Especially after being totally in control.

Certainly is depressing, despite having the best form of all topplayers, he'll be no contender for the USO title. Physically he's too fragile.
Anyway, he still can win today

Don't write Fed off, he still can win even USO

Fed now needs to win the USO and the race is on for the YE #1.  Sounds simple Winking

He looks as happy as his first wimbeldon....good to see.

Well Ferrer will have to wait another day before beating Federer.

Well mixed feeling though. He can win 3 setters....but 5 setters......He looked a long way today...though those 10 matches in 13 days are certainly pretty tough.....but at the USO...it's 7 x 5 setters in often 11 days (with this stupid Weds start!).

Yep....the way he managed to use Sving to serve energy....quite impressive. He had tough volleys to handle.

Assuming he'll have to play against Djoko at some point, i don't think he'll make it. And i even think Rafa will be fresh as a daizy in NY

But at least they no longer do Sat/Sun SF/F.

It will not be easy, but there is a chance.  I really think Fed was only trying this hard in Cincy because he is seeing an opening for #1 spot.  I just hope he did not tire himself too much here.

Rafa would have to lose to someone else; I do not see Rog beating Rafa.  I think he can beat Nole though if starts align.

I think Fed can beat Nadal, but it's less likely purely because of the match-up that's been a bitch from Day 1.

Fed does not have long left to challenge for Slams, and this is the best thing that could have happened going into the US Open.  Very well done for an old man!

Cowan on Sky admits he has been wrong all along about Federer having declined and says now he is playing as well as ever.

And 0-3 in Slams, and massive failures since 2010 say otherwise.  And so does the entire history of modern tennis (I ask again, how many 33 year olds have won a Slam?).  We've been through all this!

Federer winning a Masters or 1 Slam in his 30s only proves he is the greatest.  It does not prove he is playing his greatest.

I think it will be all down to how Djoko and Nadal do against the rest of the field. I still fancy to cut through the field quicker than Djoko or Nadal. Federer now can volley and shorten the rally so if the courts are as fast as Toronto cincy (which is certainly not guaranteed), then I really fancy Fed.

Does Fed suggest Rafa is not sure to play the USO?

Andy, Novak, and Rafa are sort of not currently that stage.  Do you have any thoughts on do you miss them?  Do you think about it at all?  Or you just doing your thing?
ROGER FEDERER:  Well, clearly I think we're all interested to see what the decision is going to be about Rafa for the Open.  I think that would be a bit of a letdown for the Open, for the tournament.  The tournament is big in itself.  It can cope with those kind of things, but clearly be more exciting having him around.

Well, is that not Rafa's official position - that the decision is yet to be made?  I think Fed is just going with that.

I'm sick of all this crap before a slam.  "Will he" "Won't he"  then he comes back and he's as good as ever.

I hope he never returns.  Next smiley

GOAT!

I have a feeling early in the 2nd set, Fed got nauseous or something. He has a strange "I'm going to be sick look when he went to the towel for a couple of games and I think the 1st time he was taking to umpire was maybe about bringing out trainer. Someone there that posted on his website said Mirka was motioning to him to "drink" during a changeover. Could explain the sudden rushing and sloppiness- then it seemed to subside and he went back to normal play while comservong energy for third. Maybe the exhaustion caught up to him.

Anyway- great win- Let's face it- he's done it all- but this year and especially last 4 tournies have been realy impressive results at this point.

Now some rest and please a good us open draw!

I did not know. If that's the case Nadal will do a "Wimbledon". Show up and lose.
