ATP 250: Montpellier, Zagreb, Chile
We are now entering what feels like a limbo period in the ATP calendar.
With the first slam of the year over and done with and the European clay prep RG season a good 3 months away, it's a mish-mash of tournaments strewn all over the globe on all kinds of surfaces.
This week they are:
ATP 250 Montpellier, Indoor Hard
Montpellier, one of the fastest-growing cities in France over the past 25 years, hosted its first ATP World Tour 250 tennis tournament in late October of 2010. The indoor hard court event, which had relocated from Lyon, was then played in 2012 in a multi-purpose venue called the ARENA, which has a total capacity of 14,000 and seating for 7,500 during the tournament.
Players
Gasquet, Simon, JJ, Monfils, Benneteau, Mahut, Mannarino, Brown, Istomin (surprised not to see Paire, hope he is not injured)

ATP 250 Zagreb, Indoor Hard
The PBZ Zagreb Indoors is the first European stop on the ATP World Tour calendar. Croatians have enjoyed success in their capital city, beginning with Ivan Ljubicic's triumph at the inaugural event in 2006. He went on to runner-up efforts the following two years. Marin Cilic maintained Croatia's final streak as he won back-to-back titles in 2009-10, while Ivan Dodig lifted his first title in 2011. Russia's Mikhail Youzhny ended the Croatian run when he defeated Slovakia's Lukas Lacko in the 2012 final.
Players
Haas, Youzhny, Kohlschreiber, Cilic, F. Lopez, Karlovic, Strakhovski, Sijsling, Lajovic, Stepanek

ATP 250 Chile, Outdoor Clay
This is the tournament where Nadal came back from injury last year and lost to Zeballos.
The Royal Guard Open Chile returned to Viña del Mar in 2012, after a brief stint in Santiago. It is the first clay-court tournament of the ATP World Tour season and also the opening leg of the four-tournament swing through Latin America, aptly coined the "Golden Swing" in honour of top Chileans and Olympic Gold medalists Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu. Gonzalez is a four-time champion. Eleven-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal made his debut in 2013 as he returned from a seven-month injury lay-off.
Players
Almagro, Fognini, Dolgopolov, Robredo, Chardy, Granollers, Zebalos

That's a lovely photo Nitb, where do you find these?
Not the first time you have a really nice photo on a tournament thread.

Yes, best of 3, apparently he lost only 3 points on his serve in the entire match 6:7 7:5 7:6.
It must be awful to lose a match like that...

And Gasquet wins in straights, another TB.
Brilliant tennis and some crazy BHs, was quite heart-stopping to watch him paint he lines with it and create some mad angles on the fast indoor court.
An all French final against Monfils tomorrow.

Re: ATP 250: Montpellier, Zagreb, Chile
I was surprised to see Monf beat Gasquet with relative ease...6:4 6:4.
I saw a few games of him playing Istomin yesterday, didn't really like the tennis he played, a strange mix of acrobatic counter-punching...
He really has no excuse with that serve, just don't get why he plays like that.
