I think Murray is favorite to win. A lot of things has to click for Federer if he wants to win.
Also have to say; after the 2 weeks we had, Murray probably has a better chance to beat Djoko
Again i won't be able to watch so i count on you guys to give me an impression of what's going on

This is where you and i differ Nitb: i don't post what i hope, but what i believe.
I do not particulary like Murray, he's not in my top 10 favorite players, make that 20. I just dislike him less than i dislike Nadal en Djokovic
Gamewise he's less predictable compared with those 2 (i have said that before to Tenez and funnily enough, Fed said today about the same thing). I always thought he could play a better game than his ugly yet succesful game (2006-2011) and since Lendl arrived he finally started to prove it.
To me he's more frank than Djok/Nad. Murray is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get person, Djok and Nad anything but: i don't trust them

Fair enough.
I'll be honest, I go between these two: can't stand him (95% his tennis, arrogance, way he carries on, foul-mouths and moans) and feel sorry for him (5% his tears after big losses, realising all the hard work wasn't enough).
He is what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of guy, but unfortunately that's exactly what turns me off so much
Also, there are so many other players that are million times more interesting to me than Murray: all French players to start with as well as a few others.
As for the "hope" bit, that was more my play with words with Tenez's post. I actually believe Fed will beat Murray, as I've been saying all during this tournament.

Regarding tomorrow's match, the main thing is that Fed withstands a customary set and a half of barrage from Murray. Watching him close in O2 last November, that's how long he can last in his aggressive mode.
That's what Fed did to him in Wimbers, anyway.
I just hope he is fresh and his back rested.
What do you think gives Murray the edge tomorrow?

I've recently seen the semi and final of Wimbledon again and it struck me how much better grass suits Fed's game now compared with HC, especially under a closed roof. Imo it's his only chance for another slam win.

When top 4 are sitting together and discuss the tennis things it is like this:
Morybundus starts talking, even he does not know what he says, Fed agrees and praises him and says you are right. Murray looks at them with open mouth and muses what Fed said and ask Nole what he thinks about them. Nole says, it does not matter, cheer up and open the battle

Another thought.
I noticed with Federer, it's all about motivation these days. If he is motivated he'll bring his A game and that should be enough to beat Murray.
The win tomorrow would bag him and extra 500 points (roughly) that could help keep the distance from number 3 spot, and absorb missing the points form Miami (he is skipping it, I think).
It also gives him the opportunity to level their H2H as it is 10:9 for Murray at the moment.
I don't know if that's enough for him, but it's not to be neglected.

Murray will put a lot of pressure on Feds serve. If Fed can't stroll through his services games, he'll be in trouble

yes, he really comes to life there. I have never played on grass and can't appreciate the full extent of how the ball behaves on it, but from what I can gather, it does seem to like variety, and Fed's bag is full of tricks of all kinds.

Yes, serving will be the key. I noticed against Tsonga he had dips and struggled with the smoothness of the service motion, kind of jerked it a bit, that's the only sign of "ageing" I notice with him. He used to be so deadly and waspish before, now it's still very good, but prone to patches of wobbliness.
Was it in Shanghai that he served out 3 double faults against Murray, that was bad.....

Q. You had a lot of rivalries with a lot of players. What makes the matchup with Murray stand out for you?
"ROGER FEDERER:
Well, I've always enjoyed playing against him. I had some tougher runs against him in a short period of time. I played him in a
few weeks or maybe a month or two I played him three, four times, was on some sort of losing streak, so that was sort of hard.
But I always enjoyed the matchups with him because it gets to be very tactical. Wasn't a straightforward match. He would make you doubt and play very different to the rest of the guys. I kind of always enjoyed that, you know, when it's just not every point's the same. We used to mix it up against each other. Now it's changed a bit because he's playing more offensive. The rallies aren't as long and grueling as they used to be. We both can do that. There were times when we also played against each other in semifinals when Rafa and myself were 1 and 2.
Same as Novak. We played a lot in the semis. My rivalry goes more into the semifinals always with Andy than more in the finals, even tough now at Wimbledon and the Olympics we played in the finals. I think it was nice for us for a change to play in finals against each other."

I am really looking forward for their match. I expect a great fight from Murray and a great aggressivity from Fed. If Fed wants to win it, he will need to force Murray in defence as much as he can. Fed has not had to face longer rallies so far, which he will try to avoid. Fed ´s BH will be attacked as has never been so far.
I see as a decisive point the first set. If Fed wins it, then the match is open for both to win. If Fed loses the first set, then Murray will be a barrier.
Many questions are there, if knowing the answers to the questions I can imagine many scenarios. Here are the most important:
Will Murray play so defensively and focus just to retrieve and allow to play Fed? (it will be crucial)
Will Fed catch up with his SHBH, how much will Fed run around BH?
Will Fed withstand to serve great the whole match?
Will Murray keep his nerves?
Will Fed´s back endure the whole match?
It will be interisting to see Murray in a phase when he struggles. How he can cope with a pressure. Is he enough mentally strong after he won USO? He could be, but we have not seen it.
The crowd will be behind Fed, so that will have also an effect. Who I wish for? Just simple as it is, the better player on the court.

NITB and Paul - Who do you fear most for Djoko ? Murray or Fed? I think you woudl agree that after the semi...win or lose MUrray is likely to be in better shape...so it woudl be better for you to have Federer beating Murray on a close match, knowing Federer will be exhausted for the final.

Both players are difficult: Federer techincally, Murray physically. Federer's variety and inspiration on the night could cause problems, Murray's physicallity can only test but not prevail. Although I think this AO is Nole's, I can' see Fed beating him, but I can't see Murray doing it even more, if it makes any sense.

Tough call, but I go with Fed (but not feeling too confident about it). He will also need to stay focused throughout and try to finish it relatively quickly if he wants to have any chance in the final.
Luckily there were no matches of note last night so I was able to catch up on my sleep and will be ready for the remainder of the tournament

Murray moonballs his CC forehand during a long rally, Fed sends his bread and butter sitter FH out and Murray earns the BP.

Two BPS for Murray, Fed saves first one and....the second one, too but standing 3m behind the baseline moonballs a FH winner and earns a third one, second serve for Fed, saves the 3rd one too.

Murray hits a very heavy ball nowadays. Not so much because he hits looser but simply harder. He is like a wall on wheel.
They were saying that Fed arrived 1h30mn late at his press conf after Tsonga's match to have back treatment.

Yes back good or bad back...it looks like a very different generation playing now. It's a 1970s player versus a 2010s rugby player.
One thing is we do not know too much how Murray can do over 5 sets. He did well at teh USO but that was due to Djoko being even more tired.

Tis very true. Look at Wimbledon. Murray romped the first set and in the 2nd couldn't convert the BP's and Federer pounced like a panther on the opportunity and the rest they say is history.
