Sharapova, Azarenka, Djoko and the italians.
It would boost Federer's mentally and physically if Ferrer were to beat Djoko. Not that it is likely to happen but just saying.

Wow, Li breaks Sharapova in the first game.
Still can't see Li beat her. When it matters, Maria only loses to players that are really better than her.

A scorching day in Melbourne 44 degrees. Appparently, going to get hotter...

Li is actually looking pretty good. Lighter and faster on her feet. Looks ultra-fit. Maria's got her work cut out here, that's for sure.
What needs to happen for AO to close the roof. 44 degrees is a bit hot to play a match of this intensity in.

Sad to see Justine's former coach in the stands, now coaching Li applauding calmly, obviously doing a good job with the new pupil.
But didn't he have some strong chemistry with Henin who fed on it in her matches, those crazy fist-pumps?
I miss her so much

Li bags the first set 6:2. Breaks Maria again, serving for the match. And she is in her second AO final.

Li Na won . Super tennis from Li. Sharapova knows only 1 way to play. Hit hard and hard and hard... Li plays with variety.

Wilander was very critical about the handling of Azarenka's TO. It seems that it was ridiculous timing!
Djoko make to look good thanks to Ferrer's predictable game.

Wilander telling another funny story about the FO 83. He was already qualified for the final and was watching Noah versus Christophe Roger Vasselin (Ed's father). Christophe had beaten McEnroe in teh semi and was overwhelmed by nerves in his semi v Noah. So at change of Ends Noah goes to Christophe and says....c'mon you can do it! you can beat me!....Wilander thinks it was of course a way to destroy Chris's confidence once and for all. He made the parallel when Djoko applauds Ferrer's shots. A kind of well done....you can do it...which he woudl certainly not do if he was under pressure.

Ferrer is never going to beat Djokovic or anyone above him in rankings. This is as far as he can go. His game is limited and only running and those dibly-dobly shots can't beat the like of Djokovic or Fed or Nadal... only Murray on clay is beatable by him.

Djokovic can play left handed and still beat Ferrer in St. sets. Double break Djokoic....
This is where the absence of a formidable player like Nadal has completely thrown the balance of the draw + this years draw has been a dream one for Djokovic.

Who would have thought we would miss him?
I agree about the draw being very strangely unbalanced. Tsonga would have been a much better opponent to Djoko.

Whatever be it, Nadal is undoubtedly a very formidable opponent. I din't miss him in particular, I just miss a player who can at least challenge the top guys in some way. The current field is so sorry, Its hard to believe any of the ones beyond the top-4 can make a move up in the next 3 years.
I just don't see it. But would be glad if it happens.

It puts Harrison's result in perspective. Harrison is a furture top 4 as he did better than Ferrer.

And nitb when the draw came out was saying no one would want to have a player like Ferrer in semis. LOL!!
Honestly, who among the top-3 wouldn't love to have Ferrer instead of Murray.
In fact they may even prefer Ferrer over Tsonga/Berdych/Delpo/Raonic and a a whole lot of other players.

Stan wawrinka? Naah.. Wawrinka never plays a bad game, he will make you earn your win. I can give him that sure. He is very talented and brilliant to watch. But he himself doesn't have the nerve to beat the top guys. He often loses from winning positions.
Almagro?? After he lost of Ferrer under the circumstances? Impossible.

Yep..it's a terrible match cause we know Djoko is playing as well as he is allowed to be...and he is really being allowed to. Even Stepanek was a much tougher opponent.
I find funny to listen to Wilander who clearly doesn't like the retrieving game....he who won 7 slams by moonballing.
He is certainly a much better commentator than he ever was a tennis player.

I need to do some searching, it should be in some earlier topics during the start of AO or when the draw came out.
But do you want to say you didn't say it?

Djokovic won. One of the most one sided semis in a long time. Djokovic had hardly get out of 2nd gear. Ferrer could do nothing .. nothing at alll... as expected.

Ferrer will be a pain to play in the semis, just like Murray. Energy sapping grinder.
To me, the most interesting matches are potential QFs.
Ferrer,
the lowest ranked of the top 4 seeds has the easiest one, I don't know
how that works out, as it's happened in USO as well, but as someone else
said, a good opportunity for a new name to break through in that
quarter.
Ferrer has been in iffy form this season, so we'll have to wait and see.
In my opinion, Murray nad Nole have the toughest QF matches, which is where it really starts to get tough in any draw.
Interesting
thing is how all 3: Nole, Fed and Murray have got the three players
that suit them most in the QF, Fed I'm sure is happy he's got Tsonga
and not Berdych. Nole less so, but Murray, too gets Del Potro who he
handles with ease as opposed to Berdych.
This is all trying to make a cup-cake draw look better. Good try though.

First of all when the draws were announced, these were the projected QF matches:
Murray-Del Potro
Djokovic- Berdych
Federer-Tsonga
Ferrer- Tipsarevic
on what I knew of Del Potro's, Berdych's, Tsonga's and Tipsarevic's pre AO form (and I went of what I saw at the WTF) I drew the conclusion that Del Potro and Berdych were the most dangerous of the 4 players, and expressed frustration that Ferrer , the weakest and lowest ranked of the top 4 gets the lowest ranked and weakest QF opponent for the second time in a row (he had Tipsarevic in USO 2012, too).
It turned out that Tsonga has improved considerably in the off-season and that Del Potro's form dropped.
Now how you read that comment of mine into the one you posted below, I don't know. I don't know why you felt the need to laugh at me either.
