Federer swoops tennis awards AGAIN
Roger Federer received three honours in the 2013 ATP World Tour Awards presented by Moët & Chandon on Wednesday, in an on-court ceremony at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
Federer was selected by his peers as the winner of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award for a ninth time and by fans as the ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite presented by Moët & Chandon for an 11th straight year.
On receiving the Sportsmanship award, Federer said, “It is very special as Stefan Edberg was my hero growing up, when all I wanted to do was play on the ATP World Tour. So to follow in his footsteps is wonderful and I hope I can be a role model for players growing up.
“It’s all a bit overwhelming to be honest,” admitted Federer, when he received the Fans' Favourite award. “I have been around a long time, so I guess that helps. I appreciate all the fans turning up to stadiums around the world. You (the fans) keep me working hard. I am forever grateful.”
In addition, the 32-year-old Swiss was named the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year for a second time (also 2006) in recognition of his foundation’s support of children in Africa and Switzerland. Since 2003, Federer has won a record total of 27 ATP World Tour Awards.
“It is something very personal on many levels,” said Federer. “I never thought that it would be possible as a young boy to establish a foundation. Arthur Ashe and Andre Agassi inspired me by their example.
“It is 10 years since we established the foundation. We hope to touch one million lives by 2018. It is an honour to receive this award for a second time.”
Andre Silva, the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals Tournament Director, presented Federer the three awards, which were crafted by Tipperary Crystal.

proves that just winning tournaments doesnt mean shiate when all is said and done, theres far more to being the GOAT and legend then just winning titles
clearly more loved and respected by both fans and peers than any other player has for the past decade

Re: Federer swoops tennis awards AGAIN
I am glad Fed won all this, but for me personally, Stefan Edberg Award has lost ALL its value in 2010 when it was given to Nadal.
From one of my favourite poets:
Abuses and Awards
by Andrei Voznesensky
A poet can't be in disfavour,
he needs no awards, no fame.
A star has no setting whatever,
no black nor a golden frame.
A star can't be killed with a stone, or
award, or that kind of stuff.
He'll bear the blow of a fawner
lamenting he's not big enough.
What matters is music and fervour,
not fame, nor abuse, anyway.
World powers are out of favour
when poets turn them away.

Yes nice but what we really want is another slam or even another world number 1!

Re: Federer swoops tennis awards AGAIN
They gave it to Nadal because of how bad it looked for him, but if you look at the list, it still looks bad on him. The fan's favourite has been Federer every year. It's great when reality gives those Rafa fanboys a kick in the ass.

Hey Vj,
Unfortunately, success is often a double-edged sword. On top of the domestic obligations of being a husband and father, the equally time-consuming demands of his Foundation, endorsements etc all add up to rob Fed from his overall tennis focus and performance.
Unlike all or most of his tennis peers who’ve got all the time to focus on their tennis before a tournament, Roger before going on court to even play one match probably would have to take time out interacting with his daughters; to update his tennis business affairs with Mirka (also the house money manager) and to conference with his various Foundation and endorsements representatives etc. etc. Because of his popularity and humanitarian devotions, Fed has always had so much more on his plate needing his attention compared to any of the top guys. That’s perhaps why, even when his back issue is under control, he’s unable to focus and sustain consistency for the entire duration of even Bo3 matches these days.
Nevertheless, I feel proud of him that he’s ticked all the boxes. He has nothing more to prove. Neither does he need to answer to the press re very suspicious and ugly “hiding in a corner for months” or “playing games on court” allegations. Just playing for the love and challenge of the game now battling with the top guns in their prime years younger. A lucky guy he is.

SR- spot on-- Feds agent- Tony Godsick at the US Open told a group of Federers website fans (the ones that follow him all over the world and know the team) that he and others wants Federer to cut down on his obligations - he specifically mentioned the Players board. People just don't understand how busy Federer is compared to others. While Djokovic is partying it up in Serbian nightclubs and Nadal on is fishing trips, Fed is in Africa for charity work...
