Re: Wimbledon 2012 Draw

I don't believe in weak eras, its all about matches ups in tennis, but I do think he was way ahead of the pack and the reason for that is that he matched up really well with his biggest rivals, except Nadal of course
You find this in most sports, some freak genius comes along and dominates until the rest of the pack catches up..and then the cycle starts all over again, that doesnt equate to a weak era
The interesting thing is if you look at a lot of players from Rogers era, many of them aren't making it past the 1st round of majors let alone first week
But Roger at a similar age with even more tennis in his legs still makes it deep into majors and wins tournament against the younger generation
This to me proves that if he can still dominate the game and can regain the no2 ranking going on 31,that hypothetically if he was 5 years younger he could still have been as dominant right now against the current field as he was back then,
If his wins Wimbledon and becomes no1 again,I hope that will be the final nail in the coffin for this debate, but I doubt that...

I think that is a very interesting question and the answer is not black or white in my opinion. Fed was clearly head and shoulders above everyone in his generation, and may have simply beaten them into submission, making them all his bunnies (Roddick Davydenko, Blake, Ferrero, Youzhny, Gonzo & the rest); if instead of Federer thay had a Nadal, there may have been a more even spread of slams among them.

It is an interesting question but theres not much we can do apart from speculate, the chances of the slams being more evenly spread is equal to the possibility of Roger dominating the game exactly the same way
We will never know for sure cause "ifs" doesnt = fact, theres just too many variables

I know...the only good thing about those one-sided years of dominance were that he looked good while he was obliterating the competition...

He's been improving with every match

He played well but Delpo never felt at ease on grass. And he did his knee again in the second set which did not help. Very few powerful shots from Delpo bizarely. Murray v Ferrer shoudl be hot!

I'd say 60/40 Murray cause Murray has the firepower Ferrer hasn't. And the crowd will certainly move things in Murray's favour. I am even tempted to say 70/30 Murray.

I was also tempted for 60/40 but it's that convincing win over Delpo that gives me the confidence for 50/50

Yaaaay, Roger's thru!! But he looked rather pale and tired.

I never thought Mayer would be a tougher opponent than Youzny.

Amazing how Mayer messed up 3BPs to serve for the first set!

It was downhill from there.

I agree Roger looked tired and sweaty...for once!

"down hill"

That's my hypothesis about 2nd tiered player in one of my last posts here. They typically play out of their life in the 1st set but when they miss the opportunity there, there's almost always no return, like Mayer today.

Rosol is an exception. He was fueled by something extra -his anger against nadal for bumping him. He turned that into something productive.

A different opponent, a different game. Ferrer is beginning to look just a little less steady today. OOPs, spoke too soon, He steadied. Just broke Murray.

I used to like Ferru, but not anymore, mainly bc I believe more and more he's using unnatural stuff since a while ago. Sad Sad Esp. his W matches, it just doesn't seem humanly possible for a player his age who plays A LOT of matches throughout the year in such a physically demanding grinding style to still remain so consistent and sharp.

Go Murray, vanquish he who cheats! :x

Ferrer is consistent because of the safe tennis he plays teamed up with his fitness.

If you think he is suspect I can tell you the other top 4 are even more (bar Federer probably as he runs much less than the others. As I said Ferrer is a short player and though he is muscly it is more visible because of his short size. What we see today is guys like Murray being much taller and bigger able to run as much as Ferrer and that is really dubious. Never you would have seen a tall player outlast a shorter player in the past, by outrunning him.

Well done Murray.

Must say that I've a lot of respect for Ferru's on-court conduct. He's just the opposite of nadal. All business and no drama. Looks a a very normal human being.

Murray-Tsonga should be a good semi. But I think whoever wins their slug-fest type of match will be more tired than the victor of other semi bet fed and djoko.

I don't feel good about fed chances vs djoko, although I'm very happy that he's done better this year than the last two, plus, he's replaced rafa as #2.

What do you think?

I certainly don't think Fed has much of a chance in that kind of form...which is a shame really as he despite that form he was really moving Djoko around at the FO.

