I suppose tickets will be cheaper if he doesn't qualify.
Murray will drop to #10 after this loss, Ferrer 9. I'm not sure Raonic will make it to top-8. So it will be between Ferrer and Murray for the last spot.

I know I go on about it over and over, but I really don't see why they don't get rid of DBH!
So much more flair and variety...not to mention lack of need for superhuman fitness and all that comes with it.
It would then be unfair to many players. There should not be a rule for how does one hold his/her racquet. Flair and variety have subjective definitions. And that is not even a mandatory ingredient for winning in sports.
DHBH have their advantages and it has become quiet a big advantage with modern racquets and strings. But then I rather leave this to the player to decide which way they would hold they BH.
Some players like Bartoli are double handed off both wings, what will you suggest for them?
It will make things more complicated. If Double handededness have an advantage, then the SHBH needs to learn new tricks to tackle it.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: SHANGHAI
I see no advantage in a DBH other than to cover lack of skill, although there are some very talented DBH-ers: Fognini, Dolgo, Paire, Nishikori.
To me, it's like a different sport, watching Nole play Murray gives you the extreme scenario of how DBH kills tennis.
DBH strongly discourages attacking and volleying.
Bartoli, Seles, loved their grit and heart, but tennis was ugly.

Actually I have liked the double handed BH of Nalbandian more than anyone, clean shots, very clean.. but yes the one above you mentioned are the best among the current lot.

Back in time to see the third set.
Looks like Kuku must be doing stg right?
My guess is he is playing and moving a touch quicker than Nole.

i couldnt stop laughing this morning when all the sports commentators were questioning how nadal could play through while having "appendicitis"
they all agreed that its a life threatening condition,so how is it possible

Well....there is Nadal and there is the rest of us.
I'm starting to believe he could grow a third set of teeth no problem if he needed to.

Finally got a bit of time to see some tennis!
Shanghai is slower than Beijing, not even Fed can make it look fast, but at least he is placing the ball at will and making Gutty run.

Very happy for Feli's win over Isner.
I watched yesterday's highlights vs Nadal and he played really well.
Will be almost nostalgic to watch him play Youzhny tomorrow.

Yes, quite a nice FH.
Saw him first at Wimbers 2013 against Ferrer on C1, he lost in a very close 4 setter.
I remember thinking: just my luck...2 Spaniards on grass and one I hadn't even heard of...but it turned out to be a very good match.
I remember being quite disappointed with Ferrer's ball-striking, the only player that looked worse live than on TV.

As for Fed, I didn't see as much as I was hoping to, but his groundstrokes were excellent.
Full on, shot after shot, all landing in corners...how he does it I'll never know...
I reckon if his back holds, he is going to play his best tennis in 2015.

Yes, it would be an interesting one should they meet.
Nole had trouble controlling the ball today. From the few points I saw, his serve bailed him out.
But then again, it's all a different story when he has to play his biggest rivals. Look forward to it.

I didn't realise Cilic has already qualified to the WTF by the mere fact he won a slam (despite the fact he may not even end up in the top 10 after Paris masters).raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:Murray will drop to #10 after this loss, Ferrer 9. Murray is not happy about it, and I agree with him on this one:
" If the ATP want their tournaments to be the most important tournaments, which I think they do – it’s the ATP World Tour Finals – you would hope that the players who would get in would be those who accumulate the most points across the whole year on the ATP tour.
But by putting the Grand Slam champions in then they would be saying the Grand Slams are the most important events.
I’m not saying that’s wrong. I’ve put a lot of my time and effort and training into getting prepared for the Grand Slams and playing the best-of-five-set matches. They mean a lot to all the players. If Marin was to get in placed ninth, he would deserve to be there. Winning the US Open is a great achievement.
But if you want to protect your own tour, then you need to make sure that the tournaments that we are playing throughout the whole year are seen as being just as important as the other ones."

Its Top-7 + 1 GS winner who doesn't make it to top-8 but within top-20. Cilic is not a given unless Wawrinka also falls out of top-8.
And I'm presently okay with this rule.

