I am surprised how Djoko can hot those winners at ease v Nadal cause they don't look very fast winners. More like placement....and usually Nadal is good at retrieving those shots....there he looks almost wrong footed by a not very pacy shot.

Nadal hides no intentions sbout how he plans to play this match. Uber slog from the first point on his serve. He is "fit" alright...

He isn't nervous, just feeling annoyed with himself after that first silly point he threw away.
That has just cost him the entire game. I think he is fine.

Well, he's got himself in the right bit of mess 00:40.
Maybe he is not fine, after all.

Just the way he looked at his box...we'll see...def not the ideal start Sad

The wind picking up, as well.

Maybe the wrist is not fine, who knows.  But to me it looks more like a plain case of nerves - bad shot selection etc.  On the points that he plays his usual game, he seems to be hitting the ball just fine, finding openings and hitting easy winners.

But he looks so calm...resigned that his shots are not what they coudl be but still calm enough aand not panicking despite being 2 breaks down....well one now. If anything he is showing he does not fear Nadal at all. Just concentrating on his game.

I am not saying he fears Nadal; maybe he is just over-eager, but he was not playing to his usual tested and true patterns on many of the points he lost - it was like he could not decide when to pull the trigger and ended up spraying it with little purpose.

That was pretty good from Rafa at 15-15.

Unfortunately, we were right in guessing that this match would be more difficult for Nole than Miami.

Did you see this FH winner from Djoko at 15/0 first game second set? There was nothing it!. That's the kind of FH Nadal hits winners from when not playing Djoko.

The difference is that Nadal is lost on the court when facing Djoko he is almost wrong footed everysingle time.

Don't cheer too soon, T. Rafa only has to worry about who's the fittest at the end of the final set. His life is simple.

With Nadal's current level of fitness it's about impossible to maintain a momemtum against him for long on clay

Going back to my nerves theory.  My guess is that RG is on Nole's mind already - he is playing far better when he is down.

From what I am seeing I also think this match today matters for Nole more than for Rafa.

Nadal has no clue where th eball is going whereas he reads the pattern of the other players much better.
