A Bold Prediction For 2019
Nole to win all 4 slams.
Despite the rigged draws etc.
Because he is a Serb and he can.
You heard it here first.

lol.
Happy New Year!
A bold but realistic prediction:
Not a single 2019 slam won by the big 3.

Bold predictions:

2 or more Slam winners to retire (mens side)
4 new Masters 1000 winners
2 new teenage winners of ATP tour titles

Actually he could do it if he were to have a light clay season beforehand. Skipping Milan at least or losing early. But seriously, I think he won;t even win a 1000s on clay. Too many good and fresh players out there.

I think there will be stronger opposition on the Clay this year. Also Djokovic could find himself in Nadal's half which could make it interesting.

Re: A Bold Prediction For 2019
Shame Nitb did not combine this with the longish post on "Time to go".
2019 starts rather as 2017 and 2018 - waiting to see whether the Big 4, or their remnants, can stem what should be a rising tide but, thus far, never quite seems to be that.
It's v. difficult to look beyond Djoko for a couple of slams - starting with his favourite Oz. Clay looks like a big unknown, but the years have shown that Nadal's relative travails on the hard stuff and endless reports of injuries and niggles here and there tend not to translate into his clay season. It's also worth reflecting that he was probably the second best competitor at Wimbledon last year. I think Federer may go deep in a couple of slams but I can't see him adding to his tally of 20 unless a draw falls open at either Oz or Wimbledon. Murray must be a busted flush as far as slams or Masters are concerned.
I think that there'll be one, possibly two, slams won outside the Big 4 - most likely the USO, which has been the most unpredictable slam over recent years.

Re: A Bold Prediction For 2019
I am encouraged that Federer appeared fit recently; at the faster Australian Open he has a shot, draw depending of course - it would be nice to see Nole with Zverev and Rafa.
For the umpteenth year shall we predict a breakthrough for a next generation player? I mean, it's got to happen one year, even though they will probably be >30 by the time it happens and squeaking past a 40+ year old member of the top table.
Go on, Federer to win 1. I think that counts as bold in the context of things, and considering how fed up I was after the O2.

Re: A Bold Prediction For 2019
Federer played well in his Hopman cup matches, in particular against Zverev. I believe his poor performances in the middle of 2018 were due to wrist injury, he spoke about how he had just recovered from a wrist injury in Basel. After that he did play better, but lacked confidence at times.
The start to 2019 may be key in building confidence. In any Slam match against Djokovic you'd have to give Nole the edge simply because it's best of 5.
