OMG, we said exactly the same words, SUCH A JOY TO WATCH.

Not so much laziness but selective hits, I think. Old dog knows what he's doing.

Old dog new tricks?

Well it seems the rest of the field need something new to compete with veteran. Can't wait for the highlights.

Let us see what Delpo can do.

Delpo could be easy meat for Ferrer. Their last 2 meetings have been horribly one sided.

WORLD TOUR FINALS 2012, London - Page 4 2033450363 Old dog and new tricks are not normally a productive mix. But RF in tennis is an exceptional case. He's never too old to learn. Even plays more steadied BH now then just a year ago. The rest of the field can catch him without even anything new if Roger is not in top form. He looks good today but who knows when the competition goes up a level or two in the later stages.

Brilliant preview of tomorrow's Novak Murray match from S. Tignor:

"On the one hand, we should have a good idea what we’re going to get in
this, the most marquee of all of this year’s round-robin matches.
Djokovic and Murray have played six times already in 2012. We can guess
from those contests that we’ll see long, tiring, sometimes brilliant
rallies. We’ll see multiple shifts in momentum. We’ll each player
(Murray especially) swivel between the passive and the aggressive. We’ll
see seemingly impossible defensive maneuvers that drive the other
player into a blind rage. And we’ll see much frustration vented, and
energy spent, before all is said and done.

On the other hand, while we have an idea of what the process will be
like, we don’t have a clue as to the result. Muzz and the Djoker have
split their six 2012 matches 3-3. Each has won a five-setter at a Grand
Slam, and each has handed the other a quick straight-set defeat along
the way. You won’t get far going on form, either: Each fought their way
through difficult, sometimes scratchy opening matches. As for
motivation, neither lacks for it. Djokovic is looking to end his second
No. 1 season on a better note than the first, while Murray is looking
for his second title at his third hometown tournament of 2012. Each man
looked exceptionally fired up in their Monday matches. The conditions?
They won’t tell you much. Unless I’ve forgotten and the roof was closed
for their Aussie semi this year, the two have never played indoors.

So let’s skip the predictions for the moment and move on to the match’s
potential significance. While it is “just” a round-robin encounter,
there’s a sense that these two are reaching a critical stage in their
rivalry—Murray, in other words, is beginning to challenge the
higher-ranked Djokovic. He beat him at the Open, and he held match
points when they met in Shanghai last month. They’re sure to meet in
important situations, maybe Grand Slam final situations, next year, and
this one could set the tone."

That's why perhaps what may work in Delpo's favour, but only up to extending the match. A fresh Ferrer is a nightmare opponent for Delpo.

Federer's unwillingness to
a. patiently rally with Del Potro and expose his lack of movement, and,
b. chase balls down and make DelPo hit extra shots.

Ferrer patiently ground Del Potro into dust.

Del Potro may just end up with one win in the RR stage against Tipsarevic.

DelPo came back from 4-1 down to 4-4, but just crumbled in the last game with Ferrer. The inside-out FH made DelPo miserable and what he could return was dispatched post-haste to the FH corner of DelPo.

“It was a really tough match, [it] was very close [and] we had very good rallies,” said Ferrer. “I'm very happy with my game. Maybe this year, I am playing more aggressive with my shots. I am going to the net more to finish the points.

http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2012/11/45/London-Finale-Tuesday-del-Potro-Ferrer.aspx

He played very well against Dodig and Dolgopolov in Valencia as well.

Watch the fifth game against Janowicz in the second set in Paris at deuce with Ferrer serving. Ferrer was relentless in putting the ball back in play for 20 shot rally. Janowicz had 18 FH UEs at that point.

Federer has the variety to beat Ferrer, that Del Po lacks, but it will be a tough match. I expect two close sets in Federer-Ferrer or even a 3-setter.

Till Paris, Djokovic is 70-12, Ferrer is 72-14, Federer is 68-10, Murray is 54-14.

Delpo is the weakest server among all the tall big players. He doesn't get enough aces ( heck Tipsarvic has hit more aces than him this year ). He doesn't get enough first serve points won ( Tipsy beating him even here ). His serving is very poor for someone his size.

His road to #1 is never going to be a reality till Ferrer is playing. Anyone who is prepared to rally with him will always be able to grind him into powder.

Very true. Just that I'd thought Federer would have had more weapons to make Delpo run than Ferrer but that is not enough.

As mentioned many times being in the trameline retrieving a shot gives an opportunity to find angles and make your opponent run, therefore turning defense into - if not attack, more running. This is the main advantage of Ferrer who will bother doing the running standing further back unlike Federer holding the center and baseline closely.

If Fed plays as well as yesterday I think it might be an easy straight set win for Fed. Especially since I expect Ferrer to tire a bit.

-----------
Fed at times has stubbornness issues when it comes to rallying with players. He doesn't back down into defence easily. It's an ego issue I think. On the other hand guys like Ferrer know and play within their limits. For them a point won is a point won no matter how it comes.

I hope he wins and it does not last more than 3 hours.
The good thing is when you watch a match live it goes much faster than on TV; it must be the absence of close-ups that are emotionally and mentally quite engaging.

Let me try some hand at predicting today's results:

1. Djokovic vs Murray.

Djokovic might just edge it with a skin of the teeth, like he did in Shanghai. Its likely going to be a loooooong match with lots of BPs and breaks.

2. Berdych vs Tsonga:

Well I'm taking Berdy to win this one. Tsonga looks in tatters right now. He is always hurried into going for those suicidal winners. Maybe he isn't even 100% fit. Tsonga perhaps won't win a match or even a set this WTF.

Yes Fed might make it to the final but it's not sure as he may have to play Djoko or Murray in the semi. I must say Fed played very well yeterday but we know that if you send a few long rallies in, he will lose his edge and be beaten in 3 if not earlier. He has not done very well of late against Murray.

From Murray:

"Whether me and Novak would replace anything Roger and Rafa have done, I think that's a long way off," said Murray.

"But I think some of the matches we've had this year were high quality, fun to watch, and I'm all for playing more of those matches if I can."

I agree with his first sentence....not sure about the second one though to be fair I enjoyed the drama of it...the tennis...not quite.

What's a bit ridiculous with this tennis is that teh length of the ball is very short due to heavy spin but it is hit with such power it's as effecient a deep well placed shot. Exactly like Nadal in 2010.

Djoko is playing well. Murray is probably better with a new pair of legs but quickly his mouvement lets him down.

For years I thought Murray often injured himself on the court but what happens is that his legs are huge and doing a huge work oh moving a 6'3 player like it was Ferrer so after a set or 2 I assume his legs muscles accumulte lactic acid and has small cramping and certainly do not respond like in the beginning of a match.

It's very clear that Murray USO's win was hugely helped by Djoko having to play the day before cause I think a well tuned Djoko woudl have tired Murray more than the other way around. Of course the wind also helped there.

But it's clear today that when Djoko gets his game going it is simply more aggressive and efficient than Murrays.
