Will Nadal play on hard courts in March?
That is an interisting question atm. If he plays, then he can get at least a bit of credit. I am convinced that instead of this we will ask another question, i.e. which kind of the excuse for leaving Masters on HC we will hear. Will be a virus or a patela or anything else? Let's wait.

I reckon he won't play. He is petrified of losing. He gave Murray a walkover in the IW semis last year, just so he doesn't have to play Nole in the final and lose complete edge and hope before the clay season (esp after losing THAT 6h long 2012 AO final).
Let's be honest, at least 10 players could beat him easily o hard courts right now.

Yes, he is the utter crap in this regard. But what kind of an excuse rubbish we get? At least we can have a laugh with themnoleisthebest wrote:I reckon he won't play. He is petrified of losing. I reckon it's going to be: hard courts are too tough for his poor knees....same old story

It is the failing eyesight. They will come with finding that Nadal has 3 dioptres and that his loss with Rosol was not due to a patela, but due to his inability to see the ball for a longer distance of 5 metres.noleisthebest wrote:I can see you already have an idea....

Latest from Toni:
"Every day the pain diminished. It’s what we were expecting, then we will see with what the intensity and workload will put on it. As of today we are far from the level of other years, but I trust that before long he will be better and start the clay court season strong in Europe."

Nadal says that he feels that his knees were better after today's win. His pain fluctuates according to Moon phase, which is a reason why he prefer moonballing. It does not make any sense to read it.

What I don't understand is why the hell does Nadal have pain in his knee after a seven month absence? That is long enough to heal tendinitis or a partially torn patellar from what I have read.
His rabid fans have to be some of the dumbest human beings on the planet to believe all that garbage re the injury story.

And as expected, he won't play in IW
"I think of Acapulco and nothing else,” he told reporters in Sao Paulo. "We ( )are not in a position to think weeks ahead. We ( )'ll go day by day, week by week. Let's see how my (what, now OUR knees?)knee responds in Acapulco, we ( )will discuss when we finish all this clay court swing what has happened during these three tournaments and what I thought about it. Then we ( )will see if we are ready to play in Indian Wells or not. It is not a matter of better rivals or surface, is a matter of how my knee is progressing. I have no problem playing against better opponents better because I accept losing or winning. I understand that it’s been a long time since I competed at the highest level. I have had only had two weeks getting rhythm, but I need time to continue to improve and become competitive."

The word of Nadal should be used for a new „psycho“ basic unit of dullness. We can just speculate how many these units Nadal has and then in regard to such a strong unit we should set also this unit in millinadals to measure normal population, i.e. for people who support anyone else apart from Nadal.BlueClay wrote:noleisthebest wrote:And as expected, he won't play in IW

There were sold inflatable dummies some years ago, which were called as antistress dummies. You could slap and hit them by fists as you wanted and it should release your stress. They were quite resistent against bursting. But if these dummies were with a grin of Nadal, I would burst about 10 per a day. Now I started to think about a production of themnoleisthebest wrote:Millinadals.... you're right!....don't they say that poison is sold in small bottles ?

I'd just hold a photo of Nole holding his AO 2012 trophy in front of the dummy and watch it explode

Re: Will Nadal play on hard courts in March?
As expected Nadal will not play in IW and Miami. He focuses just on clay. He has come to the conclusion that he is an easy mouthful for Nole.
A pro player does not have to play at Master if he meets a condition that he is on pro tour more than 12 years or he is over 31 yo or he has played more than 600 pro matches. If he meets one condition he does not have to play one Master and when he meets all three he does not have to play any Masters without a fine.
I think Nadal should pay a fine, because he has not been on tour for 12 years. Any thought about that?

I think we should collect some money among ourselves and pay him not to play. There are a lot of charities: Save the Planet, Save the Animals, ours could be: Save Tennis!

Well I guess he can always claim he is injured. I am starting to feel for him cause he is clearly not 100% physically and he'd be desperate to play on HC if he could.

Re: Will Nadal play on hard courts in March?
I see it rather in a way that Nadal should pay all right tennis people to watch him. It would not work in my case anyway, only with one exception. I am curious how ATP will handle with his excuses of not playing there. That will be another load of figments. We will see whether the rules will be bent according to Morybundus's pack.noleisthebest wrote:paulcz wrote:As expected Nadal will not play in IW and Miami. He focuses just on clay. He is only desperate from a loss with Nole. If he had such problems he would not play the third clay session, it is ridiculous. You will see when he wins Acapulco, he will say my knees are nearly ok.Tenez wrote:Well I guess he can always claim he is injured. Toni Nadal offers hope, and denies Marca's claiming Nadal's not playing IW&Miami:
"The information is not correct. Rafa still hasn’t decided weather to play or not the American tournament. The truth is that it would be dangerous to to Indian Wells because his knee is not 100%recovered. We’ll see after Acapulco. It’ll be hard to see Rafa at the start .We all knew that at the come back the knee would have reacted better, it wasn’t so. The sinew needs matches and the necessary running”.

