Re: Roland Garros 2013: Day 10
The problem I have with you two's views (Paul's and BC's) is that you seem to see only one Federer. I still see 2. The one who can play as well as ever (getting rarer admittedly) and the one who is clearly hampered by his back (I guess). In short the one who was good enough to break Tsonga effortlessly yesterday and the one who suddenly coudl not move properly. That has been going on for years but more so since Madrid 2012.
Since Madrid 2012....we have had the Federer able to win Wimby 12 or Cincy 12 making Djoko and Murray look very average...and the very average Federer making poor Berdych look good.
I can indeed see that the 2nd Federer is more and more the one we have nowadays.....but I still don;t see this as "declining" I see injury...as simple as that.

Ten, it is really time to take off the pink glasses regardless to which Fed's version plays

I have heard that before Paul. I remember when some already then in 2009 (4 years ago that Fed had peaked). The fact is that he lessoned Djoko, Murray and Nadal in 20010, 2011 and 2012.
Clearly it seems you cannot make the different between the Federer who lessoned Djoko on grass just a year ago and the one who is injured. The one who gets lessoned by Benneteau and teh one who lessons benneteau.
If you cannot see there are 2 versions then clearly you are the one who should change your glasses ...for a white stick maybe?

For the time being no need for a white stick for me, I have underwent laser eye surgery with quite good result some years ago. What about you?
I must admit that when we watch Fed playing we just give a sigh when he shanks the ball and I can dare to say there is no player who is bigger shanker than Fed unfortunately atm. I see that Fed after Wimby lost much of his relentlessness and plays by a margin more stubborn tennis than he used to play. He can and will play some perfect points, but he lost quite a lot of the game when he needs to show more focus and patience. I do not think that he played really injured or with a real pain against Jo-Wi, he was visibly worse player on the court. I would not say that he does not have a chance in Wimbledon, but players as Nole, Murray, Berd, Tsonga can return his serve well and going through his BH is a definitely winning strategy these days. Let's not write Fed off his chance, but my old glasses have been hidden somewhere in a lower drawer. I do not know where, but no need to look for them anyway

Re: Roland Garros 2013: Day 10
It is possible (and it seems the case now) that his back is going to trouble him more and more and that there is no solution and indeed he might retire or take the rest of teh year off..after WImby. But if/when his back is ok....it's not simply a great point there and there as you say ....it's a whole game and match. Even in London 6 months ago being completely nackered he still managed to lead Djoko for most of the WTF final.
