The Golden Threshold

Has now been crossed! The moment was anticipate long ago but the burden of carrying the hope of an entire nation and erasing a deficit of more than 70 years created the enormous pressure.

The best British tennis produced for ages and the only player who could realistically go and enulate Sir Fred Perry has travelled a really tough road to get to his first slam. He had to endure the agony of losing four slam finals. It is like the driving test as if you fail your first one then pressure increases on the second and on third and so on.

Winning those slam finals was never easy as beating Fed in a final, not a lot of players have achieved that. Then there was the pressure of creating the history, Nadal did it quite early and Spanish players have alsways won the FO which eased the pressure on Nadal. Djokovic never faced that burden and got the easiest final in his first which eased the pressure as well.

Talent wise Murray had always been there, he was always expected to achieve higher heights but got thwarted again and again either by Nadal in semis or his own complacency. Some people were critical of Murray's emotional response after losing those finals, well they do not understand as it is quite painful to not to succeed when so much hard work planning is put in place to achieve certain goals. " I am closer than before", were the words after the Wimby 2012 loss. It was hard to take but that was Federer's moment, Andy had to wait for one more slam to be played.

Andy lost 4 finals similar to his coach Lendl, Lendl went on to win 8 slams. It might be still possible for Andy to do that. Lendl is considered to be one the greats, I hope that Andy will be able to emulate his success as the barrier now has been crossed, the burden is there no more.



At times it was hard to watch but even Fed give you those moments when he starts to spray everything. Andy has a long road ahead but the travel will become easier from here onwards.
