He will contradict himself over time. I have heard him once recently saying it was his first wimbledon.

Re: Federer’s Favourite Match
I went for the Sampras match on the basis that he's talking purely about a single match, rather than its greater significance &c &c.
What an occasion for the 19-yr-old, 1st Centre Court match vs. the most successful Wimbledon competitor ever and defending Champion (his #7 was much the best at the time without any challenge rounds), one of the best ever grass court players, or just 'players' without the qualification of grass, and Fed wins a sparkling match in terms of quality and drama.
If it's most significant I think he'd go for Wimbledon 2003 (and his answer might indicate that that is what he was really thinking).
If' he'd ask me, it's AO 2017 thank you very much.
If it's "some other match" there are 1396 of them, and, well, good luck with that.

I'm going AO '17 simply because it was redemption, 5 years closed, beating Rafa, the comeback. Basically, it had the Quan.

Well done, Barry!
"I have a lot of passion for the game. Playing in front of full stadiums is fun, I tell you that. I remember how I started when I was young. Sometimes I played at 11 pm on second courts. I remember playing (Pete) Sampras, my first time on Centre Court in Wimbledon.
Cold hands, emotions. Out of the body experience. It will always be my favorite match."

Re: Federer’s Favourite Match
I must say, an interesting choice.
Though, I can understand completely.
I will never, ever forget my first time in Wimbledon. I was so happy I was literally choking for air at one stage.
It was better than a dream come true.
And it could not compare to anything from "life".
So for Fed to play his first match on hallowed Centre Court and beat Sampras as a 19 year old, wow!

Re: Federer’s Favourite Match
One day I'll write a book about Wimbledon...I am actually lazy to compile a portfolio and send it to SW19 as I was advised by a lady from our club who works there during the tournament.
That would be my dream job - Wimbledon's resident poet.
It actually exists!

Re: Federer’s Favourite Match
Fed's most important wins according to be would be
1. Wimbledon 2003. The first one is almost always the toughest one. Had Fed lost the W 2003 final, he might have taken some more years to win his first slam.
2. RG 2009 - It removed a giant monkey off his back. He didn't care much about winning RG again.
3. AO 2017 - This gave a new life to Fed's tennis, so much he could take on his most fierce rival by the horns and tame him. And do it over and over.
