ATP Masters 1000: SHANGHAI
Only 4 weeks left in the official ATP calendar!
Djokovic, Nadal, Federer and Wawrinka have qualified for the WTF, leaving 4 remaining spots to be fought over in the next few weeks.
On top of that, we have the race for year end number one: Djokovic, Nadal and Federer all have a realistic chance.
Djokovic has most points to defend as he basically won everything at this stage last year.
The draw is out, and as usual, Nadal has the easiest one by far.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: SHANGHAI
Lets hope the courts play fast as Nadal does have some big hitters in his quarter.
The other half is much more interesting with Fed, Djoko, Murray, Nishi, Dimitrov,etc- I think we might see someone other than Fed and DJoko come out of that half..

Re: ATP Masters 1000: SHANGHAI
I forgot how Shanghai played last year, but don't remember it being fast.
Was it last year Federer lost to Murray there and made 4 DFs in one game?
I do remember Nole beating Murray after that after looking like he lost it, was a good match.
Seeing how easy Nadal's draws are tournament after tournament makes me want to scream. It is nothing short of disgusting.
I hope he gets another beating in early rounds.
Nole will play this tournament full on going for the win.

Let's not worry yet, Isner will most likely take Nadal out.
Thiem-Nole could be interesting if Thiem is at his best... (Nole should still win)

Actually my hope lies in Kokkinkis!
He is "the other" Aussie, whose name goes along Kyrgios's.
I haven't seen him play, but apparently similar or better than Kyrgu, and that's enough for a hope! (provided he gets past F. Lopez first)
As for Thiem...that's what you call tough draw as Nole seems to be very determined to keep his number one this year.
Hopefully he can avoid double bagel

Depressing to see Gulbis and Fognini lose to Youzhny and Wang (ranked 537!!!). They are similar in so many ways.
The "other" young Aussie lost to F.Lopez in three sets, first set TB 14:12, will keep an eye on him.

Murray-Gabashvilj starting, could be interesting, but only score-wise.
Tomorrow's order of play should be more promising.

I don't know why is Gulbis even playing. He just retired last week and still not in full shape to play. Why is even playing to worsen the injury.

Isner taking out Nadal? I don't know... ISner is mainly TB-man and in a TB the guy with better return often prevails than the better server. So nadal will likely win that one.

Yes, already has an excuse up his sleeve (must be all that poker playing ) ready for the loss. And what's worse, his fans believe every word he says!
Imagine if he had Nole's draw...he'd probably be giving birth instead of Nole's wife.

Some feisty tennis going on between Nole & Thiem.
As always, excellent, uncompromising attacking from Thiem, but Nole playing really, really well, no cigar for Thiem here today.
He is looking to be the new Stan, more aggressive and better moving version, though.

Too aggressive and making wrong shot selection. Against Djkovic, one needs to be patient and build points. Quite often Thiem was hurrying and playing all-or-nothing shots making unforced errors. His shot selection needs to be better. Still a good performance and well played but he can definitely play better.
One of the young players I really like watching.

So much work from organizers to provide Nadal the best draw ever and he quits Shanghai.
Before Nadal got thrashed, Raonic retired his match.
From this second half of the draw can emerge somebody who is able to withstand on the
court for at least a couple of hours.

Interestingly enough, with Nadal out, Federer only needs one match win here and he'll be No. 2 in the official rankings.

Haven't seen Nadal's match, but pleased with the score
As for Fed, it seems he needed a set to shake the rust off. Lovely to see him back.

I'm sure he won't miss the opportunity. Such a shame he is in Nole's half here, but not for much longer - should be safe in that spot for a while, at least until Wimbledon

One set all.
That wrong line call on Mayer's serve at 4:3, 15:00 (which should've been 00:15) may have made the difference.
Mayer's shovelling FH is so ugly.

Yes, his ball-striking is very good, but the feet need a bit of fine-tuning.

Bottom half looks shocking...
Really didn't see Lopez taking out Nadal today, esp as he played a tight 3 setter yesterday, a Spanish single-handed amigo on a plate like that and still nothing!
ATP are running out of options...

Federer's fight will never be fully appreciated because of the usual beauty of his game. #2 in the world now :-) Not bad for a guy most were ready to put out to pasture last year.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: SHANGHAI
Just rusty. Slow on his feet. Two bad FH shanks from the mid court. Mayer went for his shots and landed a lot of them in. Mainly the BH hammering scenario.
Also, Fed's returning wasn't that good, quite passive.
On the upside, when he had the patches of flow, the FH looked devastating, he still hasn't made the most of that bigger frame, I think.
BH was good.
Not a bad match overall, Agut should be easier tomorrow.

"Wasn't quite happy with the way I was playing at times," admitted Federer, who was making his first main draw appearance since the US Open. "I was trying to go for an all-time record of missed volleys tonight... The eyes weren't following balls perfectly, I wasn't reading the plays maybe as easily as I was before my vacation.
"But every match I get, every minute I spend more on the court is going to be helpful. I'm happy I get another chance today."

Humid it was indeed, but not cool - on the contrary, it was a steam room: he changed his shirt TWICE!
I've never seem him sweat so much.

Yes it happens in tennis. There is no draw and one has to lose. It was very well match by Mayer, considering he was playing Fed for the 1st time.

I don't know why, but I just enjoy seeing Murray lose. Its fun to see him curse and yell at himself. Its entertaining... I just want that someday he pulls out a bunch of hair from his head.. . Will be a real funny sight.

There was certainly a physical issue with him...again.
That's the problem nowadays, tennis is so much based on fitness that someone who was winning the first set 62/ can suddenly be inflicted a similar score if not able to maintain that physical intensity.

But not me
I'm happy Ferrer won, because Murray is basically a Michelin man version of Ferrer. Ferrer is playing the way he is because that's the best he can do, Murray - simply no guts at all.

Watching Youzhny play nice all-court tennis and all other SBH-ers this week (did you notice that there quite a few of them: Federer, Stan, Mayer, Dimi, Youzhny, Thiem, Robredo, Lopez, Ivo...), there really is no other way to play tennis properly, is there?
I know I go on about it over and over, but I really don't see why they don't get rid of DBH!
So much more flair and variety...not to mention lack of need for superhuman fitness and all that comes with it.
