Interesting to compare Fed at this kind of tournament at this kind of stage against Bellucci kind of player compared to,say, similar scenario 7 years ago.

It used to be first serve in and a max 2 more shots from him. He's really become a base-liner these days.

As a result, he is utilising his backhand a lot more, which I don't mind sighing over in the least, still....I miss the all-court Fed.

3rd set. Don't mind at all.
This Bellucci guy really whacks the ball hard. And safe.

S&V from Fed at 30-love...better late then never !

Bellucci is a really good player but has jittery nerves. How many matches has he dropped just because of those nerves. This Sunday he twice for the championship but just couldn't hold on and give those away with self destructing errors. He was serving brilliant against Fed, but just lost it in important points.

Delpo won. Baker couldn't handle the bullets Delpo was firing. He is looking fit and strong. Good signs.

Post by noleisthebest on Thu Oct 25, 2012 10:03 pm

Due to a million and one things I had to do today, I could not see any tennis today, so not going to go anywhere tomorrow
And what a sumptuous day lies ahead!

In Basel starting at 1PM UK time:
Youzhny - Gasquet (really look forward to this one, two mighty, attacking SBHs, can't wait!)
Anderson - Del Potro (two giraffes at it again!)
PH Mathieu - Dimitrov and last but not the least :
7 PM
Federer -Paire

In Valencia:
Goffin - Melzer
Dolgopolov - Granollers (could it have been any more opposite in terms of anything tennis!?)
Ferrer - Almagro
Dodig - Cilic

Had some good scalps at Delray Beach being a qualifier and lost the final to Anderson. Almost took out Cilic @USO. Did not play too badly against Anderson till the third set.

Delpo beats Anderson 6:1 in the 3rd set, coming back from a set down and winning the secong set in a tie-break. Fine line...and always surprising but not surprising when a player collapses after losing a TB, having been on a verge of winning the match.

Over in Valencia, there is justice: Dolgo thrashes Granollers, anything else would've been a crime against tennis.
Ferrer grinds Almagro in straights and Melzer narrowly edges Goffin.

Mathieu Dimitrov next in Basel.

Is Gasquet back in the top 10 on Monday? Looks like it. With Monaco losing 300pt or so, Gasquet gaining 180 minimum? He should jump 3 places up.

Those empty seats in Basel are a good reminder on how important are the big names in sport and why TDs are ready to go a great length and bend the rules to retain them.

who can unravel the mysteries of ATP rankings these days....commentators were talking about the imporantce of him having a good run in Bercy in order to qualify for London.
That should mean top 10.

Dimi doing well against Mathieu. A SF in Basel would be good for his confidence.

Dimitrov's footwork needs a bit of work, he's moving like a much taller guy....and letting HP back into the match, plus he really hits that BH with very little confidence a lot of times.

Paire never showed up, IMVHO. Disappointing. Could have played better.

PS: PHM may put up a better match compared to Paire.
