Great win for Goff.
Haven't seen him in AO yet, but read Ivo said he played amazing against him.
Should be an excellent match against Dimi, and I'll be cheering for Goffin.
As the tournament progresses, we are seeing lighter players win.
Agut winning vs Raonic atm, too.
What a difference speeding up the conditions has made.
Only not sure what Nadal is still doing in the draw!

Dimi wins in 4 sets, Denis tired a little, but good show from Dimi.

Re: Oz open prediction game - day 8
I thought Dimi looks abysmal until Istomin tired. Absolutely clueless.
But not as bad as Raonic looks here (admittedly left home at start of 2nd set, going by scoreline since). Guy doesn't have a clue.
It's coming to something when the best hope of kicking Nadal out before the final is Gael Monfils.

Agut was even a break down in that 2nd set. But in fact I fancy Agut to do more damage against Nadal cause his flat shots must be pretty tough to handle on this surface.

Perhaps so - I think Raonic has zero chance against Nadal so he can't be lower.

I think Rao will also be very tough cause he has more powerful shots than Zverev and a much better serve. I think Agut is underestimated...i think he is unbeaten this year.

Mental midgetry of usual proportions from Monfils here. For him to be a top 10 player should be a cause of huge embarrassment to those below him.

pff, poor start from Monfils. He gives Nadal way to much time to dictate

And its gonna be a poor end too. No matter what their rankings are, Monfils is way below Nadal in their match up.gallery play wrote:pff, poor start from Monfils. He gives Nadal way to much time to dictate

Re: Oz open prediction game - day 8
I'm afraid so.
But Mofils can hit flat if he has no other choice. So i can see him win a set by doing so.
For the moment he's a yard or 3 too far behind the baseline

He's an idiot. There's really no other word that gets there more efficiently.
Todays offering is to try to beat a guy whose game is based on stamina, low errors, and hates being pressured.... by standing miles behind, not pressurising him and hoping he makes lots of errors or gets tired.

There's indeed no excuse for this moronic strategy.
Have to say: he's slightly more decisive the last few games

Monfils benefited from the fall of others... such players are only stay in top-10 for a short while.. he will disappear before wimbledon..

Haha - some of these players, like Monfils, really are this dumb. And when Nadal is 50 feet behind the baseline, you have all sorts of options available to take him out of the baseline comfort zone.

What annoys me is that Nadal got the easiest run he could have had in this draw. He always seems to manage it.

Just started watching.
Monfils must have been significantly tragic to have lost the first set to this Nadal.

Re: Oz open prediction game - day 8
Why doesn't Momfils play his old counterpunching game and juice Nadal out?
That's the least he can do.
Unless he is injured.
This Swedish coach has killed him as a player.
Though really no idea how he got to number 6, I don't remember him win anything last year.

Not surprising. The Swedish are the most weak and hapless nation on the planet. Probably told Monfailure that he needs to think about unicorns to succeed.

Re: Oz open prediction game - day 8
Monfils is actually stupid enough to believe he is a shotmaker, same as Verdasco.
They both pull of a great winner and then squander the next two points...
Just doesn't have brains to realise when it's the right time to pull the trigger and when to be patient.

If Monfailure wins the next 2 sets, he will have redeemed himself. Odds? Slim? Or just none?

He can't keep focus even for one point, let alone a set.
I don't know what needs to happen in his brain to simply watch the ball.

Actually, I feel sorry for Monfils...he is playing instinctive tennis but with no FH.
That's why he is so inconsistent. But at least he is having fun...

The key is: Monfils is afraid to go to Nadal's FH, while that's the place to go in order to hit winners

32 shot rally, Monfils did about everything wrong (where's that FH DTL for crying out loud!?) but he won the point. It's an uly match

At last!
Monfils gets into his zone and is able to relax and be himself.
He should make the most of it and at least take us to the fifth set.

And the fearful, little boy Monfils takes over....much quicker than I expected.
When I first saw this photo, it answered a lot of questions in my mind.
Behind the flashy clown...this is the real Monfils.

Did not see the match but shows how Nadal is beatable. To beat Nadal one needs a good sering base....and Rao has that.

Well, I can't believe I am saying this, but I am glad Nadal won.
He can put Monfils to shame with his dedication and focus.
Monfils threw this match with both hands. Very disappointing.

I actually don't mind any final now.
But my preferred would be Fed-Goffin.
The court is quick enough to provide a spectacle.
Dimi is doped, amd I still don't like his BH, such a big backswing.
It may sound strange, but to me, Goffin is much more a baby Fed than Dimi will ever be.

Federer will obliterate Goffin if they play. Goffin is too lightweight to trouble him. The match they played last year was laughably one-sided. Nadal or possibly Dimitrov (if he doesn't choke on the big stage) are the only players in that half who might give Fed a decent game.
