Great to se Flavia cheer her man with fist up in the air, giggle at his antics.

And his Argentinian coach trying to keep a straight face under that hat. Laugh

Then there is old Pietrangeli and that woman I can never remember the name of with big blonde hair and sunglasses.

It doesn't matter there is no sun.

Fabio is shining instead. Magic

Fabo finds it really haaaaard to be the same for one minute.

What a fiery character he is.

I would love to see him have a dialogue with himself in the mirror.

Buongiorno, Io sono Fabio.
You talkin' to me?

lol...I was watching Fognini yesterday with an italian friend of mine and we reminded ourselves how tennis was before...like in the 70s/80s....it was still very amateurish and lots more fun to watch in the sense it was full of inconsistent players with ups and downs.

The 3 road runners have really been joy-killers lately.

I've got to go to Rome while Fabio is still playing....
That will be my tennis stop for next year.

Ideally in that small Pietrangelli stadium.

Am I getting confused or did this Gojowiyck used to have a pony tail in some DC match once...

In the meantime, Fabio's already extra fragile nerves are looking to be at the snapping point...it's three all and this Gojo is daring to hope he can still win this match. Laugh

Wooow.....Fabio's sliced BH is jaw-droppingly gorgeous!

And it's giocco Fognini. 4:3.

Fabio misses an opportunity to break Gojo, 4:4.

Some box underneath the "towel chair" at the back gets a good kick!
The youngish umpire knows better not to say a word. He has totally blended with the crowd and fears for his life to say anything that may upset them.

As a result, Fabio doesn't look nervous any more.

Blistering bold flat FHs DTL take him to 5:4.

Delpo seems to have a groin injury...probably created by Goffin's sharp and angled shots.

That's one reason why very tall people never won multiple slams.

Those 2 service games from Shapo were absolutely amazing! Nadal at his very best...could not break the 19yo.

he is going to be 1o times better than Nadal on clay.

he looks like Fed at his best even though he is only 19! Unlikely to be able to sustain it at 19...but so impressive already.

Beating Nadal will require a team work. Shapo does his part, hopefully Fognini will make him sweat and then Djoko and Zverev will pick him up in the last 2 stages.

If Djoko was his old self it would be a no brainer.

Zverev has no chance in my opinion, so in Fabio and Italians we trust. Big Grin

Nadal's beast mode is indeed a bluff (and has been all these years).

All we need is a solid, fit DBH-er who thinks Nadal is beatable i.e. doesn't buy his bluff. smiley

Quite a few UEs from Shapo as you'd expect....but also Nadal was very consistent and lucky on returns.

Nadal is loving the conditions here. Plenty of clay, 10m of behind the baseline for serve return, slow slow slow...
He has really turned tennis on clay into physical travesty, and the worst - people think that's great tennis.

Exactly. And we get to see it three times a year, almost like an eclipse: in Madrid, first week of Wimbledon and recently in AO.

That would only have to be some specially arranged exho. And I doubt Nadal would agree to it.

From what I saw today, Nadal was returning his serve with ease from 6m behind the baseline, so a non-starter.
