Gorgeous tennis from Schwartzy.

Argentinian school of tennis is so much better than Spanish.

I saw the highlights of Nole-Goff.

Just to say that camera really does not do justice to how cleanly Goffin strikes the ball.

I remember watching the two play live in RG in 2013, and how impressed I was.

I hope he has enough left in his tank for Nadal tomorrow, though Nadal looked like pig in the mud against Schwartz today.

I predicted you'd both do this when Nadal looked like he was about to win this tournament, or any tournament (he still might lose). It must be so easy to just tailor fit any theory or insult to a player to pacify yourself on being wrong, regardless of the facts. Whenever Nadal or Djokovic win, all you are going to do is blame doping or say it's because Federer isn't in the draw. Anybody can do that. Nadal is showing some form, so, quick, bring up drug testing and doping.  You fool no-one.  Doh  That's why I am only going to be here once a blue moon - and I suspect it's also why Amri buggered off permanently.  It's just pointless.  Cheers

Fleming has been on form this week. There was a gem he came out with at the start of the week in the Sousa match when he wanted a let called for a pigeon putting him off and after a 5 minute delay he quipped:

"And after all that, no-one cared!"

He is brilliant Laugh

I think FTF is Pouille's biggest problem.
They put so much pressure on him. I have a feeling worse than LTA on Murray.
Not deliberately, but still it's there.

His coach is doing a great job as a buffer.

Same thing burnt Rublev out, too, except that he doesn't seem to have any calming presence around him.

He is not gutless, just nervous.
For an instinctive player, that makes all the difference.

Well, he is too silky/nice for "now".

He has an element of it hidden somewhere, judt too cultivated by how he was brought up.

Joke call there, turns a hold from a Goffin into a break back. Ball was miles out and Umpire went to the wrong mark.

It was a pretty embarrassing call, and on a pretty important point. I think they would be better off with HE on clay too. Even if HE does not always get it right, at least it is consistent and will not make blunders like this.

I'd say only in the case of trying to pick the right mark. Nothing woudl drive me madder than a ball out, clearly visible with a clay mark called in with HE.

HE cant work on clay cause of how the mark reflects on the court when ball bounces especially if it skids
the only plus to it would be identifying when the ball bounced cause sometimes the umpires look at the completely wrong mark

I dodn't see the match (just a few points at the very end and in that 15 min long game on Goffin's serve), but sounds like it was ine of thise vintage Nadal matches from hell.

Goffin looked like played well just was tired from yesterday.

Shame.

What was the score when that bad call was made?

Did it really change anything?

I must say, things like that would drive me mad, you si ply can't prepare for them however hard you try.

It changed everything.

Goffin was leading 3-2 with a break, looking relatively comfortable. It should have been 4-2 but the umpire made them replay a point that was clearly Goffin's and Rafa went on to break serve and then broke serve again to take the set.

Goffin was fuming and couldn't get his act together. The end.

Nitb,

It was a disastrous call. Goffin is up 3:2 and serving. Rafa sends a ball long by good 10-15cm (as we can see on HE on TV), linesman calling it out so it is 4:2. Rafa not challenging but Cedric decides to come down and check the mark. He then proceeds to pick a wrong mark and declares Rafa's shot good.

Goffin ultimately lost the game and was never same again. Horrible call. That said, Goffin should not have allowed himself to be impacted by it so much. Mistakes do happen and he is a pro. I suppose easier said than done.

To me that sounds the worst call ever.

I don't know how players can live with themselves like that, eg Nadal.

How can you continue to play knowing you have stolen a point.

I know players do all kinds of stuff in order to win: dope, fake MTOs, but this takes the cake.

And of course, nothing is going to happen...

It makes me sick just to visualise the situation, I can imagine poor Goffin. There is no way you can remain unaffected and control that situation.

Such a shame.

Agreed!

Though, I don't mind watching Nole on clay when he is playing well. Murray is a turn off full stop.

He looks odd on the surface, as if he is too big for the court.
