Re: Toni And Rafa Split!
Toni said he doesn't take any compensation from Nadal for his coaching efforts. Then he he certainly would need to be in control of things.. and as Nadal has added Moya to his team, Toni will as expected feel like sharing his position. There will be clash of ideas, bruise on the ego.
For someone who helped Nadal transform into 14 Slam winner, it would not be a comfortable situation.
So from Toni's point of view, its a professional decision. Nothing more to see into this. Similar to what Na Li did when she changed her husband-coach.

Re: Toni And Rafa Split!
Yes. That's a strange decision but most likely due to Toni not wanting travelling anymore. Toni's coaching is like Nadal's game : very simple but efficient so probably, like Nadal s game he is running out of ideas. If that spiny ball can't win him enough UEs anymore to win a slam there is no much he can do. Next slam Nadal will lose early to Zverev or else.
Still I fancy Toni to be in the box in the FO.

Re: Toni And Rafa Split!
really surprising and i think will probably end up being a massive mistake for nadals career
its quite clear from the article that his uncle isnt happy about not having a say in anything anymore

Re: Toni And Rafa Split!
Maybe Toni found out TDs are planning to speed up conditions so realised his magic touch has timed out!

Both Nadals have run their course. It's just another part of the endgame.

Re: Toni And Rafa Split!
the real question here is can anyone else bring something new to nadals game that his uncle didnt or coudnt
is nadal able to be coached by anyone else other then his uncle
i think that BB is right they have run their course but i think that nadal should have parted with his uncle as his coach at least 2-3 years ago

Re: Toni And Rafa Split!
I don't think it's a matter of any coach's ability to bring new things...it's about Nadal's inability to implement those new things.
He would need to change his FH grip, and I am not sure he is able to do it.
He has been takimg the ball super late all his life, and has already made a huge progress with playing from closer to the baseline with that same grip, but I think he has hit the brick wall with that option now.
Toni orobably knows Rafa can't take the ball early so...astalavista baby!

the saying goes, you cant teach an old dog new tricks but having said that roger seems to keep improving his game in many different ways
its certainly going to be really interesting to see how nadal adapts to playing without being coached from the stands
