I think with Djokovic in trouble he sees the opportunity to take this away to the stratosphere. He also knows that his life’s achievement is still vulnerable to Nadal.
It would only be the family that makes him stop abd there’s no sign of that, the girls don’t need to travel and he picks & chooses.

There’s really no evidence one way or another.
We’ll know if he hasn’t said it anywhere until Wimbledon.

I doubt he would announce until post USO. No-one would want that pressure round their neck entering each match with the "this could be the last match at..."

Roger Federer is 155 ranking points behind Rafael Nadal. He’ll return to world No1 on 5 March if Nadal fails to make it to the Acapulco semi-finals.

No reason to play if it hurts his chances of defending his title.bogbrush wrote:Yeah, and bypass the mud season.AceofDeath wrote:Now that this is over

The french press will probably put all the pressure on him to play it though.

Nadal wins the Acapulco QF and gives a walkover to his SF opponent just to stay #1.

Really, it’s the back. I believe if he hadn’t picked that up in Cincinatti this would have been #21. He’s dumped clay (thankfully) so he’ll go into any match as favourite, if fit.legendkillar wrote:Greg with a rare nugget of sensibility:

Cilic has enhanced his standing but the field is open.

I think they keep a seat warm for him. He needs to go because otherwise he’ll blow his last chance for #1 abd it’s not like has has to do much, just win a couple of early rounds.

I think it was a good question given I think it's a wider field towards the back end of tournaments rather than before when you could name the 3/4 semi finalists.
Intriguing year ahead

ha ha.. well said guys..
My only daughter is 10 months old now. And I'm thinking she too might see Fed win a slam.

Re: Aus open final
Back from church, saw the presentation.
So beautiful and sad at the same time.
And can I as a fan also thank the Aussie crowd for being so laid-back, fair, relaxed and generous.
For creating the sweet enviroment for playing this match, a “celebration of tennis” with all it means.
And what to say of Roger.
The emotion is again locked in the heart.
The river of pain and joy in those tears sobbed in ecstasy like in Verlaine’s Claire de Lune:
(English translation)
Your soul is a delicate landscape
Where roam charming masks and bergamasques
Playing the lute and dancing and seeming almost
Sad under their whimsical disguises.
While singing in a minor key
Of victorious love and easy life
They don't seem to believe in their happiness
And their song mingles with the moonlight,
With the sad and beautiful moonlight,
Which makes the birds in the trees dream
And sob with ecstasy the water streams,
The great slim water streams among the marbles.
So beautiful and sad at the same time.
