Nadal withdraws from Cincinnati
The plot thickens..was he silently suspended from tour for possibly failing a drugs test at Wimbledon?
Whatever the case I doubt he is a serious contender for the U.S Open now
I question if he will make it to the semi finals

Re: Nadal withdraws from Cincinnati
Crazy stuff going on!
Murray pulls out of Cincy, too as well as Tsonga!
"Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
was involved in a traffic accident in Toronto that has forced him to
pull out of next week's event in Cincinnati, the French journalist Eric
Salliot reports. Tsonga received several stiches in his knee. The
sixth-ranked Tsonga's participation at the U.S. Open does not appear to be in doubt. The Open starts on August 27."
"After pulling out of Toronto with a knee injury, Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray
tells reporters that he’s unsure if he will play the event next week in
Cincinnati. Murray played three events on grass at the London Olympics.
"Normally when I move on to hard courts, I have 10 days or so practicing
and you feel things like this, but you can work around it by doing the
right training and what not," Murray said. "I don't want to go full out
and possibly do any more damage…Over the next few days we'll come up
with a plan and strategy to either get myself ready for Cincinnati, or
if not, then plan for the best way to prepare for the U.S. Open.
But today I won't think about any strategies or whatever. It'll just be
about what's the next move and where do we go from here."

It could be otherwise too. I saw how broken he appeared to show after the AO2010 match against Murray and took some break off for injury. And it was remarkable how he returned from that sweeping the entire summer season winning all clay and wimbledon. He had never looked stronger and fitter than he did that time. And was he not nursing another injury at Miami this year? And how did he turn up in just 3 weeks winning 2 masters and a RG all beating his last year's conqueror Djokovic. Normalcy is not the Nadal and his team. They can almost come up with surprising results.

Good points ROTLA
I was thinking the same thing, that Nadal could turn up and surprise everyone, but we have to take into consideration that he goes into the U.S Open without any match practice for almost 2 months.Thats quite a big break on the pro circuit,if it hasnt affected him at all then theres much to be suspicious about

Re: Nadal withdraws from Cincinnati
Veejay, I would like to ask you about this silent suspension/bans. What is the reason for this suspicion of yours? I don't have much information on this, but I may like to think that Nadal is taking his break just as he does after AO to prepare for the upcoming clay season. I think it could be that he is taking a break to juice up. Remember he did look out of sorts in those 2 HC masters in 2010 prior to USopen. But when US open came, he looked back to his supreme form and even turned into an acer clocking 135mph which never happened again.

Firstly, thank you very much for sticking up for me on JA606 while I wasn't there to defend myself,I really appreciate it.It was very kind of you and I hope you know that I have your back too 8)
Im just going to ignore LogieB from now onwards,he seems to be nothing more then a troll
TRuffin who also comments on this forum has a friend who works at IMG and he told TRuffin that Nadal has failed a drugs test around last years WTF,one test was a clear fail and the other was boarding on a fail. This resulted in Nadal receiving a silent suspension from tour and wasn't allowed to play for the month of February
I guess this is the only confirmation we have that players are silently banned, where as before it was just speculation
The last time there was a rumour that Nadal failed a drugs test was when he lost to Solderling at RG in 09.He didn't play Queens or Wimbledon and its rumoured he was silently suspended from playing, which is why under ATP rules he was allowed played the exhibition matches but not Wimbledon. The other strange thing was that he didn't withdraw from Wimbledon immediately,he waited till the very last minute to announce it which some think has to do with the fact he was waiting for the ruling
Theres been a lot of similarities this season as there was in 09,so theres been speculation if Nadal may have failed a drugs test at Wimbledon and that he knew about it going into his match with Rosol
He withdrew from the Olympics, but once again didn't announce his withdrawal till the very last minute and now he has withdrawn from 2 other tournaments in the same way
There are also a few other players where there was speculation of a silent ban, like Henin who retired 2 weeks before RG and then returned to tour when a 2 year suspension would be up
Of course its all just speculation, but whatever the case may be one thing I am sure about is that Nadal cant possibly still be injured. As you mentioned the last time he withdrew because of a similar injury he was back on tour within 3 weeks
I find it hard to believe that the Nadal camp would make Nadal go into a major without getting match practice if that option was available to them

Re: Nadal withdraws from Cincinnati
Good post veejay and thanks for the explanation. but a question pops up now os why would ATP or ITF put a silent ban on Nadal. Silent bans are not legal and they still would do it? If ATP tested him positive why are they keeping it silent. I'm not saying what it could be, just trying to think deep.
If the motive to keep it silent is the millions which a player like Nadal has can still earn for them, why ban him at all. Why will they want him to sit out from any tournament and reduce its attendance and TV rights earnings. I'm sure Nadal's absence from Toronto and Cincy will not go easy on the pockets of tournament owners. If that be the case how can he still be suspended.
What can Nadal do if they just open up and declare to the world that Nadal was found of using so-n-so banned substance and hence has been suspended from playing pro tournaments. If ATP/ITF needs a player like Nadal, even Nadal needs ATP or ITF. What is it that Nadal or his team are holding up which could possibly be threatening to even ATP. And if they are really afraid of it, how would they even dare to give a silent suspension. Why would Nadal or his team accept it at all?

The only sense I can make of it is that such a scandal would ruin the sports credibility.Nadal is too big a sports celebrity and if he were to fall the world of tennis would fall with him.Theres just too much at stake, cause sports today isnt even about the game or the players, its a huge business competing for ratings, endorsements and advertising.Nadal is a cash machine, they wouldnt shoot themselves in the foot by exposing him and scandals like that is very bad for business
Tennis has always been considered a gentleman's sports and it has a squeaky clean image,if one of its stars were to be exposed as a drugs cheat, the damage that would do could be irreparable
You do raise a really good point that why ban a player at all if its a silent ban.I guess they still need to try and enforce some rules and penalise a player for cheating. It seems like there are rules for all the other players and a different set of rules for the top players
If what TRuffins link at IMG says is correct then the Nadal camp have the ATP cornered cause if they expose Nadal, the Nadal camp can expose the ATP for hiding his failed drug tests. This in my opinion will damage the sport beyond repair, far more then if Nadal was exposed cause then the ATP loses all credibility and it will look like they have handed titles to certain players on a silver plate by allowing them to cheat and covering for them.
We already know that the ATP kept Agassi's failed drug tests a secret,so its not far fetched to consider the possibility that they could do that for another player

If doping was the reason that nadal was worrying that he must be ruing the opportunity. It seems that everything has been covered nicely so far. Hardly any dopers have been caught and people who doped in the past are winning medals.

There were a few athletes that tested positive but it hasnt been given much media attention, its just too negative and would kill the spirit the Olympics has brought to the countrywow3 wrote:If doping was the reason that nadal was worrying that he must be ruing the opportunity. I did find it funny how as you mentioned athletes that were caught doping and were previously banned from competing were winning medals
Even Dwain Chaimbers was there competiting

Dwain Chambers, lol. Poor guy, it is impossible to beat these Jamaicans. He could have tried his luck in rowing or cycling.
Ohroughu won, she was banned too.

Was Christine Ohuruogu actually banned cause the controversy was that she missed a drugs test 3 times in a row. That automatically results in a banning no? But Im questioning if she actually served a banning,I cant remember...??

That was comical. You are mistaking Ohroughu with Greek athletes. She was also Christina but a hurdler.