Djoko can keep the ball in court which clearly Malisse and Youzhny could not...so unless his back gets completely ok, I don't think he 'll grab even a set. The final might be different. Be it v Murray....but more so v Tsonga!

I don't know how I'm going to survive the murray mania if he makes the final...the commentators have already made me puke several times and I sense its only going to get worse

So Nadal is claiming he's knees have been injured through RG and Wimbledon,he's been playing through a lot of pain and now he needs more injections...I don't know whether to laugh our laugh

I don't think he is playing good enough to beat Djokovic either but maybe Friday,he'll pull hat trick
Thing is this is their first meeting on grass,so Fed has a mental advantage in the sense that its not the hard courts and knowing Nadal won't be waiting for him in the final should really motivate him

If Fed doesnt get passed Djokovic,Novak has the title in the bag cause Murray will choke and Tsonga will be overwhelmed by the occasion
We will see what happens come Friday but I don't think Djokovic will win in straight sets, most likely in 4 and if it goes the distance you'd have to favour Novak

You may have read the following already, a interview from 12/2012:

Q. In London just six days ago, you told us that you were tired, very tired. So how do you explain that you can run around like that for nearly five hours and give a great performance like that?

DAVID FERRER: Well, I don't know exactly, you know. This season, it was very long, but, you know, the Davis Cup is very special for me and for the Spanish players. I like a lot to play Davis Cup, and I can practice these days very good.
I was comfortable with my physique, and all the week, no, we practiced good. And today maybe I play a really good game and maybe the best matches of my career.
http://tennishasasteroidproblem.blogspot.com.es/search/label/david%20ferrer

Yes, Delpo wasn't running anywhere close to Ferru's form and game. But Murray outlasted and outplayed the little monkey yesterday. He hit and retrieved some impossible shots. OMG, is this the case of a potential younger doper outshining a potential older doper?

I am often in agreement with Swisscheese so no surprise there.

I think when considering who's a possible doper, it is important to look at the style of play. Some style do benefit much more than others and some are essentially based on that extra power and fitness. Nadal, Errani are the best possible games which would benefit from extra power and stamina as they can bring any game into a physical battle.

This M. Ings really annoyed me cause everything was said to discredit the site. I actually even think he is/was paid by the establishment to keep THASP under control.

From what I read now, he seems to have less and less legs to stand on. I still like the way old THASP responds to him.

===========================

Just look at Jamie's frame, legs and stamina....and look at Andy.

The fact ANdy can sustain long rallies despite his frame is extremely suspicious. I know his fans won;t like it but it's a simple evidence.

I woudl not be surprised even if Federer was messing around with some. I am hoping not and I can't see obvious clues but nowadays we never know. One thing I know however is that make the game entirely clean and his talent will certainly bring him more slams...or certainly woudl have.

Big Grin Big Grin
I did exactly the same thing when he tried to disprove me,I was reading through some of the other comments and several people seemed to have proved him wrong while several questions posed to him have been completely ignored
If he is who he says he is,it should have been very easy to answer them
I too think he is a fraud, anyone can be anything or anyone behind the internet.Someone who knows they are right wouldn't waste their time trying to prove it one the internet, plus he is hell bend on trying to prove he is who he is...the whole thing is very suspicious. For someone who claims to have dealt with doping in tennis,he doesnt seem to know much about the drugs, how it works, cycles etc
If you ask Ruffin,we recently dealt with a liar, who we caught out over on BR who was exactly the same

I agree about what you said, some styles depends and would benefit far more in PED's then others, for me is always instantly clear to see someone who is on steroids, but it becomes harder to be 100% certain when someone is using another kind of PED where the side effects aren't visual, then you just have to monitor their season for evidence

Yes steroids are easy to see. Many players look bulky nowadays and they woudl have never looked like that just 10 years ago. EPO is much harder to notice those those who can sustain those 20 shot rallies and even try to inflict them to their opponent on almost every point just seals it for me.

Murray vs Fed final.....
Murray has yet to take a set of Roger in a grand slam...maybe he will this time but looking at how Fed played today,Murray will have to do something really special to win the title
