US open 2012: ATP Matches of the Day: Day 2
A little rain interruption, the Day1 at the US Open 2012 went smooth. Mayer is the highest men's seed to fall, Cilic very nearly beat him but dug deep to win in 5. Are we going to see some Drama today. In the early days I'll only select matches for the game which don't have obvious results. Make your picks intelligently ( ), the matches involving lower seeds are very difficult to predict but carry huge points at risk. This game is tough.

Looking at the draw, it's really easy for Djoko till the 1/4F

I'm so far behind just by the day1 results, I have to back up on upsets. So some risk is required to be taken . Though I like Berdych, I will gladly sacrifice him in this US open.

I was actually tempted too. It would not be such an upset for me anyway.

OK time for picks...rotla you know how to make things difficult, don't you
OK: Berdych, Querrey (will be very tough), Monaco, Almagro, heart says Mahut, so I'll go with the heart , Tomic.

Again, tough choices you give us there, good job rotla! I'll try my best and cross my fingers...
Here are my picks:
1. Berdych
2. Querrey
3. Monaco
4. Stepanek (I'll put my trust in the old guard, even though it seems not the best choice, he played well recently on HC and I'm hoping he can perform on the distance, plus only 11 points to lose )
5. Petzschner
6. Berlocq (hehe... Tomic winning? Certainly hope not!)

There is a Picking Game (PG) on MTL that you can take a look at. It has draws, rounds (points per round) and elimination. It also runs throughout the year and follows the ATP/WTA Calendar. It also has a cumulative ranking system (but it is not a 2-year ranking system ).

Ouah - He won the first set.
I woudl not be surprised if he'd win cause he has the shots to rush Berdych into mistakes.
However....I'd be surprised if he were to do it for 3 consecutive sets. Are you watching rotla? I m off to play myself.
EDIT: I thought Goffin had won the first set...just realised he lost it.

Berdy wins, Petzchner going down to Mahut , Stepanek won the first set but it's Almagro now. I picked Stepanek as Almugro is my second elast favourite behind Nadull, can't stand him (boring baseliner).
Tsonga sailing through, slightly pegged back by Beck. Polish guy will be in action later. Not a smooth sailing for Raonice, nearly lost there.

What a come back by Petzchner, wow
Raonic did well in the end. Easy ride for tsonga in the end. Querrey winning over Lu. Monaco thrashing Lopez (another one, huh). Almugro got lucky
I am looking good to get 5 right today. rotla again will be languishing at the bottom of the table

It was UEs, without any pressure from Petzsch, which continued in the next game unabated. Lack of execution, IMO.

Yes, but why THEN? Why is it so hard to serve out a match?

Dr Zhivago loses, Garcia gets one set back. Monaco is expected to win, he should win this one easily. Querrey bulldozes past yensunlu.

Yes, between Petzchner and Mahut, it's going to be very mental....but none will be in the business end of the tournamet cause physically they are not ready.

Humdinger between Monaco and Lopez. I thought that Monaco won this long time ago but that's not the case. Lopez failed to serve out for the match.

I can't believe Lorenzi did it again. What a disgrace he is in the main draw. The last time when he played Djokovic the score was 6 , 6- 6- and he could only hold serve only once in 3 sets.
He got to this remarkable achievement again, this time 6-1 6- 6-1 and again able to hold serve only once. . He should never be allowed to play in GS main draw.

Very disappointing play from Raonic. He is staying 4m behind the baseline and moonballing? What is he even thinking? And its not only this match, he kept on doing the same recently in ATP250 tournament as well. So it must be game plan and how horrible it is.
He needs a new coach, his current coach can't take him any further up. If he plays this way, I won't count he will go beyond R2.

Raonic's coach, Galo Blanco, took hime to Spain to train on clay. Now he returns with a clay game and attrition tennis.

Damn Tomic! Now I dislike the guy even more! I did not mind losing Stepanek as it was a risky value bet (if you see what I mean), or Monaco - even though I hesitated a lot before choosing him as the winner, really I should have switched between him and Almagro (I really hesitated between them as somehow I felt one of them would fall today but thought Stepanek had more chance of upsetting than G G-L). Also everybody got Monaco wrong, so I was fine with that. But Tomic! All the blame is on him! And his tennis is so ugly! Anyways, still in second place despite a day with a negative total!! Tenez, me voila!

Agree...he is turning into an Ancic. THose guys are big and have huge power but they are not quick enough to pull the gun first. Just serve and moonballing. IT is a suicidal approach with such big frames.
