Re: London 2012 Olympics: (Round 6 ) THE FINAL
After a simulated velodrome ride in the spinnig class, I am feeling a lot better this morning
Nothing works like a bit of hard graft....
Ready for tomorrow but in the meantime look forward to watching the women's final. Something I haven't done in a looooong time.
Serena - Sharapova: bring on the best and feistiest drama queens on. Let the cat fight begin

6-0....had a feeling it would be a white wash
The second set will most likely be more competitive but Sharapova doesnt stand a chance, she can barely hang onto her own service games, how is she going to still figure out a way to break Serena serve on top of that
Looks like Serena could end the year ranked no1 again, cant see anyone stopping her at Flushing Meadows

Serena just unbelievable.
The thing that does not fail to amaze me is how much time she has for all her shots. An not just after here serve.

An absolutely brilliant win, and tournament for Serena.
Feel sorry for Sharapova, but there was nothing she could do today.

This tournament really proved that she isn't as one dimensional as many claim she is,she's not just all about overpowering her opponent. The difference in class between her and Sharapova couldnt be bigger, when she's playing like she has been the last few days, shes untouchable

Re: London 2012 Olympics: (Round 6 ) THE FINAL
There is another center court match for the bronze medal. Delpo faces the Beijing bronze medalist Djokovic. The stake is bigger for Delpo, he will need to win it. This is more than a bronz medal and 340 points. This might pave the way for him to be in top-5 soon where is so long has been believed to belong. I never saw him play any better than what he did on friday, perhaps equal to how he played in the US open 2009. This medal will do him a lot good. I hope he wins it.
Djo has nothing much other than a soft consolation in today's match. I'm not sure if he can try hard to win it as much as he tried for his bronze in 2008. He already has a bronze medal and 2 bronze in tennis Olympics not much better than 1. He is on a little slide down game and confidence wise. I didn't expect Murray to have such a easy win like it did. Djo couldn't create a single BP and on both occasions when he was serving to stay in the set, he lost it. Lack of energy to keep going? Mental fatigue? Very much. Its a lot tougher to be the hunted.

Re: London 2012 Olympics: (Round 6 ) THE FINAL
Murray wins!!. A great win for him. Fed was moving like a rock. Very fatigued. Actually I was expecting this from him, but just was hoping he could win. I had never until friday heard him say he was this tired like he said after the 4 h 26 min semis match.
Fantastic win for Murray, it was more important for him than Fed. He wanted it more than Fed and got it. Well played. Congratulations to Murray and GB.
Also great win for Delpo for his bronze. I also hoped him to win it. It was more important for Delpo than Djo. I didn't see the match as I was watching Fed-Murray, but I think Djo may not have tried hard enough for another bronze. It was important for Delpo a lot. Congratulations to Delpo and Argentina. Well played, especially lifting himself after the heart breaking loss to Fed on friday.

Re: London 2012 Olympics: (Round 6 ) THE FINAL
Just got back, had a fantastic day. Will upload some photos tomorrow.
Saw all 3 matches on Centre, it all went really fast.
Just somequick observations: the court was bad. Murray's backhand looked beautiful at times. His first serve motion is very very good at the moment. Low toss quite forward, he lunges himself into it , can't be ny better for his build.
Fed struggled with it a bit, even with the 2nd serve.
On the court, Fed looked orgeous, as usual, even when he was missing his shots, there's something about his ball striking that is just breath-taking, esp his slices.
Again, his backhand impressed me most today, something to behold!
Murray went fo the corners, executed great depth and hit his shots with a lot more pace than Fed. Even the forehand.
Met some Spaniards on the train - Nadal fans, it was hilarious how they tried to explain why they didn't like Nadal, their English was just as bad as his.

Thanks for the pictures nitb. This olympics wasn't as dull as it was in the initial 2-3 days. I also think that Tennis in olympics is beginning to get more importance than all the previous years. Just like AO slowly gained. Or maybe its just the british media hype. Whatever be it, but it certainly is becoming an important tennis tournament slowly. I just hope ATP's scheduling should be better for the 2016 olympics. Perhaps they were not hoping as many top player playing the olympics as they did this year.

TBH, the match went so quick there, I don't even know how it all happened. From what I saw, Murray completely outmuscled Federer.
Fed spent too much time on the baseline which looked as if it was ready for planting potatoes...
Murray had tons of pace on his shots, Fed was happy to rally with him and that was the mistake.
I'm glad Murray won it, as this would mean a lot to him. No shame in winning sliver, either.

Nadal and Djokovic brought the trend for Olympic popularity in my opinion, the Olympics mean a lot more to Southern European nations. In East European countries, as well. All Russian tennis players will tell you Olympic gold means more to them than a slam.
Murray couldn't be bothered in Beijing but admitted that he was inspired when he saw Novak's tears on winning bronze there.
I think Fed wanted it but more for the sake of wanting it. Patriotism in not that big in Switzerland.
Still, he's done enough just being himself to completely reinvent the popularity of tennis.

It was remarkable how Murray overpowered Roger, especially considering that Murray isn't a power player.I don't think I have ever seen him so fast
Roger has had a dream season and silver is still a great achievement, but its crazy to look at all he has achieved and that a gold medal eluded him
