Re: Wimbledon 2013 Day 5
Am in Court 1, players started the match (3 points) and then sat back on their chairs for 3 minutes.
Suddenly, the court has magically dried and the play has resumed.
I am super miffed as they took away my flag in the bag search.
Apparently, it's too big this year..
So it's Alund vs Ferrer

I can't believe I'm saying it, but I wouldn't mind the 5th set between Ferrer and Agut, it's turning into a nice little match with Agut showing belief &resolve and spending quite some time at the net, what a nice surprise!
Shame he lost the 3rd set TB

Stakh lost to Melzer . I wish he would have done better. But maybe the euphoria of beating the greatest grass court player didn't sink in as yet. Happens. Even Fed lost in the next round after beating Pete in 2001.

Re: Wimbledon 2013 Day 5
I am sat in Debentures lounge sipping Pimms and waiting for the rain tp stop.
Apparently, at 7 PM.
Really enjoyed the first match, much nicer than Murray - Robredo I am watching on a screen right now.
Saw lots of other players on smaller courts, the cool thing about this lunge you can sit in a super comfy armchair and watch three small courts, it was great tobe a le to see and not hear Larcher de Brito, sadly none of it going on atm because of the rain.

Re: Wimbledon 2013 Day 5
Well I can say I did not really enjoy my day there. First the tennis was not great. In fact the one who impressed me most was Robredo. He does not hit hard but he is a smooth player with a pretty nice SHBH. He was of course over powered by Murray....except in teh second serve department of course where Robredo was probably 10mph faster on average.
The weather was crap and sitting on CC can be boring when you don't really fancy the players. The best moment was actually to cheer for Chardy and seeing Struff play really close on court 14.
This tournament has really lost its appeal to me. Murray being very solid, I am hoping JJ can create the upset which I doubt so we are likely to see another Djoko v Murray.

Re: Wimbledon 2013 Day 5
I finished my day in the nicest possible imaginable way and am still thanking myself for the decision that brought it about: when the rain stopped and play resumed, rather than return to my fantastic seat in C1 and watch Kvitova, I decided to go to court 14 which I just managed to see with the corner of my eye as I was leaving the lounge.
Court 14 was the place to be: Brown vs Mannarino.
The few available seats seemed to have filled very quickly, which left the rest of us envy the few 7 ft tall men who could see over the fence and rush to the neighbouring court 15 where we created an art of watching the match on a court across from us all.
Wimbledon crowd, with its "knowledgeable" image, was far from it tonight!
About 99% of them cheered for Brown and only I and anther one or two people for Mannarino. Nobody knew who he was and just wanted him to lose, even cheering for his UEs...so I couldn't help a "Come on Adrian!" cheering moment, which earnt me a few disapproving looks from Brown's "fans".
Both players performed PURE MAGIC, my poor sore knees I "rested" on those hard plastic seats suffered gladly!
I don't know what was better: Brown's serving, smooth ball-striking, crazy improvisation and fun on the court or absolutely sublime touch and gorgeous ball-striking from Mannerino whose slices were feathery light, elegant and deadly all at the same time.
The pair played for their and our souls and I felt privileged to be able to watch and witness it.
To top it all, the staff did the unthinkable: they handed us out free sandwiches!
As the match progressed the crowd grew thicker and thicker, until even the next-door court I was watching form was filled out and I appeared to have a premium "seat".
It was just fabulous!
The best of all was that Mannarino won in three sets just as the light was dying down.
I cannot praise enough the tennis Brown and Mannarino played, it was such a wonderful break from all the grunting, muscling, bashing, cheating, faking, I was in pure tennis heaven and I'll never forget that experience.
It felt just like this:

Yes I had a friend on court 14 too and he really enjoyed it even though he was in the 99% Dustin supporter.
