Nadal is playing way worse than the previous years( except maybe 2015). I think he played best in 2010 and 2013.

Perhaps this is why his team and his army of paid media is trying to create a bluff with the rhetoric 'Nadal is better than ever'. He is clearly not.

The flaw there is that 2015 was not a good year cause he made the only technical change of his life: Play closer the baseline. By 2014 he was being beaten regularly by Djoko and knew he had to change his game. In fact he should have lost FO2013 as well so there was no choice for him but try not to be dominated by the guys who could run like him but simply had better shots.

2017 was certainly his best year. But should be win this FO18 (cause with Nadal his confidence can click again) then 2018 will be as good as teh rest. The problem with 2018 is that he has played too much. The tour is getting harder and each match takes more out of him...whereas in the past it was only Djokovic who could trouble him on clay.

And what's funny is that no-one mentions 2011 as Nadal best year for the same flaws.

Why woudl Nadal play worse in 2011 than in 2010? It couldl still be considered his best year as he is only 25....yet because Djoko thrashes him on clay and everywhere else and that faster balls at the FO make him doubt no one mentions this year at the same level as 2010. Without Djoko Nadal would have won all TMS and 3 slams at least that year and been hailed asNadal's best year.

Just shows that people mix up results and level!

I just changed my Serena-Pliskova pick as I realised it’s not Karolina but Kristina, the much weaker twin.

Of course not a big deal, just thought others may want to change their pick, too. Big Grin

Great point to finish the set...and clearly Shapo exposing Millman as pure retriever. I woudl not even call him a counter puncher!

Are players hitting harder or are the balls smaller this year? It looks faster than before.

I am very impressed by Shapo's game. Frankly he is going to take tennis to another level. Hope he doesn't get injured! People will soon remember the Nadal/Djoko/Murray Era as a joke shot making wise!

The king of clay gutlessly moonballing to a SBHer's corner ...

Wow, did I hear well there was a time violation given to Nadal? Who is the umpire, couldn't recognise the voice.

About time. He is taking eternity between EVERY point.

How can ROTLA can see that match and think that Nadal is not all fitness. What does he bring on the table besides running around like a rabbit?

Sweating like he is in a sauna?

Btw, I have a feeling Rotla's tried to play like Nadal, spin and all and realised how tough it is so he is now in awe of him. Winking

Too many BPs and SPs wasted. What's funny is people will remember only the wins like in 2010 and 2013....but matches have often looked much closer than the score indicates.

And that was that....Nadal's face instantly transforms into a "beast" after Bolleli's MP shot hits the net...

He should've taken this set, but maybe he just couldn't. He played as well as he could probably... which is shy he was chosen to be Nadal's R1 opponent.

Looking at the draw:

Shapo has a relatively clear path to Nadal in 2 mathches. He is better than Bolleli on all fronts and has played him on clay recently.