I am actually still not convinced there's much wrong with his knees. Yes, the rust is there, but I think that's because he's been off the tour for so long.
His goal is to go for RG this year, and I really can't see how someone with ruined knees and his style of play with the competition and the dropped ranking he has to face can even think about winning RG .
I don' t know any player that returned to slam winning so fast after such a long break and "injury".
Maybe he is just saying it because of the sponsors. With him, there is no giving benefit of the doubt. I'll believe it shen I see it .

Re: Will Nadal play on hard courts in March?
So, Morybundus win got him in a precarious situation, but not as bad situation. Now he can not claim his absence in IW for heavily injured knee or whatever reason he bumbles. On the other hand Morybundus pack is in good position after that win, they can dictate on what terms Mory will play. He could leave just one Master without a penalization, so it seems to be that IW promised them solid money.
So Toni is surely going to start to step in a negotiation with IW organizers soon. I expect to see in semi Nole and Andy in the same half and Fed/Feru with Mory together.
The organizers will accept everything to attract medias and people to watch it.

I still think he won't play, he just doesn't have the guts to face a loss there before the rest of clay season. There are too many good hard-courters that couldn't wait to wipe the floor with him atm.
But you are right, I can easily see a draw like this : 1st round: Berlocq, 2nd round Nalbandian, 3rd round Anduhar 4th round Ferrer.....

I am also not sure, but the question is rather not if he plays, but for what money. Can you imagine a dispute between Toni's desire for money and Mory's fear from a loss

That is what I think as well. He is supposedly friendly with the IW tournament owner Larry Ellison and I think Nadal saying he is planning on going to IW and playing is a marketing ploy to bump up ticket sales, but, we will see if Nadal will actually go through with playing there or not. Who knows with Nadal what his real intentions are.

Last night in Madison Square Garden, Del Potro beat Nadal in two sets 6:4 7:6.
Judging by the score it looks like it was a hot contested exhibition!
So yes, Nadal DID play on hard courts in March, after all! Will he play in Indian Wells? I still don't think he will. Draw come out tonight, so not too long to wait.

In the other, equally competitive match, Serena beat Azarenka (just to let her know who REAL number one still is!)

I think Rafa will enter. He will be convinced to play by Larry the 4th largest fortune in the world. Doesn't mean he will try hard but he will probably show up.

You seem to be right:
http://espn.go.com/tennis/story/_/id/9014999/rafael-nadal-ready-test-knee-indian-wells-hard-courts
The next thing is to try and predict how many Spaniards and Argentinians he is going to get in his draw. It goes without saying he is falling in Ferrer's quarter (or will he be seeded 4th?).
Delpo on Nadal last night:
"It's amazing how great he's recovered. He's going to be fighting for No. 1 very, very soon,"
Not quite sure Delpo's checked ATP list and that Nole has a near 700 points lead over Nadal and no slam titles to defend till the end of the year.

Watching the replay on ESPN3, looks like a bit of hitting practice with some showmanship. Very similar to Federer-Roddick at the same venue.

Yes...7000!
I can easily see him go on a 2011 style tear again....with more ease as he's got so many things out of his system now and plays with a lot less pressure than in 2012 (or 11).
I really look forward to seeing some good tennis in IW & Miami and hope they, too have sped the courts a bit. After all, Roland Garros has its own 3 Masters 1000 tournaments as an intro, it doesn't need these two as well.
It's getting a bit depressing to watch "shoveling" forehands on hard courts these days doing their safety dance.

Re: Will Nadal play on hard courts in March?
Rafa looked better than I thought he would last night.. Was obviously no stress, but he had no fear in running down drop shots,etc.. I forgot how strange his topspin looks on hard too!!
He's def a "changed" player in the past couple of weeks...
Poor attendance though- over 15000 vs. 20,000 sellout for Fed/Roddick last year (I was there!) .. More proof of who the draw is in the tennis world.

Truffin1, no surprise of poor attendance. People finally got to know that Nadal is a circussish malingerer and his moonballing is worthless to watch. I am sorry for Del Po, perhaps he will choose somebody else next time last year, surely much better choice.

DelPo, Haas, Bellucci and Tsonga played the South American Gillete Tour with Federer.

Nadal may not become number one but I am pretty convinced that Nadal will be a handful for Djokovic this year on all surfaces. Nadal looks very rejuvenated to me and looks like he is hungry again. I have a feeling in my gut Nadal is going to go on a tear.

Re: Will Nadal play on hard courts in March?
I would have laughed at your comment had I not seen him him play since his tournament in Santiago 3 weeks ago...but having seen a glimpse of his match v Alamagro and Ferrerin Acapulco I think there is a chance he will get back to his best....if not improve like they all do at his age.
However I am certain his best will be not be enough to handle the also improved versions of Murray and Djoko and possibly 2 other other top 10. Nadal is simply not talented enough and no matter how fit he is, the others are not as far fitness wise as they used to be.

I must say, I still can't believe he is going to play, despite everything. All I can see is the rested, reprogrammed and fresh beast, nothing else.
