Federer's 2013 schedule Empty Federer's 2013 schedule

Post by raiders_of_the_lost_ark on Wed Nov 21, 2012 11:44 am

Just looked at Federer's schedule for the year 2013.

http://www.rogerfederer.com/en/tennis/schedule/year/2013.html

He is scheduled to play only 14 tournaments next year. Tournaments which he played ( or originally scheduled to play) in 2012 but won't in 2013 are:

1. Doha ATP250.
2. Miami
3. Basel
4. Paris Bercy ( he was scheduled to play but opted out due to fatigue and poor scheduling by ATP )

Is it a good decision?

Ouah....That's the end of of his chance to become world number 1 again. He must stil be completely nackered to agree upon such a schedule.

Well that means it's probably his last (real) year.

He is actually playing Paris in 2013 according to his schedule.

The strange thing however is that he is having a condensed tennis when he plays. Madrid and Rome in succession, FO/Halle/Wimby, Canada/Cincy.....Weird.

Federer's 2013 schedule Empty Re: Federer's 2013 schedule

Post by noleisthebest on Wed Nov 21, 2012 12:32 pm

I've had a look at ATP 2013 schedule, and it's totally ridiculous again:

back to back 1000 events in: Miami/IW, Rome/Madrid and Toronto/Cincy.

Federer's schedule reflects his desire to stay in the top 4 and give himself best pole -position in slams.

It's nice to know that he'll play full European spring/summer circuit (minus Monte Carlo) on "human" surfaces.

I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls out of Asia next year again, or just does a cameo/token appearance like this year.

In his mind he knows he can handle anybody, so it's just down to what he really wants to go for that we'll see him perform his magic

No prizes for guessing what tournament that may be Federer's 2013 schedule 3222666861

Yes It looks like he wants to cut on the travelling far from Europe. By picking Rotterdham, Dubai, IW over others he is saying if you want to see me make the courts fast. I think he is leaving some other tournaments open to see maybe how they affect the conds.

IMO Federer woudl probably play a full schedule if it was fast conds with less than 4-shot rallies. The problem is when one had to run a marathon to win. Too much trouble when you are 31/32.

True. Playing at 31 in this era/conditions is like playing at 41 in Aggassi's.

1. Doha ATP250.
2. Miami
3. Basel
4. Paris Bercy ( he was scheduled to play but opted out due to fatigue and poor scheduling by ATP )

Is it a good decision?

Let's not forget that now that he's 31 at the start of 2013, he follows all three conditions specified by the ATP that allow a player to skip any master he wants. So Fed has no constraint whatsoever. He might decide to skip Canada too and it wouldn't be a bad idea I think.

Now that he beat Sampras's record for weeks at #1, I don't think it is a concern for him whether or not he comes back to #1 ever again. 302 weeks is a huge number, meaning the current crop isn't likely to get there as the one with the most weeks after Fed needs to add the double of what he already has... Also, now that Nole won the WTF and Fed didn't get the full 3,000 pts from year end that he could otherwise carry over for a long time in 2013, he is not likely to get back to #1 in 2013 and thus not likely to do it ever again.

So IMHO, he'd better just focus on the slams as he still has a chance to add a couple, by optimally choosing what masters to attend as prep. Obviously he can also keep all fast indoor tournaments he wants to play for "fun" or to make a point that as long as it's a fast court he'll be playing and help the tournament make money. By the way, Fed could "force" ATP to make courts faster by just refusing to play any non-fast (non-clay) tournament as a tournament without Fed will most likely not be as attended as when he's in, he could even give his reasons why out loud. But maybe he doesn't want to seem like a prima donna (a la I won't name him Federer's 2013 schedule 1071211947).

So I think it is a good decision from Fed to pick and choose the tournaments he wants to bother showing up to as he doesn't need the money and doesn't have to go as a rule. My question to you guys would then be, if you were Fed (yes, you wish Federer's 2013 schedule 3763815904), how would you schedule your 2013. My answer would be:

1. AO
2. Rotterdam
3. Dubai
4. IW
5. Madrid
6. Rome
7. FO
8. Halle
9. Wimbledon (so far he and I are in sync)
10. Cincinatti
11. USO
12. Paris
13. WTF (13 tournaments for 2013 Federer's 2013 schedule 650269930)

On that point I think I disagree a bit. The buzz of being number 1 is greater than having been the longest number 1. It's too different things of course but though records are with you for ever....they are just "with you" whereas when you are number 1 the world carries you and you have the world focused on you.

Imo he is a bit tired now and he knows how tough it was to regain that number one spot. He ll probably try to stay with the top players and if another opportunity arises then he might double the effort but I don;t think he will kill himself for it as he did this year and as you say slams would be the main focus.

