To the worthy 2012 DC winners, one of my favourite pieces of music, composed by a Czech, of course
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15RuBxyJ3qk
A beautiful piece to end this memorable tennis 2012

Only Lopez smiles for silver, runner-up is not so bad
Very happy for Rosol The Great
We must never forget his fantastic contribution to tennis this year, after all his win knocked Nadal out of both ATP tour AND Davis Cup
Yes, Rosol has also credit and left morybundus at home, which helped a lot

Very pleased Step clinched it. We had a league match today so could not see any of it but on the car back home I was telling my doubles partners that I was more confident in Step winning v Almagro than Berdych v Ferrer...they of course disagreed. Glad to see that once again I was right.

Thanks Ten, you were totally right
To be honest I was really confident for StepĀ“s win only he won his serves 5:2. I remember some of his 5 setters when he played well and in the 5th he choked. But today Step played his best match. Almagro is not the right choice for such matches.
The tennis experts said that Berd had been too tired from two previous days to outplay Ferru and I am not sure if the surface was the best choice for Berd. But for Step it was and that was the key for DC.

That's a point I made earlier. Berdych has not got quick hands, it does well on slower courts when he has time to aim and pull. He did ok v Almagro but lost too much energy there. Berdych can hit through slow courts..that's his strength.....not that he woudl have won v Ferrer but it may have been closer.
At teh end it turned out to be good cause fast pace certainly helped the most talented of them all...STEPANEK!!!

Quite agree. Not only hands, but all his body. Berd plays heavy groundstrokes from both sides, but he needs to take the position. If he does not have enough time, then he can not play his game.
Many people were surprised already with Almagro, how tough that was for Berd. If Almagro was not a hothead he had a real chance. I expected better serve from Berd and more clever positioning of his ball. He should change the positioning pattern sometimes.
I was very surprised how aggressive tennis Ferru showed with Berd. Great servis and balls so close to lines with his perfect move. Berdych said, I had been pulled on ropes by Ferru, only player I can compare him in this part of season is Nole, again

Yes, that's what I meant by the need to "aim and pull". He needs that extra split second. .paulcz wrote:

Yes Ferrer is finally learning to play tennis....and on top his physique is as good as ever. If he can stay as fit he should have another good year.I was very surprised how aggressive tennis Ferru showed with Berd. Great servis and balls so close to lines with his perfect move. Internet down at home since 5 days, and how I feel grounded without it . Only accessing internet from workplace. Couldn't watch a moment of the Davis Cup final, but glad to see the news of Czech winning. Stepanek did it for them, good to see him making it.
For the Czech davis cup team.
