i reckon that federer at his best would have taken a set off nadal today,i find t hard to imagine pushing nadal to a 5th cause losing a few sets would brought back his mental demons
a loss here today would have ben disastrous going into the grass court season
i think even djokovic at his best would have struggled against nadal today

Sets 2 and 3 so far have been Rafa at his absolute best. 10 winners and 1 UFE so far in the 3rd set. On clay. And we haven't yet completed 5 games.

Stan's not even playing badly unlike the 2008 final where Federer was hopeless.

It's grass next, as well as Nadal has been on Clay, would be a freak transformation for him to win on grass out of nowhere after years in the wilderness (quite literally)

Well, that was very one-sided.  I thought Stan would be able to keep it closer (even though I did expect straight set win for Rafa) but he never had a chance.

Let's hope we do not have more of the same coming at Wimbledon Yikes

Nadal bullied him right off the court. At one point I felt he was going to sit next to Norman! I don't think Stan of 2015 would've had any answers to Rafa today.

Didn't expect 3 set win so easily, but, like I said, it depended which Stan turned up.  This wasn't the same Stan as against Murray.  Probably the 5 setter took it out of him.  His one handed backhand also suffered a lot on clay against Nadal - just like Fed's does.  To beat Nadal on clay, you either have to blast him off like Soderling, or match him in a war of attrition, especially on the backhand, like Djokovic.

This was a beatable Nadal, but he had a cake walk tournament. He has played the best all week though, and I am not sure if a different draw would have even mattered given how meekly people played.

This was Nadal playing at his absolute best. Whether he can maintain this level is another thing altogether. But for this one match he was playing his best tennis.

Besides a decline is based on trends - not one match or even one tournament. You're like the person who waits for years for one piece of evidence to support your arguement and then jumps out and says 'I told you so', having ignored years of evidence contrary to your point of view.

Federer has had a better year than Rafa so far; he's won a slam and 2 Masters like Rafa, but second half of the year is preferred for the Swiss and still to come. Also very intelligent scheduling. Nadal has played great in both slams but not as consistent in Masters.

Not a fan of Nadal and didn't watch the finals but by the sounds of it, this was an amazing performance. I'll check the highlights as soon as I can. Congrats to Nadal like someone said the best on this surface more so than anyone is on any surface. With the way the world is today and the way people are growing up, I doubt we'll see a player like this again for a while, if ever.

That's rich. It has been obvious to me for the last 8 years!!! And results have been backing me up for the last 4 years now.

No this one is even more special as we have a player heavily relying on fitness maintaining amazing form past 31. ...again contrary to what i first thought.

Id like to have the names if those who can see Nadal has lost a step , power and reflexes!

I'm right here, Tenez.  Nadal isn't as good as he used to be - but it helps when no-one from the younger generation has stood up.  Stan could have played far better but his 5 setter against Murray doomed any hope.  Everything fell into alignment for Nadal this tournament.  He has an absolute cake walk of a draw, tailor made for him.  You can't draw any conclusions based on that - other than he beat who was in front of him. He played the best tennis this year too overall - despite being worse than previous dominating years.

Yes and Querrey did once, Thiem once too.
Should we go through all of Nadals losses in detail in case we forget to ignore this historic achievement? Maybe you'll be less upset after that.

Nadal was the clear favorite coming into the tournament. He draw too was kind and opened up further to make things easier. Not saying he would have lost otherwise, but maybe it would have been tougher than this cake-walk he received.

15 Slams puts him in #2, but irrespective of that in my book he was already #2 in GOAT list. He is definitely the GOAT on clay.

flawless performance this was. Wawrinka didn't get much chance, tough he himself played poor on important occasions.
