Re: ATP Masters 1000: Madrid
Rao is really playing terrible nowadays. Shapo doesn't have to do much to be fair.

And just when I say that Rao ups his game....but so does Shapo. 5/3 shapo second set.Tenez wrote:Rao is really playing terrible nowadays. Shapo doesn't have to do much to be fair.

It’s almost as good as Fed’s, esp in terms of ease.Tenez wrote:It's not elegant but very good. So clearly better than Dimi in spite of the 7 years separating them.

anderson in quarters
based on how the match is going now for delpo and his h2h with anderson, I think delpo is the best bet for semis.
will nadal meet him there? hope so, would be a nice match

Yes I think Delpo is the most likely to bother Nadal.

But if you think someone is a serial cheat, would not you want him to lose? be honest.naxroy wrote:Tenez wrote:You dont get the point. I woudl not dislike Nadal if it wasn't for his dodgy muscles, stamina and on court behaviour. But don;t worry I enjoy when he loses.naxroy wrote:tenez, enjoy tennis
if you dislike him so much, dont watch nadal
you would miss great clay tennis though
you are right there, I just dont get it
I ve never watched tennis to see a certain player lose, nor had I ever felt happy for somebody losing
I know you do not think Nadal cheats but he has been bending the rule every single time. If he could bend the court lines to suit him, he would!

Delpo was super slow today, he would have had no chance vs Nadal.Tenez wrote:yes he did well.....but v Nadal....Delpo would have been the tougher player.
At least Duci is going to go for it and fight like a lion, and we know he won’t get bagelled!

Anyway, I think Schwarzman will have more chance than Delpo, he is a minii, more mobile version of him.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Madrid
Well I didnt expect delpo to lose after first set, but tennis has this things...
Schwartzman really meant the biggest test for nadal so far, but made too many mistakes with his backhand and serve
it is true though that nadal couldnt feel confortable on court throughout the match, still, he did his job in two long sets
I saw him making more UE than normally, possibly cos Diego was moving really well and it was hard for nadal to find open court

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Madrid
From what it appears to me, the only possibility Nadal can lose before RG is against Thiem. Its a small possibility but that is what we have. The other contenders are not even good enough to get to face him and losing to the non-contenders.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Madrid
Zverev seems to have added a bit of pace to his shots. He can open the court.
We have not seen Nadal play those who can inject pace consistently. We know he doesn't like pace.
Look at Wimbledon last year. He looked great when playing on slow grass but as soon as he played a heavy hitter on slightly fastish court he pannicked and retreated 5m behind teh BL.
Thiem would not be my choice for beating Nadal. Zverev, Shapo, Edmund have the firepower...and more solid on the BH too. Essential when playing Nadal.

Edmund actually got one set from nadal in last years montecarlo
Shapo? I dont know, they never met on clay, the guy looks good, but dont know if that good.
Zverev? I would have thought that, but they meeting in davis cup and the clay season so far dont say so.
it is true though that madrid height might help zverev a little... still I doubt it

I think today is a good moment for nadal to lose or find certain difficulty
yesterday I saw him a little erratic, and in a good day, thiem is better than schwartzman

Yes bit what was true yesterday might not be so today. Nadal is still the favourite for sure....but I would like to see him play someone with firepower...from both wings.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Madrid
of course, I am not saying he is not a real option, he indeed is.
but I was surprised of how nadal beat him in davis cup coming from 2 months off
looking at his clay results it is true he won in munich and in general he is doing better than I thought

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Madrid
Nadal is clearly tired. Strange as he had a week rest between Barca and Madrid.
This is why he will probably pull out of Rome to make sure he rests for the FO.
Someone like Thiem can engage in those long rallies and expose Nadal bluffing fitness.

Yes I do...cause it's obvious nadal is tired..and usually Thiem gets better as the match goes on.

Thiem hits harder. certainly today. Nadal was under par.....but was it to accumulated fatigue or simply Thiem gave him a ball which forced him back far from the baseline.

He is a completely different player on clay as compared to HC, Grass. He should get a better coach like Norman. He can win RGs.

It’d seriously piss Nadal off if he entered, especially if Nadal got a crappy draw.Jahu wrote:Fed should play RG, all fresh, easy draw to Final and win it,I think Fed can take all 4 GS this year....

True, Fed just showing as Numero 1 seed at RG, would totally screw Nadal from match 1.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Madrid
..and let's not forget Madrid's altitude, it's a good 600 m above sea level. Nadal has lost to Federer, Nole, Murray (twice), Verdasco and now thiem in Madrid for a reason. Because of the altitude it's by far the fastest claycourt out there.
Nadal has to deal with a tricky dilemma: does he want the #1 position back and open the throttle once more in Rome or does he want to avoid the risk of entering RG with too much mileage, which could mean the top spot is -especially if he does not win the USO and Fed wins- out of his reach for a long time..

Yeah, it wasn’t in the plan for sure.
It’ll be fascinating if the draw at RG gives him a few tricky ones in succession.

This second set and in particular that TB v Edmund shows perfectly what I try to describe about Sharapova being a basher.

So Nadal acknowledges that the fast(isher) conds of Madrid makes him more vulnerable. Clearly nadal doesn't like pace cause that prevents him from using his superior power and stamina.
