Nishi will need to be fit to beat L.Mayer.
A.Kuznetsov is a complete mystery, though, I know he had a decent tournament recently beating some good players but have never seen him play, could be a good match.

Panetta-Gibbs on Ashe...I don't know who's worse - USO or AO when it comes to wasting prime match slots & ramming local Z-grade players down people's throats

And she does it!!!
Tiny compared to Kvitova, but so much heart, really happy for her, esp as she had to play qualifications as well.

Nole-Querrey looking like a hitting session Nole doesn't even need: his groundstrokes are already sharp and have excellent length.

Very windy in NY.
As if order of play wasn't uninspiring enough.
What a boring week one!
If it wasn't for Federer's two matches, this would have been worse than Winston-Salem...
Querrey was terrible - plain lazy today. All nice players: Gulbis, Tsonga, Monfils, Gasquet, Simon, Fognini have been playing on some carpark courts, leaving show courts for the likes of Gibbs, Sloane, Keys, Riske...just shocking!
I don't think James Ward, Boggo or Evans ever set foot on Centre Court.
Hopefully things will improve from tomorrow.

Kuznetsov looks like Murray before he put on his muscle costume and the score reflects that difference.

You keep whining about the line-up and I keep thinking there is really only one top player missing. Maybe you are a closet fan?noleisthebest wrote:If it wasn't for Federer's two matches, this would have been worse than Winston-Salem...
...and that makes me even happier about my decision to not get Ashe ticketsnoleisthebest wrote:All nice players: Gulbis, Tsonga, Monfils, Gasquet, Simon, Fognini have been playing on some carpark courts, leaving show courts for the likes of Gibbs, Sloane, Keys, Riske...just shocking!
Ashe sessions can be quite underwhelming during the first weekend. They cram it with US players and with top foreign stars who then destroy their opponents.
I was surprised - but happy - that Isner was not on Ashe. I got to see Isner vs Kohli live - it was quite watchable.

Armstrong line-up was quite superior to Ashe day session.

Looks like Kurgy-Robredo was a good match, too tired to watch it.
Would be great to see Monfils-Kyrguos one day!

He, he...not closet but open fan of Nadal losing, esp in Wimbledon.
Thank you Sir Rosol, Knight Darcis and Mate Kyrgyos!
How was your time in USO?
Did you see anything interesting outside Armstrong? Do they have any tradition like Pimms & strawberries at Wimbledon?
What is the most unique thing for fans there compared to other slams?

Just had a look at live ATP rankings, if Murray loses and Nishi wins next match, Murray drops out of top 10.

Re: US Open 2014: MOTD Day 6 Sat 30/08/2014
Lots of boring matches on day 6 with the possible exception of Kyrgios - Robredo, which started somewhen during the night and possibly not even shown by Eurosport. In the reruns today they chose to instead broadcast yet again the Querrey-Djokovic match, don't know why, since it was on at a reasonable time in the first place.
So another w/o for Wawrinka in R3 after AO and MC. It seems to inspire him, watch out everybody.

Yes, A day without Federer is a boring day.....that's the sad reality as of now.
Knew Robredo would grind the youngster down.

Re: US Open 2014: MOTD Day 6 Sat 30/08/2014
It was fun though I felt last year was a bit better as there were more close and entertaining matches than this time around.noleisthebest wrote:How was your time in USO?

Not sure about traditions. This is America, so it is more about show biz than about traditions but if one goes there ready for all that comes with that, it is very much fun. A lot of loud music and festive atmosphere everywhere.
As far as players and matches go, even though I did not get to see Nole play, I did see him on practice courts in the morning before the play opened (I made sure to reach the USO grounds bright and early).
I then headed to Court 17 which I really like. It is a small show court and for the men's third round days, they usually put one men's match there. They put a lower profile match which, in the third round, may mean something like two 15-30 seeds playing each other and which can be more interesting than Nole vs Querrey. Yesterday they had Nishikori vs Mayer and I stayed for the first two sets. The match was more one sided than I expected. I then moved to Armstrong to get there before it got too crowded so I could get a half decent seat for Andy's match.
Andy did not look all that good, but Kuznetsov was very inconsistent, so I suppose Andy just did what he needed to do.
Isner vs Kohlschreiber was then my main match of the day. I like Kohli and while I do not care much for Isner, I do find myself surprised every time I see him that his game does not look as boring as I expect it to be for a big server. That said, his serve is his bread and butter - once they engaged in rallies, Kohli had no trouble winning most of them. Even so, for a while I thought Isner would win - he had far more chances on Kohli's serve in the first three sets than vice versa, but Kohli played an excellent 1st set tie break. By the end of the 3rd set, Isner started to look tired so by the time they started the fourth I knew he would likely come up short.
Sadly, Stan's match got canceled, so I was done much earlier than I expected. They were still finishing up a couple of doubles matches on outer courts, so I watched the tail end of Mirza/Soares beating Dellacqua/Murray - they must have needed about 10 MPs across multiple games to finally close it out. I was surprised to find out they play no-ad scoring in doubles - I was not aware.

While you were there....you could have advise them to invest in a waterproof court cover. Frankly this drying of the courts is absurd!..when it could be done in a very simple way like Wimbledon.
