Oh well. Did not see this coming. Losing a match after having a MP in the third. What a disaster.

Ah well, this was embarrassing, but well deserved for Kev.

Age sinking in Fed's mind now.

He skipped the clay season and still looked knackered.

Hard to see him adding more slams

Damn - that's a shame not least because the chances of Anderson doing anything worthwhile with it are limited - he beat a poor Fed.

I spent the last two years hoping that Nole was done.  Time to revisit.  I am now hoping he will be back to his best ASAP.

That has to be the worst Federer performance I've ever seen - shockingly bad in those last three sets.

Not all that surprised really. Looked rubbish at Halle and Stuttgart with his serve getting broken a million times on fast grass.

I suppose we’ll always ask whether a demoralising defeat like this will be the last.

It would be sad for him to go out like that, and not on Centre.

I’ve had to turn off, Castle talking crap about how Federer didn’t lose this, Anderson took the racquet out of his hands. Ffs Federer could put two balls in court for 2 sets!,

Fed will not have (m)any opportunities as good as this was.  He had an easy draw early on and QF/SF did not look too bad on paper.  He got to QF without breaking sweat, and still collapsed there.

I have not seen it, so cannot tell how well Kev was playing, but this now feels like Fed's end is here.

well, didnt expect that, specially after first set

Well done Anderson

And federer, ... well now we will have to see what happens the rest of the year... but this result has a big impact in the year end number one

federer is the greatest, but this things can happen. I just hope we get to see him here again next year

he is no doubt the best to watch and enjoy, so if he loses, we all lose a little

as for the tournament, nadal, delpo or djokovic seem more favourite now

hope it is nadal

Yup, and he's had a few - Tsonga 2010, Stahhovsky 2013, Raonic 2016 - the last two had a fairly terminal feeling about them and he proved us wrong, but the question does not feel foolish less than a month from his 37th birthday.

Meanwhile, watching Nadal vs. del Potro I am reminded firmly of how much I dislike Nadal's on-court persona.

Maybe it's the acoustics, but I think that the ball was being hit harder in the Fed/Anderson match.

And why does Nadal have to make those bloody stupid grunting noise?

Big guts for Kev and in fairness a deserved winner.

Agree with Emanic though. Federer hasn't looked convincing enough on Grass this year and for whatever reason has seemed much more agitated on court.

I am sure some will mark this down as another victory to tiredness. A H2H he'll never reverse.

Delpo does have this rather unusual knack of looking down and out in matches and yet pulls a victory from nowhere. Hope that blesses him in this TB.

Not the last match - if it's a 'last' it is more likey to be the last Slam entered as a true contender

I agree - this year would need to go out with a whimper or an injury for Fed to consider retiring, and he's pretty much said he'll be back on tour next year.

Really disappointed with Fed's loss. I could only follow the scores at work and didn't get to watch the match. Thought it would be straight forward, even after losing a set.

Hopefully the US open plays as it should and he can win there.

Wrt the slam race, tbh Fed needs at least 4-5 more to be sure to end up ahead. I think Nadal can win that many more French opens alone.

You never really know - Nadal is so up and down with injuries, but the way he ripped through the clay this year suggests that a cushion of 3 is vulnerable.

It seems as if he's more durable now than ever before and all the new generations of players are useless. I wouldn't even take them to stop him in a US open that is playing at normal speed. I can see Nadal playing as long as Fed and probably end up having similar or greater success; his body seems built for physical tennis.

Yes - Fed's demise is doubly annoying because the field does not feel particularly strong this year.

No - if you say the person that you favour is in control, that's a jinx, if you say the person you want to lose is in control then you are just expectation managing, or trying to create a jinx, and it doesn't work.

Wow - del Potro was on absolute fire that set.  He's great to watch when he's hitting clean like that.  Go back 50mins ago and Nadal was 6-3 in the tie-breaker, now he's 1-2 down.  What a match this is.
