1 ace in 7 games! That's not the USO of old.Tenez wrote:More than the court it seems to be the ball. It does not cut through the air.

Tenez, the guy is obviously unwell as has 60% power. Additionally they are hitting with excessivel topspin.
Lopez / Federer for one example contained abundant hitting well past the opponent.
I'm not saying this is a fast court but it's playable.

I can see he is unwell but that's a different discussion. The conds are particularly slow. they are 2 players serving and the aces count is ridiculously small but the ball going through the air is very slow.
42 UEs between those 2 for 11 winners!!! com'on!! I am stunned you can't see it!

Everyone knows it's slow, I just think you're overdoing it. That said, is it particularly humid? I've seen far more penetration through the court in earlier matches so if it's not the players it might be atmospheric.

1 ace in 15 games!!! That's particularly bad, especially versus an unfit player.

So Federer, should he pass Kholi, should play 2 Nadals in a row. the SHBH RH version and then the DHBH LH one.

Yeah, though he might just get JMDP in a barely believable turnaround.

ideally but I doubt it. Anyway a 5 setter between those 2 is what fed wants!

What the Hell us Thiem doing here? Stupid.
Good for Fed though.

I don't think Fed wants the DP of the last set and a half. He's scorching the ball through the court. Thiem will be a much more comfortable match.

Great break back for Thiem. That's a huge game.

Re: US open prediction game: Day 8
I differ. Thiem is a very physical player. There is no easy point against him as he brings a lot of them back and his spin pushes players back and forces lots of running. very different to Lopez and his flat shots.Slippy wrote:I don't think Fed wants the DP of the last set and a half. What a volley from Thiem! All credit to him, he looked as though he was fading against the power of DP but he's been sensational the last few games.

Re: US open prediction game: Day 8
That's the end of Del Potro's challenge probably. But he's certainly getting his form back. Just shame he keeps getting bad draws. It's good news for Fed because Thiem doesn't have the same weapons as Del Potro.

Just got back home; thought Delpo would have lost in straights by now (I saw the score midway through the second).

It's shots like that one which are the reason he's still in it.

See this is the difference... Del Potro not only able to hit those winners when it counts... but having the nerve. Thiem got real nervous after that down the line massacre.

Re: US open prediction game: Day 8
I cannot believe players have hard time beating Delpo even though he has no BH. I suspect Fed would take him apart so easily.
Anyway, for this match the longer it goes the better (I will change my mind quickly if Fed loses to Kohli - then I will want fresh Delpo or Thiem )

Re: US open prediction game: Day 8
But you don't need a huge backhand when your forehand is THIS good and your serve is excellent. Del Potro on form can beat anyone. I hd him down as a dark horse at the start - he's someone you just don't want to play.

HUGE serves to stay in it. He's fave for the tiebreak. Thiem didnt do anything wrong that game.. just too damn good from Del.

Those two aces to save the match points and the forehand to win the tiebreak! This is some match. How does Thiem recover from that?

Re: US open prediction game: Day 8
Those forehands are evil. They're about the only shot that could trouble federer at his prime on this surface., And they'll be a big problem again should they meet.

Evidence from history of these kinds of matches is... he doesn't. If he manages to regroup now, then that will be a very special thing. All the momentum and belief and form is with Del Potro. Thiem looks like he's been hit by a truck. And that's not far from the truth.

If not match of the year, then match of the summer this, amazing shots form both, Delpo saved the 4th on serve, though Dom just got tired a little.

Thiem. Without a doubt. He knows Del Potro can beat him. He knows how dangerous his FH and serve are. Thiem is inexperienced and has level drops and no huge weapon like Del's forehand.
Thiem's overall game and backhand dlt are good... but they aren't devastating.

Thiem needs 1 extra meter to be closer to the line.

Thiem threw his hands in the air then asking how it was possible to hit a forehand like that.

Re: US open prediction game: Day 8
In fairness to Thiem, he's showed two things this match I didn't know he had. First, technically he's played some insane shots off full power DP hitting which required serious hand skills. Secondly, every time I think he's rocking he's hit back with stunning tennis. I think he's slight underdog given how tough Potro is under pressure but he's fought hard.Daniel wrote:Slippy wrote:Those two aces to save the match points and the forehand to win the tiebreak!