Federer's 2013 schedule Empty Re: Federer's 2013 schedule

Post by noleisthebest on Fri Nov 23, 2012 9:28 am

Interesting that Abu Dhabi exo organisers (main sponsor being IMG, who Federer finished contract with earlier this year) have not invited Federer (whotook part last 4 years) this year:

“He is very dear to us, and I mean that very seriously. But the celebration of champions and the youth of the ATP, which we have in spades here with arguably the six hottest young players in the game, was our aim from the outset. These guys have more Grand Slam victories ahead of them rather than behind them. I think much of the feedback we were getting, people wanted to have Andy Murray. They wanted him to come back, He’s had such an incredible summer and year overall. Andy’s back and we’re thrilled with that. “There is a very strong UK demographic here in the UAE. People were asking for Andy and so we wanted to deliver on that.
Novak is defending champion, so it makes sense for him to come
back, while Rafa has been out of the picture with a knee injury for so
long so he is looking to make a statement in Abu Dhabi.”

Talk about sour grapes....

Well at the end it was down to a big cheque and Federer may have priced himself out. I am sure he wants to have a proper Xmas and NY Eve with family. No Exho woudl want to refuse Federer at the end of his career. The coming year(s) is/are going to be the most popular for him as they realise they won't see him again.

I think Fed will play DC this coming year as well. He is the best player and the best hope for the swiss team. But lets see, his DC commitments did take a toll on this this year.

Even out of this reduced list, I think he is likely to skip even Shanghai.

From tennis.com

"That’s what it seems to mean to Roger Federer these days. His 2013
playing schedule, which he released last week, is similar to last
season’s, with two exceptions: He won’t play at a pair of events run by
his former agency, IMG—the Abu Dhabi exo at the end of December, and the
Sony Open in Key Biscayne. I guess that makes limiting your commitments
a little easier"

That explains everything....I never realised IMG owned Miami, as well....
Obviously no love lost there, and the parting can't have been that friendly...

Yes but he is not playing Canada either...are they IMG too? Yes he keeps his cards close to his chest. IMG must have given access to many sponsors. Why would he have wanted to drop them...or the other way around....why would they want to drop him at a time he is going to be more popular than ever even if not as successful? Probably too greedy?

My only guess is that somebody's ego must have been seriously bruised.
I don't remember details about why he left IMG, but I think it was something to do with Federer's PR manager leaving IMG for some dodgy reasons.

It will be interesting to see if and what Miami say about Federer not participating, Dubai organisers came up with a really plausible excuse: they wanted champions with slams ahead, not behind them...i.e. people there want to see Murray more than Federer.
Forget about the fact that Murray dumped Dubai 2 years ago last minute and they said they weren't going to invite him again Federer's 2013 schedule 2786941968

Federer's 2013 schedule Empty Re: Federer's 2013 schedule

Behind every successful man.....

"

Roger Federer praises his longtime partner and now wife, former player Mirka Vavrinec, for helping him throughout his career.

“I love my role as a father and in a few years, when I devote full timeto our twin daughters, really look for what every parent wants their children: to educate them,” Federer told La Nacion. “Mirka always helped me, she’s great company. When I met her, I had no titles and now I have 76, so look at what has happened. She comes with me
everywhere and her role has been very important to me and she loves to watch me play. Now, life has changed since the birth of our daughters, but we try to make it compatible with my career. She always accompanies me when she can and I think I would have retired if she did not like to accompany me. But ultimately, I live quietly. I’m very normal.”

Federer also said that if he stays healthy, Juan Martin del Potro will be an even bigger threat in 2013.

“I think your goal should be, at least to try and reach a top 4 or 5 ranking,” Federer said. “Juan Martin was playing very well this year. I hope he can maintain that level in 2013 and be more comfortable physically, and not get injured. Because unfortunately he was hurt a long time. He can fight for No. 1. I played against him many times this
year, and they were very difficult matches, exciting.”

Very interesting comment about his retirement.....Thank you Mirka Federer's 2013 schedule 2774444739

Good words from Federer. Mirka was always a very important person in Fed's life and its nice to see him acknowledge it.

About Delpo, smiley . Well its good to see he expects big things from him. I'm not sure how convinced he is about Delpo's 2013. It depends on what question was asked to him. Anyway what else could he say for a much younger opponent who is looking to make his mark. I think he would say about the same for any young upcoming player be it Dimitrov, JJ or Raonic or Delpo. Delpo gets more such words because his Resume has a slam, which of course is very important.

I've not changed my views on Delpo still. He is looking good, but he always does at times. He can be very frustrating. Unless he begins to beat the one's above him and convincingly, my view about him won't change.

So lets see tennisball

I see Delpo as a one-off tournament player. His body frame does not give any promissing hope to move on the ranking higher. Nole and Andy are both out of his reach and still the same re Fed and we will see how Morybundus legs will look like. Ferru is too consistent in his game to release his place to Delpo. I am with Ferru staying ahead of Delpo on rankings for the next year.

I have had the same thoughts for a long time, but think that Delpo has matured, panics less and that his game has filled-out and looks better. Here an article from 2007 about Delpo Federer's 2013 schedule 1071211947
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A57226836

I am not expecting him to dominate and become a number one, but to start playing slam SFs and QFs regularly and move up the ranking, and def. start winning more.

I saw Ferrer convincingly beating Delpo. I saw Berdych convincingly beating Fed in USopen. I saw Fed beating Murray convincingly.

