I had a bad back injury today, there is a storm on the Sun, so this is probably not a surprise.

Re: Indian Wells
I invite NITB and Tenez and co to come tell me how I know nothing about tennis. Now is the time, lads.
See, psychology is a major part of sport. That's why I had Del Potro as favourite.
Come on, let's hear it:
Del Potro has a weak backhand
All on Federer's racquet
Daniel knows nothing
Federer is betterer
Truth is - Federer was nervous and agitated all way through and totally blew it from 40-15 in last set. And the only thing that can explain it is psychology. He bottled it. Del Potro's serve and forehand made all the difference, esp in the tiebreak.

I am still amazed at how fed played some of the points. Very unlucky there.
But it is not the first time he loses matches from MPs up. It's getting a habit.

Well deserved for Delpo, hang in there, fearless.
Fed not bad, should of gone home last night, guess this was a bonus, but just lost it at those MPs and melted away, probably told him self this is not to be.

5 DF, 1/4 BP, all serving stats less then Delpo, did well to come to second TB.
Happy for Delpo, hope he can kick some ass all year and meet Fed in Finals

Delpo played great, but for me this was more the case of Fed losing the match than Delpo winning it.

Fed playing that dopy drop shot summed it up really. The wrong shot. But i felt Del Potro was fated to win from start. He has the belief and momentum.

Re: Indian Wells
Did Federer ever lost a match after having 3 mp's on serve?
Must be a long long time ago
Anyway, i don't care much about the result, it's meaningless.
And he'll feel stupid, that's all. Holidays has to wait a few more matches i guess.

...easier/harder then being the best ever? Fed yesterday and today did not want to be in the court, lost First sets easy, lots of BPs wasted, not the Fed of last 2 years.

I agree about the title being not really important....but the points were. He could have missed Miami and still be #1 during Wimbledon. ....a real shame.

Still think clay would be a big error. Look at the fun he’s not had on this sludge.
Make quarters at Miami and he’s #1 going into clay and if Nadal wins everything at recaptures it then good luck to him.

Yeah, bummer, but to be fair you can’t win every tight one and though he should have win this in the third he could have lost in the second and should have lost yesterday.Jahu wrote:bogbrush wrote:Hope means intend. Re: Indian Wells
Clay is slow but the mouvement for all players is a tiny bit harder so to some extend it is easier to hit winners than in IW where players can get to anything.
Plus Miami is 6 matches, clay is 5 matches.

All due respect to Federer but he got a bit cocky there.. trying a drop shot twice during a championship point. Only has himself to blame!

LOL. A lot of wise words all around.bogbrush wrote:Wives generally want their husbands to go shopping with them because they want them to share activity with them and don’t want them just doing their own thing. Re: Indian Wells
I did not see the match today - don't know whether I should be glad or sad. Not a good result but must have been very exciting to watch.
I was following the scores quite closely but somehow I missed the fact that Fed was even serving for the match - I thought they were both holding their serve through TB in the decider. Knowing he had 3MPs on his own serve makes it even more disappointing.
But as BB says, you can't win every tight match. In the bigger scheme of things, not a big deal. All I hope is he is fine for Wimbledon and the USO - I do not care about #1 spot between now and then.

Re: Indian Wells
That was a very niggley match to say the least. Federer looked to have imploded for a bit after that HE challenge from Delpo on set point in the 2nd. Have to say he did challenge in time, but waited for the ball to go out first. Then oddly Delpo himself exploded when he lost that 2nd set.
Both players played really well and some of Federer's retrieving was absurd at times.
Wasn't a full flow full flight performance from Federer. Just seemed more emotional in the sense of more expressive when winning points. Felt like he wound himself up.
Not all doom and gloom. Federer still has Miami and that hopefully will set him up with a decent cushion before Grass.

That was a ridiculous back 9 from Rory. Some of his driving was immense. 370 yard drive on the 72nd hole!! Insane. Have to say his putting was fantastic. Was draining everything. Look something like his 2011-2012 best.

Yeah, if Rory plays like this, it's great entertainment. This is how he became my fav player. It's just that he still is an underachiever, given his talent. He's a bit -how we call it in Holland- a nice weather player. Not the best in dealing with adversitylegendkillar wrote:gallery play wrote:Rory wins, come on Fed, make this night perfect

Tiger did a great job too. He ran out of gas in the end but he'll be ready for the Masters.

Re: Indian Wells
Delpo has a strong big game and such players are dangerous opponents for anyone, so why not Fed. The forehand is extremely potent and range and pace he can produce is unsettling for anyone.
He employed about same tactics as the USopen 17. Big Body serves to get a block or chip return and then use the FH to attack. Impressive.
Delpo was better in the 1 set. Fed was in the 2nd. Fed was better in the 3rd till 5-4 40*-15, and just when he thought he's home, Delpo comes up with the big game.
TB, Fed completely lost focus, 2 DFs, I've never seem him commit those. Delpo played solid and went over the line.

Oh indeed. I thought his breakthrough at Carnoustie in 2007 was some of the most fantastic golf I'd seen by a youngster probably since Tiger. Rory just seems to find ways of destroying good rounds by having shockers. I tend to find he capitulates after a bad couple of holes or something.
He is by large a huge underachiever. Always amazed he never did well at St Andrews. That course was made for him.
Tiger wasn't too shoddy. -10 is a cracking score. I think the Masters is really shaping up. Rory and Tiger coming into some form.

Re: Indian Wells
Ah well. The only certainty about an unbeaten run is that it will end one day. It might as well end to a heavyweight player worthy of Fed's scalp who is also one of the decent guys on tour and coming back from injury. Interesting that the two biggest wins of his career have come vs. Federer. I think they both were aware of the USO 2009 during the match.
The boring thing is that to achieve equivalent ranking protection as a W would have done, Fed has to progress to Miami QF - four more gruelling matches.

I would have liked to see a fresher Federer play yesterday. His UEs were ridiculously high in that first set. I was still amazed by his relatively good fitness considering the tough match v Coric...but I am pretty sure is timing was affected by a sore body who got a bit better as the match went on (a trend in Feds matches over the last few years).
Did he lose his focus at 5/4 40/15? Maybe but to me it looks very much like USO 09 or USO11 v Djoko. He makes an insurmontable effort to get there and simply cannot help relaxe as soon as he sees the winning line. It's the tiredness that makes him relax..and not carelessness. We saw that he gave everything to arrive to those MPs but simply had nothing left in the tank after that.
I doubt he will enter Miami. Let's see.

Hahah, kind of gave up for that period that that's it from Fed and he will quit tennis any month now, so time went by.
Then gave up on Tennis too, with Nadal and Djoko making a joke of a tennis world.

Like a lion? I'm not sure which match you were watching, but
1. Silly errors.
2. Nervousness throughout.
3. Uncharacteristic outbursts, repeatedly.
4. Thinking he'd won point, returning to his seat, only to be forced back and made to look dopy. Then lost the point.
5. Double double fault.
6. Going for drop shot on Champ Point twice.
7. Blowing 40-15 serving for the tournament.
It was one of the crappiest displays by Fed I have ever seen. He let the opponent get to him almost from the word go. Lion? More like pussy cat.
Being a fan of a player shouldn't make you blind to their weaknesses and mistakes.
