haha tenez!
As I am not working this year I plan to go as much as possible to watch, so I will be back again trying out my tricks Big Grin.

Best tip is to go in the 2nd match after the first set, that is when all the rich peeps leave and lots of seats become available (preferably in the first week).
It does involve a lot of trial and error (running between each entrance asking where the best place to go is and then looking through to see where the biggest amount of seats are.
I tend to go higher up as you have a better chance that way! SO WORTH IT!

Ok...Murray had an excuse....Wind and injured as he retires at 1 set all. Funny how he fought to win that 2nd set despite knowing he would default.

And also proof than Stan was injured in that Madrid final...he also gives a w.o. to Dolgo.

Great & fun read about Nadal from P. Bodo

"...Roger Federer, for example, went from being happy-go-lucky in a “life, what’s not to like?” kind of way to a wonderful champion and an ambassadorial presence in the game (granted, he’s a good half-decade older than Rafa). And Novak Djokovic morphed from a brash youngster who made cringe-worthy declarations about himself into an adult who carries the burden of his accomplishments and role in tennis with dignity and class.

The biggest change in Nadal, though, is that at some point a few years ago, his pants got shorter and his sleeves got longer. Sure, he’s been in some steamy underwear ads and a make-out music video, but apart from that we’ve seen precious little growth. He did take part in the ATP’s political life, along with Federer and Djokovic, but notably walked away from it when things didn’t go his way.

The only real signs of change and growth have been in the masquerade of crises—those periodic episodes of introspective fatalism, and something like real fear, that accompanied Rafa’s struggles with injury. Even those experiences now seem less like game changers in any substantial way (meaning, a way that led to increased self-knowledge or awareness) than temporary, volcanic eruptions that are stilled when times are good again—meaning when Rafa is once again peerless. We’re in that period again; following his win in Madrid, Rafa told us: “My drive is working again at the highest level....”

It's a shame we stopped playing those prediction games...
I won USO and you won AO, although rotla never found the time to calculate the points.
I don't want to be remembered as a one slam wonder, do you? Winking
Shall we have one for RG (properly, right down to presentation speech)?

Djokovic-Dolgopolov - Djko
Gulbis-Nadal - Gulbis

Federer-Simon - Federer

Court 2 10.00 AM

Berdych-Anderson - Anderson
Del Potro-Paire - Delpo
Ferrer-Kohlschreiber- Ferrer
Gasquet-Janowicz - Gasquet
-----
Djokovic shall have it, but Dolgo can surprise me. Dlogo plays such extreme ends, we just don't know which end will he be playing today. Maybe that's what is so electrifying about him.

Gulbis-Nadal - Nadal, but it won't be easy.

Federer-Simon - Simon will be toast today. He can push and draw errors from Youzhny, but Fed is determined more than the first 2 times they met.

Berdych-Anderson : Berd is playing good and will win in 2 sets with a TB set.

Del Potro-Paire : I'm going with Paire, delpo wasn't looking too sharp in his last match.

Ferrer-Kohlschreiber : Ferrer easily wins these kind of encounters.

Gasquet-Janowicz : JJ must still be high, but I think he will prevail. He played some spectacular tennis yesterday, and Tsonga wasn't bad at all.

Hamburg 2010? More staggering tennis knowledge from you people. Lol!!

And you do realize that Starace has played Nadal 6 times, and in those 6 times he has only taken 1 single set and that was all the way back in 2008 at the Olympics. The last time they played in Doha in 2010 Nadal mauled him 6-2 6-2. Nadal should be shaking in his Nike's next time he has to play him. Rome - ATP 1000: Rome - Page 2 2033450363

Started watching Nole-Dolgo at 4:1, it's 5:1 now for Novak who is serving for the set, playing very well. Dolgo terrible (most of the time).Job done , set served out with 3 aces. Dolgo looks he can't be bothered. Very disappointing.

Delpo trying to disturb Paire's service rhythm by making him wait, and Paire double faults, misses the next first serve butwins the point with the second.

There should be time violation penalty for the receiver, as well!

Gulbis is another who, like Djoko, Almagro, Federer, Ferrer, Davydenko, etc...can make Nadal look average on clay...but only Djoko can do for over 2 sets.

Alma will last 3 games up to a set, the others can stretch it to a set or 2 but when all lose their sharpness...Djoko can still rally for ever. Paul and many others fail to see the obvious challenge when facing Nadal, it's the phsyical side and hardly anything mental...it's all about being able to keep it up.

Gulbis is currently showing how crap the best player of all time on clay .....is on clay!

I'm pretty sure Gulbis can last another set, he hasn't run a lot today. Just needs to keep it together between the ears and preserve his energy on Nadal service games not get drawn into those energy-saping long rallies.

Do people realise how close a 61 v Nadal can be. We can see Nadal sole goal thus far is to make sure Gulbis does some running. The last thing Nadal wants is to hit winners early. This is why he only has hit 3 in the first set alone.

Yes, people do realise Winking
Gulbis should've not started throwing silly drop-shots in that last game, but glad he got through! He's got to keep Nadal subdued, esp now that he is going to throw all at him, stupid forehands, long rallies, you name it, it he'll do it.

He's bound to be nervous a bit too, so if he starts missing, that will make life for Gulbis a lot easier.

That's why he's got to keep it cool in the head in the next few games, hold serve, and not waste too much energy trying to break at all cost.

Did you see this rally just now, Gulbis pulled the trigger but should've rallied with Nadal, Nadal was on his last legs in that point oxygen wise throwing all those energy super-consuming forehands.
That's where Novak has Nadal on the ropes. Gulbis should not have panicked in that point, Nadal's energy in a point is not endless, I reckon it lasts about 5 forehands and that's it.

yes, and he should know better than to waste his energy like that. I hope it does not affect him in the head, though. It really shouldn't esp if he holds his serve comfortably now.

That's where Novak has Nadal on the ropes. Gulbis should not have panicked in that point, Nadal's energy in a point is not endless, I reckon it lasts about 5 forehands and that's it.

Exactly. YOu go for too much cause you are breathless but do not realise that Nadal is also on his last leg and keeping it cool and extend teh rally is what needs doing.

Federer did it beautifully in that Wimby 2007...winning the last 5 games in a row.

Is Llayani a bit over the top with calling those inaudaiable lets and ruining Gulbis's first serve in this game?

A couple of great BHs from Nadal pulling him out of a tough situation.
