Yes but he seems slow...or made look slow, probably.

Clearly the mental side is very important in such fast games.
Mentally Fed always shows his best side in matches like these.
BTW: what a points! From both sides

How long wil JJ's elbow hold?

Another great TB from the TB king.
Exellent job to win this in 2. He did nothing wrong throughout the match

Glad I was right on that one. So there was one TB after all. But still, you'd gotta love the way Fed schools the youngsters!

It's so good to see such fast and powerful matches.
Intersting to see how Fed stood so close from the baseline against such a player whereas Nadal stands 5m behind when facing Ferrer.
The gap in talent could not be more obvious.

I guess Fed is also happy he played one of those hard hitters instead of a granoller or Ferrer who woudl have forced him to put more miles in.

He definitly likes this more. Look how friendly he always is at the net against guys like Raonic, Karlovic, Isner. He appreciates the guys who go for it.

Re: ATP 1000: Rome
Semi-finals day in Rome and we have two interesting and hopefully good matches:
3.30 PM
Nadal - Berdych
7.00 PM
Federer- Paire
Not many would have predicted this line-up, still it's very promising and I look forward to wathching both matches.
Nadal-Berdych is by no means a Nadal guarantee win, I think Nadal is easier for Berd to play than Novak.
Berd also does not fear Nadal, so it should be good. We know what to expect from both players and if Berd gets into his serving groove and simple attacking tennis, it could be a good, competitive and open match.
I think he is wise enough not to be drawn into silly running games like Gulbis did the other day, thus saving himself for potential Tie-breaks.
Federer-Paire, one for the soul, and another one after last night's Federer-JJ match that will feature two attacking players.
Federer and Paire did play recently and Paire lost convincingly. I would like to believe that Paire will forget he is playing his childhood idol today and just try to beat him, because with the new-found confidence and consistency he has shown in Rome, there is no reason why he should not believe.
He does not have Federer's footwork and speed, but, like JJ last night, does have a fast serve and fast groundstrokes, he is a much more elegant version of JJ in some way.
I wish Paire lots of self-belief and patience in the match, no hanging of his head when things (read drop-shots) don't work out. Keep ploughing Benoit, it's ok to be gritty in a tennis match

Sky commentators are MASSIVELY annoying.
Nadal just chases the ball down (easy) flicks it over the net (nothing special) and what do they say in their sugar coated girly little voices: It's another gem from Rafa....

Berd really blew that break-point by choosing to rally with his CC BH instead of running around his forehand and just let rip, he had plenty of time to do it....ah well, at least he didn't try a drop-shot

I wish I could find a Bulgarian stream, I can't take these Sky commentators any more.....
"Is there anything better than this?" asks one of them in trance as Nadal hits a safe FHDTL into the empty court....
Yes, there IS something even better than that, YOU shutting up and getting a job packing shelves in ASDA....

Good to se Berd settle into his service rhythm in this set. Let's hope he wins it either by breaking Nadal or in a TB.
Of course, Nadal will have a MTO after the second set if Berd wins it.

Job done for Nadal. Very pale edition from Berdych today. As if beating Novak yesterday was enough for him as far as Rome was concerned. Small appetite for such a big man.

Re: ATP 1000: Rome
What was Berd thinking? You just can't start a match against Nadal like that. He started like he was playing an exhibition against a 12 year old.
NAdal's confidence has grown considerably today.
Now i know i won't have to settle down for the final. Rome is a done deal.
Bring on RG, Hopefully Djoko gets back to his best form, otherwise RG will turn out in anti-climax

Well the odds on clay are 1/7 based on historical results (14%)...but I think Fed can do it. I'll believe till the very end.

A bit of both I guess.I think it coudl be down to a few points there and then again....like most of their encounter on clay have been . My only concern though now is that Fed seems certainly a step slower. Which I was not noticing up to recently.

Re: ATP 1000: Rome
I understand you have a few annoying commentators. We have Theo Bakker.
Every single time Federer is on court he comes up with his so called bad H2H's against Murray and Nadal. In Djoko's case he only mentions that Federer 7-3 down in the last 10 meetings.

In Paire's case it's admirable to play so loose, but in Roj' case ..yeah i don't think Roj liked what he saw this afternoon

Yes but Berds is useless versus Nadal.

True, but Berds 'lay-up's' throughout that match made Rafa a man with confidence

I wonder where he woudl rank Nadal's.
BTW isn't he a bit young to commentate ....he shoudl be on the satellite tour trying to come back. Anything wrong fitness wise (I don't mean mentally)?

Theo only believes in hard work. He was a ruthless coach for the Dutch table tennis team. Once a Federer fan but apparently can't stand Fed's slack attitude, so he turned against him
Thankfully Jan Siemerink is also commentating and he does a much better job
