Fed only got rattled when hawkeye didn’t work on 15:40, but he still managed to break.
Berd is not a dogged, competitive grinder so he’ll probably go quietly in the night, esp if Fed breaks him early innthe 2nd set.
What if he breaks Federer early in the 2nd set.....?

Fed on key points is still 2 levels up than anybody else. he plays conservative to save energy.....but when it matters...wow...still wow....after 15 years of watching him.

Two down one to go.
Btw, that was a sublime point when they were slicing bhs cc, Fed was obviously deliverately making Berd more nervous by the shot and thenm just as he got him hypnotised and settled...bang!
Annout of this world BHDTL.
To which I screamed inside:
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
As all those rarely used lamps in the brain all lit up!

Aye, I still think of that forehand vs. Haas 30-40, 3-4, 0-2; a pivot point for his career.

Re: Aus Open Day 10:
That match v Haas was such a joke....he won 15% more point than Tommy yet found himself 2 sets down. The only drawback in that great scoring system.

Both Fed and Berd know this is a finished match but they still have to play it.
Berd is spent, Fed just can’t wait to get out.
Hopefully he’ll discipline himself now and be clinical in the finish.

So how do you think Chung will do v Federer? I am still a bot worried of Chung's heavy shots. Though not as heavy as Berds....so will see.

One would argue it's a formality, but that other semi has me on tenderhooks. Think Federer would love for Kyle in the final where experience counts for everything, unless of course Cillic gets another blister!

Federer must prefer Edmund but he has business to take care of and part of experience is knowing the danger of getting ahead of yourself.

There is no easy run for Fed ....remember WTF just a couple of months ago. We thought it was all done and dusted....had he won it, he'd be in a good position to reclaim #1...just a final would have been enough I believe.

Re: Aus Open Day 10:
I suspect Fed has been here enough to know not to have a chosen opponent in the final. I'd agree that Cilic looks more dangerous, being a proven Slam winner and with some unfinished business. He really dug in vs. Nadal and there were moments when he was unplayable. If Fed wins vs. Chung, and if Fed faces Cilic, I guess he knows not to panic whilst Cilic is in his unplayable modes, and to hang on and force him to win those pressure points that so often get to him.

Re: Aus Open Day 10:
My feeling mirrors this; complacency would be stupid. Happily Roger is very far from stupid.
I feel Chung is a very nice player but he’s been helped by players (esp Djokovic aNd Zverev) who played to his strengths of lung busting rallying. Neither threaten the serve instinctively. Roger will not play that game.
On the other side again there are good players. I’ll be cheering Edmund on, and not for patriotic reasons.
Roger is obviously favourite, but not like if it was Tennys in the semi and a Batista-Agut type in the other side.

Re: Aus Open Day 10:
Match-up wise Chung is the toughest for Fed. Fed will do anything to shorten the rallies but Chung has an amazing passing shot, from all angles. Against Djoko Chung got stronger by the minute so Fed must stay away from any brawling or whatsoever.
Cilic can overpower Fed, but will get nervous sometime. Marin has a deep belief he has to do everything perfectly right -like US14- in order to beat Fed. That's not the best "baseline" to start from in a slam final against Fed.
That said: if he serves like he did against NAdal...anything can happen
Edmund won't cause any problem.

What Federer is doing is impossible to describe.
Best ever and totally trascending the sport.
Total respect and admiration, I feel very lucky to have seen him play so many times

Roootlaaaa
Ok, I think Mirka was good looking (more in a cute than hot way) when she snapped Fed.
She was slim and had a lovely smile, nice figure.
Not the sex kitten Berd’s wife is but not bad either.
Maybe she is a tigress in bed...only Fed knows and he seems happy.
All that aside,
we’ll see how Berd’s beauty (and she is a real beauty, saw her once in O2) looks after four children and Berd’s 19 slams.
Anyway, maybe Fed likes big girls.
And if he loves her like he seems he does who cares about what you, yahoo and tenez think.
She is a great wife to him and that’s all that matters.
Love is bigger than even sexy look!

Re: Aus Open Day 10:
My thoughts on Fed-Chung...Fed better not underestimate him like he did Donskoy in Dubai last year...I know he won’t.
I think Fed’s serving will make the difference.
Chung is quick but Fed is quicker.
(Even though 15-16 years older!!!)
Enough said?

Maybe not in an official beauty contest...
Though I can almost feel collective male groan every time the camera pans over Mirka.
“Only the best for our Rog!”
“Poor Rog...”
Even I caught myself thinking, she could lose a few kilos woth all that cash...but clearly not bothered about it, which I find quite attractive and mature about her.
Maybe some, like Berd or Roddick (he even literally braghed about it) quietly think they have one over him, but in the big picture, Mirka is good enough for Fed to be happy and not stray around.
Mirka certainly kept a beady eye over him all these years...not like Nole’s wife.

Of course not - Dubai merely served the purpose of shaking some rust off - I don't think Federer was remotely bothered by that tight loss. This is real history up for grabs.

Maybe he was not super bothered like in Wimbledon, but he surely did not want to lose that early.barrystar wrote:noleisthebest wrote:My thoughts on Fed-Chung...Fed better not underestimate him like he did Donskoy in Dubai last year...I know he won’t.

Chung really plays like Nole. Same thinking on the court.

Who knows - it was a second round match, he would have worked out what his game was like before flying over to Indian Wells in prime nick. He doesn't expect to make history in Dubai I think.

No, of course not, this is a slam.
He will fight to the last atom for that trophy.
Another little mirror of 5e disco ball of his RF-ness.
The fight.
