Wimbledon Day 3
The order of play on court 1 is terrible. I really don;t see the point. Venus, Wosniaki and Cilic....

You’re going aren’t you? That’s not the greatest I agree. Venus - urgh, Caroline, well...... and Cilic .... try to put him off could you? Maybe sneak off to Court 15 to see Karlovic. Or perhaps not.
Hope you’ve packed your sun cream.

That's the thing....the only decent match (Cilic's) might be constantly interrupted by rain.bogbrush wrote:You’re going aren’t you? That’s not the greatest I agree. I remember once I had CC tickets but spent my time on court 18 watching the beginning (that is the first 37 games) of 5th set between Mahut and Isner....Not exciting but at least I got a bit of history.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
I am afraid that Wimbledon looks to have caught 'metooitis' and is cocking up the schedule of the show courts - they'll have the debenture-holders on their heads if they carry on like this. Nobody would pay good money for the fare on CC and No. 1 today.

If it makes you feel better, Larry Ellison is in CC.

Surely you mean that this is an historic day https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/jul/04/wimbledon-historic-day-as-more-womens-matches-than-mens-on-show-courts
Federer giving the CC crowd a brief respite from screeching mediocrity in a pretty boring match chuntering along in a pretty low gear.

Jesus, that was incredible. Sheer, pure virtuosity. At least, the last two sets were (didn’t see the 1st).
Lacko was just laughing at the net at the end. The cliche is true - he had the best seat in the house.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
Smooth as you like. He's been on court for less than 3 hours over three days and is in R3. Next round should be a sterner test - if he's going to go through he'll probably need to prevail in a tie-breaker or two.
Was he hinting that he was carrying an injury in the interview, saying that it's nice to go through in straights if you are carrying an injury because it can clear up, whilst it tends to get worse if you have to play five-setters?

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
I thought of that but I think he was just talking generally, answering the question of why winning fast is better.
There was certainly no sign of an inhibited serve. 35 straight service points won!

Yes it was more of a general answer to a general question of a first weeks play.

Let's hope so; agree with bb that he looked pretty free on serve, which often the first thing to go if Fed is struggling.
Wozniacki looks like she might survive vs. an epic choke for her opponent, who just missed 4mp's on her own serve.

Federer now will be pleased to see Struff & Dr Ivo going long in the 5th. I know the rallies won’t be long (!) but still.

So ivo is out, probably Fed would have preferred him.
Pity Anderson’s coming through, very dangerous on grass and a quarter / semi of him & Cilic is tough.

Funny you say that cause when GP and I can see the serve falling apart (essentially precision gone + sudden unexpected series of DFs) we are told we are making it up.....

Maybe.. but Anderson is a guarantee bona fide 100% choker. As soon as it gets close to the finishing line in a big match he chokes. End quote.

Federer says it clearly in 20mn23s (in French sorry) that strings evolution is what changed the game. Mentions his change in 2002 allowed him more safety and power in shots. He says even those with bad technique can keep the ball in court as long as they whack the ball. (wonder who he has in mind when he says that)

Unfortunately this is true against players he should not lose (Schwarzy at the French for instance) but when thse nervous players have nothing to lose and know they should lose, they play freely.

Dunno. Maybe he doesn;t mean pros. But earlier in the clip he talks about open grips Western/semi-Western and you feel he likes his game and the continental grip. Western and semi western grips have allowed for that extra spin.Emancipator wrote:Nadal?
This is what's beautiful in tennis is that you can still reach the top creating your own game. Maybe one day someone will hold the racquet like with a chinese pingpong grip and win Wimbeldon!
