He's not used to being on the end of losses to the same player. He can have a bit of the mental weakness for a change. It's delicious.

Conditons are very tough, looks like it's quite hot and humid.
I don't think even Nadal is enjoying them.

Re: ATP 1000: Miami
So pros and cons of Federer
Pros
Playing pretty well
Cons
1st serve down since Kyrgios
BP conversion is a bit lousy
It's all on Fed's racquet, as always. He has to just keep the standard up and maybe play the BPs better.

Forehand winners:
Fed: 12
Nadal: 4
Who's your daddy?

True, but better this than sunny and windy. For both actually.... wrote:Conditons are very tough, looks like it's quite hot and humid.

First set was quite ok

He's playing better than I thought he would. I mean, let's be honest, it's not the same standard as the other day and no-one expected that, but he's playing pretty solid. The 1st serve is my biggest gripe.

What's wrong with Rafa? He used to be a brick wall against Fed.

Age. Same with Fed, but a. he's the greatest and defying all odds and b. He had a break and it's helped. It won't last, so we should enjoy it while we can.
Nearly all players stop playing their best post 27. It's that simple. Only very very few play anywhere near their prime in their 30s.

You think this Nadal is as good as 5 years ago? Cause I don't.

Could it be that Feds simply improved in multiple areas as he's got older? Can't win a grand slam and beat top 10 players if you 'stop playing your best' surely.

You're underestimating Fed's best at 2004-7. It was better than this. And yeah, a Federer in 30s can do it playing near his best. Not often though, as his 30s tally clearly shows.

His FH probably was better, not his BH and serve for me.Daniel wrote:AceofDeath wrote:Could it be that Feds simply improved in multiple areas as he's got older? Can't win a grand slam and beat top 10 players if you 'stop playing your best' surely.

His serve was definitely better. His forehand was definitely better. His backhand is debatable, but he was playing with a smaller racquet anyway. And his footwork was better and he was faster.

Fed races through his service games with his eyes closed. It would be very harsh if Nadal wins this set.

See, this Nadal "tactic" is just pure desperation. Trying to end the point quickly is not his style at all. And he doesn't have the talent to do it.

How many BPs is Federer going to squander? And I don't want to see him lose and know that's the reason. He needs to sort it the fuck out.

I have to disagree. The down the line was the better shot regardless. Cross court was asking for trouble.

I do. But I am also getting that "Not converting BPs and it's going to end in tragedy" feeling too. Still, this isn't the same Nadal mentally or physically. But Federer really is giving chances here he shouldnt be!
