You mean solid. I agree. Not very creative nor flashy, not even hand skilled but hey that's what we need to beat Rafa.naxroy wrote:good player zverev

There is a bit of Jim Courir in Edmund. Same ginger kind of guy but also the short muscled swing FH...and the cap!

Trust.? Do you really trust in Zverev to beat Nadal? Its more of a hope than trust.
From what I saw, Zverev is going down bad if the meet.

I have never seen a court where the ball dies off so much after the bounce. There is so much clay, the ball doesn't bounce much.

He has the serve, very steady shots from both wings. he will enjoy whacking that BH DTL or CC.

What a gutless player Zverev is....like nadal...begging for an UE. ...much worse than Nadal in that respect.

And what a pathetic last point to sum up all Zverev's "prowess"...
Good luck, Nole, I'm off to my tennis now.

I think Fognini can turn it on against Nadal. Much more faith in him than I have in Zverev/Djoker.

7th tournament of the year for Novak, and this is his 1st QF. Progress. And he beat Nishi last week, so presumably can beat him again and make his first SF of the year.
Will be interesting to see if he is slowly improving, or whether this week is just a little luckier for him. Last year he made final in Rome, QF in Paris and then won Eastbourne. It almost looked like he was getting back into form, but then it did not happen.

If someone has beaten Nadal before irrespective of surface, he has a better chance than someone who hasn't especially if this is not their first meeting.
Fognini has beaten Nadal on clay and HC, being 0-2 sets down in a slam. He can be on-off, but when on, he is extremely fiery. Nadal is playing okay, nothing too great. Its bo3.
I see Fogna has a good chance.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Rome
Yes but one has always have to consider Nadal's form and playing conds. here in Rome...it seems slow enough for him to inject his full power into the ball. Was Nadal in 2015 (the only year Fognini beat Nadal) in his best form and FO champion?raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:Tenez wrote:I really don't see it.raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:AceofDeath wrote:I think Fognini can turn it on against Nadal. It's important to put wins in context. I know there are players who can beat the best Nadal..but Fog doesn't have it...cause he is simply too inconsistent. His shots are too risky.

It'd be interesting watching him against Nadal to see whether it forces him to raise his game.summerblues wrote:7th tournament of the year for Novak, and this is his 1st QF. Progress. And he beat Nishi last week, so presumably can beat him again and make his first SF of the year.

I think both a fit Nishi or Djoko can take Nadal out....I am just hoping for a swift win of either of them so they don;t kill each other physically first.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Rome
your definition of "my good" is yours, I dont have to agree or disagree.
I dont need to define good to think that a certain player is good, specially if he is 21 years old, number 3 in the world, and has won 3 masters 1000 on clay and hardcourt.

This is a tennis forum.....which we bother posting to discuss the details of what make a player good. I don;t see the point in coming here and tell us a poster is "good" cause he has "good" results. We see that.
So the question is do you think Zverev is distinguishing himself by his creativity and hand skills? You don;t have to answer of course....I am just letting you know what I think of Zverev and if you think otherwise I would simply question your judgement.

of course you can explain and ellaborate your thoughts
I am not so sure about you explaining my thoughts.
I dont think he is particularly solid for example. he will be with time, but if he was solid or had shown to be solid he would have done better in slams

If you want to make a quick profit then going long on Centrale tickets when Fabio is playing Nadal wouldn't be bad. If you want to watch tennis then today is a great day - very sunny and warm. Just found the right staircase but no entry until 11:45.

And that will be the hope for Fognini. Even though it’s a big ask since the rest of the conditions allow Nadal to turn in his beast mode.Tenez wrote:I have never seen a court where the ball dies off so much after the bounce. There is so much clay, the ball doesn't bounce much.

But Fabio being Fabio cannot be a robot for more than one game.
The opera star in him has to go for crazy dropshots which he is able to pull off only in O Sole Mio mode....and that mode is being kept under check for now.
4:5, Nadal serving to stay in the match.

Wow...Nadal is tiring again........His shots are quickly losing intensity and precision.
he is done.
Well done Fog....I did not think he could do it but clearly Nadal is bluffing his energy nowadays. If you keep rallying....he will tire first.

Fabio must contain himself for the first few games of this set...he has let Nadal off the hook in this first game with that silly dropshot on 00:15.
Nadal does not need much....you've got to punch him until he falls on the ground.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Rome
When Nadals shots have the energy and spin, it's very hard to get precise shots off them. This is why you need to cut his neck's muscles like the picador does, then you can be more precise with the shots.noleisthebest wrote:I think it's more the precision and boldness of Fabio's shots.