Now since you have brought out Djokovic, perhaps he is the only one who hasn't beaten any top player convincingly this whole year. Maybe Murray in Miami is the only closest one where he won convincingly. He gathered enough points for his #1, but was hardly a dominant player.

Thats why when you who is my fav for AO2013, I couldn't pick anyone. This is how this year has been : distributed.

This 2009 was the year of Delpo, nice article

Yes, more experienced Delpo has a potential to play SF regulary, but he is a kind of fragile player. He is not as hardworking as he should be, his legs / stamina are not the same as the top players ones. Just he is not built for consistency.

He is comparable to Berd, also as tall with great hitting even better than Berd. But Berd improved his consistency and stamina and is not so prone to injuries. Delpo is able to win something big but then he will lose in the 1st round.

Czech player Korda was similar kind of player with propensity to injuries. He was famous of an excellent technical game. When he was around 30, he was failing a drug test and finished his career. Just some players have a great game, but their bodies do not help them to reach the top. Btw. Korda also won one GS in AO. Quite similarity so far.

Korda was one of my favourite player....before and after his failed drug test. Great technique as you say....and timing. Huge talent.

My fav players have often been unpopular talented players:

Medvedev, Rios, Lendl, Krishnan, Nalbandian...I liked some popular ones as well but in the 90s I was very much going for the underdogs as I was no fan of Pete and Agassi. THat was a bad decade for me. It got much better on the 00s when Goran started the decade with a bang at Wimbledon 01.

He can not change anything in his game. If he put on his weight, he is finished even on clay. I am convinced that that Morybundus´s times are already behind him. New or old, it does not matter, he needs to get another shower Federer's 2013 schedule 1071211947

You never know, he may come back RIGHT-handed, serving and volleying... Uncle Toni is a miracle maker Federer's 2013 schedule 123628122!

Federer's 2013 schedule 4006036031 hm, that is right, now I see how I underrated Toni´s miracle invention.

But not many possibilities left for miraculous Tony, now one hit me. He could start to shriek as a mixture of Shara and Azarenka when he is standing 8 metres behind the BL in order to assure the crowds that he is still on the court.

Federer's 2013 schedule 2033450363

you never know....maybe the REAL reason he left the players' council in March was not that he couldn't push through the 2 year ranking system, but that ATP didn't want to rebuild all courts in order to make a football -pitch size tennis courts with an olympic track around on which Nadal could show his running talents in full glory!

Yes Ten, the 2001 is unforgettable year from the reason of great Wimbledon. The semi between Patrick Rafter and Agassi is my best match from this era for sure. Goran used a magical potion for finding his serve then.

Korda was a great to watch, but not my favorite, a typical smuggy player from this era. Therefore I liked Lendl who could beat Mac and Connors, these "crazy" neurotical clowns. When appeared Pete, everyone had to admire his net game, but he was a kind of reserved player without any court gestures. There was no fun with him on court, to see him for or two hours was quite enough. Since the 2000 I liked Safin, who played turbo bashing and quite cool guy. My fav player is David Nalbandian, he has the great feel for the game and cool and brave approach although he could do more for success. Delpo is also a nice tennis character, also Robin Soderling and Stanislav Wawrinka. Above all of them is Nole for sureFederer's 2013 schedule 151447854

Completely agree. He cannot change anything. The question also is how are they going to implement the time between point rule in 2013? How serious are they about it? Cause if they are we can good bye to thsose 30+shot rallies....no drug will be able to sustain those kind of rallies within 20s.

Exactly, I am curious about keeping that rule in reality 2013. I do think that Nadal´s game is going to fall apart under the strict keeping of this rule.

Absolutely, it would be interisting to hear something as Fed´s response. I am not sure that this kind of joke is common between them.

Federer has probably had enough of it...you can just imagine having to look at Toni&co almost every day for the last 10 years...
Him smiling at you with his lips, but his slitty eyes' real thoughts keeping you on edge...

To me, it's fascinating how they carry on like that alongside each other, I suppose it's like any office scenario, you have to put up with each other...

His sweetest response would be to actually OUTLAST Nadal on the tour.

Paulcz and noley,

He was trying to legitimize the injury excuse with the name of Fed and Djoko. He doesn’t
realize how dishonest and dumb he sounds going on and on trying to justify nadal’s
injuries. You either win or lose in sports. You can’t legitimize injury. No wonder nadal is where he is.

Toni: it’s impossible to dope in tennis…

Is it? Nadal's camp really take people to be ignorant morons who would buy whatever crap they sprout. Mr. Toni doesn't know that it wasn't even impossible to dope and win 7 consecutive TDFs in cycling where the anti-doping regime is miles far better compared to tennis. And its impossible to dope in tennis?? Another attempt to create an illusion of "clean sport" and hide Nadal's doping.

Toni: "I hope now Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will get injured"

This Toni is a bucket of crap. He is so desperate now, he just can't hide his true colors. Wishing for someone's injury isn't a matter of joke. Let me make a joke a wish the whole Nadal camp dies in a plane crash. How funny is that?
