can do many things. You can mix it up and you can play from the baseline as well.
You see Wimbledon, for example, all the players play from the baseline.
It is obvious if the game continues this way, it will be tough to see so many rallies at Wimbledon because everybody is so tall, powerful, everybody serves really big. I think some of the young guys, they are very strong, but there are some others that they play with talent as well.I think we have to wait a couple years more to make the final call.
So, has tennis evolution gone another full circle and is going back to the 90s?
Then, courts were slowed down.
Now they are so slow only giants can hit through it.
How is tennis going to be rescued from another wave of booming servers and not much else?
Does this mean racquet/strings manufacturers will have to put an end to "progress" in technology?
Either that, or courts size will have to be increased and I don't see that happen in a hurry....
Or is there just going to be a period of chaos and things will somehow magically sort themselves out?

Re: Return of the 90s? (The Race Of Giants)
Well we habve yet to see a giant serving his way to a slam...even at Wimbledon....so for me we have not gone full circle yet. Far from it.
It's still Djoko, Murray and Nadal in those 1/4Fs!
The picture you picked is very good and telling about today's sport. However they all were long shorts to hide those huge thighs.