Berd seems to be enjoying bagels these days....
I don't know what happened in the third set, I saw a few games of the 2nd and it was quite even.
Simon is a tough cookie to play and that's why I like watching him: unlike Murray, he is very elegant and patient and doesn't scramble, his tennis is not about asphyxiting but outfoxing.
Very happy he's through

Feli-Dr Misha next.
I usually prefer dr Misha as he is a cracking character, but Feli has been playing some beautiful tennis, so happy for either to win, should be a very nice match to watch.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: SHANGHAI
No idea.
Clement is going to have a tough task picking the right player.
It will be indoor clay, so I'd choose Monfils as a number one player and then no idea for the 2nd.
However, he is recovering from an injury.
Gasquet..lovely player but not sure he could beat Stan, let alone Fed.
Though, Stan could easily crack under pressure, so you never know.
Simon I can see beat Stan, he is the best competitor on the French team.
Great that Benne is doing well atm, as well, as he'll probably be playing doubles.
Not sure what to do with Tsonga...hasn't done much since Toronto. And the big problem for him he has no idea how to play if the first serve stops.
He is a very risky choice.

Lust for life...you cannot buy it
Funny, because I was thinking about tennis madness this morning.
The state of mind of someone that competes at the top professional level.
How it forces you to constrain yourself, transform yourself.
Does it also kill parts of yourself?
It must do.
And then when you stop playing the mind suddenly looks like a winter tree, all leaves blown away.
Then what?

I don't know why, but I just enjoy seeing Murray lose. Its fun to see him curse and yell at himself. Its entertaining... I just want that someday he pulls out a bunch of hair from his head.. . Will be a real funny sight.
There was certainly a physical issue with him...again.
That's the problem nowadays, tennis is so much based on fitness that someone who was winning the first set 62/ can suddenly be inflicted a similar score if not able to maintain that physical intensity.
But not me
I'm happy Ferrer won, because Murray is basically a Michelin man version of Ferrer. Ferrer is playing the way he is because that's the best he can do, Murray - simply no guts at all.
There is not much between Murray and Ferrer but I think Murray is more of a threat to the others than Ferrer in London. This is why I really want to have Murray instead of Ferrer. But above all I want Berdych out. He is so useless.

And Feli does it!
He managed to choke serving for the match, but got there in the end...looked spent, still I'm sure he'll play a good match against Simon tomorrow.
I think it's the first masters 1000 for both, glad it's the two of them that made the most of Nadal's easy draw.

More on paper, he's never played well in O2.
If I could wave a magic wand I'd have Gulbis and Monfils there instead.
With healthy Nishi around, that would be one superb WTF.

Oh, I don't know what I loved more: Nole's fire exploding in a roar or Boris standing up in the box, eyes bulging out with the same emotion, wanting to run out on the court and let rip.
Brilliant hold and the first set to Nole.
He could have made his life soooo much easier though had he not gone for the flashy DTL overhead missed by an inch on the break point for 3:0...

Fed wanted to challenge a serve, said something, the umpire didn't notice and didn't allow the challenge because it was too late. Fed is truly unlucky with the umpires in Shanghai.
In the match vs. Bautista-Agut there was this wonderful rally that he finished on a winner after a ball from Bautista-Agut had been called out. Bautista-Agut challenged and it was in, point was replayed, even though I don't think Bautista-Agut would have got to what looked like a clean winner.
Great tournament so far with Nadal out in R2 (thank you Feliciano! ) and so many other surprises.
Also loved the Djokovic-Kukushkin match. So many highlight shots from Kukushkin in that one, simply amazing how he hit his spots and put Djokovic under pressure.

Fed said to the umpire "what did you think I said to you? Ask you to lunch?" lol.... The umpire admitted he heard Fed say something, but didn't know it was to challenge. Anybody with common sense would then say since he heard Fed say something to him and clearly it would be to challenge- to then allow it.
Amri and Hawkeye and the bunch are having hissy fits over on the other forum over Nadals continuing failures and Fed continuing to be a force.. It's hysterical how sensitive they are at this point. They demanded that there be a separate thread sticky for talk about Federer's achievements or GOAT talk... where the only people who are bothering to debate is themselves. Now on any other thread, if you mention Federer acheiveing something- Hawkeye is foaming at the mouth that he should be able to counter with why Nadal is better on that thread and that any positive mention of Federer should only be on the Goat thread.. The insanity of Nadal fanatics knows no bounds.

Your post prompted me to have a quick look at v2. I had not been glancing there for months, if not years. It;s still entertaining to read at times. But I feel I have grown out of it so much. I woudl not have time to post there much on all those trivial threads.
I feel OTF is very quiet in comparison, less fun even...but better for me as I don't waste time with some of the posters who clearly are not prepared to change views.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: SHANGHAI
Fed vs Nole. Fed has to win if he wants to keep a chance to finish the year at #1.
Theoretically he could do it even with a loss, but in reality that would never happen, not unless Nole skips WTF or something of that sort. Even if Fed were to win tomorrow, it would still be a long shot, but not totally out of the question.
