That's non sense JS. Nadal's best year is actually this year and it's not finished yet. his record his 71/6 so far.

Fed has in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, a better record than Nadal's best year.

If you take fed's 5, 7 , 8 , 9 and 10 best years, it woudl still beat Nadal's 10 best years! The difference is that Fed played a lot and lost a lot when young....then getting older.

Look, you're cherry picking certain years to suit your agenda.

If you follow their careers, match by match; Nadal has ALWAYS had a better W/L ratio.

JS,
I have a big question for you.
How and why did you start supporting Nadal?

Also, is there anything you don't like about him?

What do you mean cherry picking? Fed's best 5 years on the tour gives him a w/l ratio of 0.913. Nadal's best 5 years give him a 0.87 ratio.

It's not even close. And Nadal's stats are biasely helped by retiring last year after Wimby giving him one of his best w/l ratio year thanks to quitting after the clay season.

It is clear cherry picking, you're picking a certain amount of years which you know will give you a better data for Federer.

If you do a fair comparison, all throughout their careers, Nadal comes out on top.

Not quite, I'm not a statistics buff but hasn't Nadal won most of his titles and wins on one surface?
Not to mention he would not have won any of those without the help of his " doctors".
A "clean" Nadal would have been trounced by a ".clean" Ferrer, in some middle of nowhere futures event, of course Winking

But that's where you are biased cause throughout the career can only be compared when Nadal is 32. Not when he is at his peak without the decline. (I mean decline not in terms of form but in terms of starting to get beaten by players coming of age...like he is being taught lessons by Delpo and Djoko lately.

No... let me repeat.
When I say year by year, I mean year by year.
So Nadal's W/L ratio now is better than Fed's W/L ratio at the same age.

That's because Nadal played a lot of sat tournament when young while fed played much more accountable tournaments where he faced the big boys. Look at Nadal's 2002 or 3 year. He gets 18 losses (including one against Gasquet) but only 11 are recorded.

From 2003 to 2007 Fed is H&S above Nadal winning ratio.

Looking good for Fed.  looking ominous for Gasquet.  To be fair, who really gave Gasquet a prayer of making it through the group stages?  His group is loaded.  The real crunch moment is going to be Federer against Del Potro...   That could go either way.

Yes I think Fed is playing quite well and in my view should beat Delpo who is completely demoralised now that one robbed him his Pope blessed bible.

I am a bit sarcastic here but I really understand his frustration. His USO and Olympic trophies were stolen in Paris but he doesn't care. he cares about his bible which we learnt was blessed by the Argentinian pope.

Yeah it's special for him.  He'll get another one I'm sure smiley  Imagine robbing a bible...

As a Fed fan I've come to accept that he isn't near his best anymore, but I appreciate the genius he can still show on court, and he entertains always..  It will be a sad day when he retires. And I haven't given up on him winning another Slam.  I know he can do it...  even if it's an outside chance. Rod Laver reckons he will win the Aussie Open, and who am I to argue with him. Cool

Age comes to us all though, and even Federer couldn't stop that.  Phil Taylor has.... but that's not a physical sport :P

A lot of is is lack of confidence.  This year Federer has had so many defeats compared to usual that he really is feeling the pressure.  Making far too many mistakes with no consistency. The majority of that is connected with decline, but some of it is purely psychological.  And he has to fix that.

He says the back was his problem more than anything else. And obviously this has played a lot on his confidence I guess.

So now it is all down to Djoko v Delpo now.

If Djoko wins this eve then it's a Fed/Delpo deciding match for 2nd.

If Delpo wins this evening then it's mathematically open I believe.

I would like to see Nole and Fed in the semis, should be against Stan and Nadal.
I thought the slow court was going to be perfect for Delpo, but his form seems to have gone off the boil.
Funny thing today, a couple turned up for coaching behind my court, and the woman was telling (more yelling so the entire club can hear it) the coach (who is a huge Stan fan), how she went to O2 last night,  "watched Nadal" (the other "guy" was irrelevant, I don't think she even knew who Stan was) and how the court was super, super, super fast, and Nadal's FH was flying like a rocket!
Scary.

Yes, Delpo is a very likeable character. He rarely plays all court tennis but when he does, he is great to watch.
I saw him hit that running forehand in Wimbledon this summer, fantastic shot!
I hope he replaces Ferrer in the top 4 soon.

The link to this forum was never posted on 606v2 or bbc606.

It was posted on ja606 by NITB last year, but not that many people used ja606 at the time.
The people who know about the forum are people who were on ja606 at the time, or was linked it by someone who knew about the site.
(Summerblues is the only exception to this, as he was notified by Tenez IIRC)

Ok, it seems I have created some confusion.
Nole - we have never spoken, (though I realize that there's no way to prove that). Not sure who you think I am. But hello nevertheless!
Julia - the transition from bbc to v2 was well advertised, and then I remember reading the commotion last year when people broke away from V2. I can't really remember how I found this place though. Google maybe? I came here from time to time to see a few threads smiley

Thanks, I guess. It really is my first time here! Though the more I say it the more it doesn't sound like it Sad

Moving on then, I think I'd rather see Djokovic win tonight so it would be a shoot out between Fed and Delpo for the semis (with Fed winning of course smiley ). I've done the maths and it'll be really close otherwise.

Nole looking very good tonight. Hard to imagine him not winning the title again on Monday.
Only Federer possessed could have a say.

Serving brilliant, FH sharp and aggressive, BH there to keep Delpo guessing and sweating, and oh, those silky drop-shots, very nice tennis from Nole tonight Bubbly
