Only in Madrid where Nadal plays only 60% of his full potential

Aaaawwwww, how kind and thoughtful of you...Rose

I won't even bother watching the final, will go and play instead.
Thiem has zero chance on this court.
But again at least you will be happy!

Has Nadal played any top 10 player here this year?

Thiem won't beat this freak, betting all my savings on Nadal.

conclusions:

- nadal is not as good as last year, but still enough to get to the final
- it was said that the draw was very easy for nadal, but truth is he had to fight for it (specially in first round and in quarters)
- dont think that the other half was much harder, and truth is thiem didnt have to kill his body to get to the final
- I dont forsee many more roland garros for him

4th GS final out of 6 in 2017-2018 for Nadal

Not bad for the guy who would have a short career

Very impressive by Nadal, who is overwhelming favourite.  Funnily enough, Nadal has spent more time on Court getting to the final than Thiem.  As ever, winning the first set will be crucial.

It's difficult to say how good was Nadal. When delpo had a bit of legs he seemed to have the better of him. Nadal got away with it thanks to a few drop shots ...but after that Delpo could not move anymore and it seemed even his wrist was hurting.

I think Thiem will give him a better game...but I doubt he will win. I am sure though that it will be much tighter than last year's final.

Very impressive result for Rafa.  I thought he would win - fairly easily even - but not with this score.

Those of you who are Rafa fans here must be very happy.  One more step and he is home dry with his 11th RG crown.

What about those of us who are - let's say - lesser fans? Thiem is our last best hope.  But how much hope do we have?  He did beat Rafa on clay in Madrid, but Madrid is not as good for Rafa, plus Rafa seems to often take one of the Rome/Madrid combo less seriously.  Ominously, Rafa bageled Thiem in MC, as well as last year at RG.  I would not be surprised if the score in the final is about as lopsided as it was today vs Delpo.  Especially since I have seen Thiem give up when things do not go hiw way.

Maybe we should have done as GP had advised us - forget about the clay court season before RG even started.  But now that we are here, we have to hope Thiem can do it this year.

So, Dominic, please make it happen!

It's silly and cute at the same time...

Who "invented" it?
I remember first seeing it during 1986 World Cup in Mexico.  I have always imagined that that is where it started and that that is why it was called a "Mexican" wave.  Could be wrong though.

Speaking of World Cups.  I just noticed that World Cup final coincides with Wimbledon final this year.  Sad

actually, both players, Nadal and Thiem have won 100% of their matches at RG when winning the first set

So long as the reigning champion is defending his title there is no question where my attention will be focussed, irrespective of the teams in the WCF.

By the way, I assume Federer will be #1 regardless of ATP rankings given the Wimbledon formula?
