Some more "stars" are possibly going to be expsed as drug cheats. Operación Puerto reopens

"The Leader has been told their names will be revealed as a result of another long-running investigation into doping, separate to the USADA investigation which caught seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong and members of his former US Postal cycling team.

A total of 190 sportsmen of interest are now involved, with only 35 being cyclists.

Authorities are confident evidence can now be presented on some of the world’s top sportsmen — including football and tennis stars and well-known track athletes — after Spain’s long-running Operation Puerto finally goes to court in January, nearly seven years after the case started."

http://www.theleader.com.au/story/503615/stars-to-be-named-as-drug-cheats/?cs=1633

I'm not sure how will this end, but lets see. Will Spanish authorities try to keep this under cover like it had been earlier?

Makes me feel a lot more optimistic,I wasnt really expecting the trial to result in much but hearing that the same people who were behind exposing L.A are also doing a separate investigation,I believe that significantly reduces the chances of any cover up
It will be interesting to have 2 separate investigations as reference and also to see the difference between them.

@ Laverfan...remember I couldnt find a link about Operation Galgo, this pretty much confirms it cause Spanish officials claimed that only cyclists were involved in the Peurto scandal,it was later exposed as a lie through operation Galgo

Im finding it hard to believe they will be naming and shaming that many athletes,I guess I will only believe it when
i see it

Out of the 65 tennis players listed as testing positive, you have to go
back to 1995 to find a big-name male player (Mats Wilander) and 2007 for a top
female (Martina Hingis) — and both tested positive for cocaine.

Very much in contrast with how tennis has evolved the last 10 years..

If this gets really big then Federer might extend his indian summer a little longer Operación Puerto doping case 4006036031

What are you trying to say? Do you think Federer is linked to the Peurto scandal? If thats what youre implying I like to know why you think that?

No I don;t think this is what GP insinuates. He is saying that if tennis gets tough on drugs then he may have a longer life at the top.

I personally do not believe much will be reveiled in this case cause 190 athletes represent roughly a huge chunck of teh sport industry..that means $$Billions....However most of those athletes might not sell as much as they did in 2006 so maybe this is why they might not mind as much releasing the names now.

No, i think it will boost Federers motivation if a few topplayers will get caught. Surely he will be shocked with it but I think the competition opens up for him if it happens.

...unless Federer is part of that list of course! IN 2003 he realised he could not rally with most athletes at teh top including Hewitt. He says he worked very hard to get fit and since has been able to rally with Hewitt and Nalbandian etc...who he used to lose to cause felt he had to pull the trigger too early. So his sudden invicibility from 2003 could possibly be attribute to EPO ...as much as just "hard work" (his version).

Regardless I know that skill wise and technically he is the best so assuming all players were clean he woudl have never needed to take EPO in the first place....if ever he took some.

PS...that answers Amri's last post.

He will definitely benefit from one of the top players being caught up in such scandal,it will make him look so much greater for having achieved everything he did while his rival used drugs and still couldnt come close to touching his achievements

If this article holds any weight there then is a very realistic chance Nadals world could come crashing down, what happens then?
Do they strip him if all his titles?

No he wont benefit if he is a doper and is caught. In all likelihood if Federer is doping, then he wouldnt hope anyone else is caught doping cause if the sport goes through some kind of crusade to clean it up,then its could be him who is exposed next

Everything is possible. In 2006 Federer was extremely fit (the rome weekend, what was it, 11 hours gruelling clay court tennis in 3 days) and i don't think i've seen him that fit ever since. The rusty back is a logical explanation though.
But still, Fed was a very lazy youngster, he never had to work hard, until he ran into Hewitt...To me it simply was a matter of finally becoming a real pro, in terms of practice hours. The odds are not against him on this matter, that's for sure

I agree. But even if he did I am pretty sure it was to keep with some and not to gain an unfair advantage. No different to Djoko and Murray starting to take time between points...though now that Nadal is out they have no excuse anylonger.

By the way, IF Nadal is caught, is he stripped of all his titles a la LA? And then, is the finalist getting them?

In which case Fed would have 23 slams, 2 calendar Grand Slams in a row (and actually 10 slams in a row), at least 5 of each slams (only W would be 8), and so many masters! Plus the count of number of weeks at number 1 would be so big, it would even be something like 331 in a row as a conservative number! Quite hard to imagine... Operación Puerto doping case 650269930
