Federer on the surface.....

Q. How would you rate that? 19 aces and everything, but some of it seemed a little bit unstable.
ROGER FEDERER: I think the conditions played pretty fast. You're not going to see, like, some brutal rallies where you can out-maneuver the guys a million times in a row. I think it's really like first-strike tennis to some extent. It can take you a while to get into that, you know.

That's probably why I thought he was bit slow moving.

The first set is totally Djokovic sided..

I think Verdasco is still ruing the 5 missed chanced he had 9 days ago.

Just started watching.
I saw Nando live twice, once in Wimbledon when he beat Thiem in 5 and once in Boodles from row 1....wonderful FH, really wonderful...
The thing is, he gets carried away with it and and starts missing.

Nole is fast for him.

Nando's only chance is to play point by point, but I am not sure he can do that. Nole is a man on the mission.

Funnily that match in Doha last week will have helped him to focus on this one and escape a draining experience.

Thats' the case for lot of players on tour thats what on many occasions differentiate winners from losers.

Its extremely difficult to just focus on the only winning the next point completely forgetting what happened on the last one or how far the match is still left.

I thought Tsonga would win at least 1 slam, but he hasn't and by the looks of it, he doesn't look like winning any in future too.

Better than Roddick? No way. You've  forgotten how good Roddick was back then. Its was only against Fed lost so many slam finals. Roddick won a slam and made many finals. Tsonga only 1 final. If he was only losing to roadrunners, but no.

Yes, but Roddick ran away from the scene as soon as he saw he couldn't do anything.

Where would he be now had he stayed?

Maybe yes. Its personal decision.

But lets not take away what he already achieved.

Tsonga is not a slam winner mentally. Perhaps with such mindset he wouldn't have won a slam in any era.

It's all to do with who they had to compete against:

Not sure Roddick had such H2H.

This h2h is only saying 1/6 of the story. You don't have to beat 1 player to win a slam, you need to beat 7 in span of 2 weeks. Tsonga can't beat 7 players no matter who all come in his path.

I suppose Roddick had a better serve.
That was his weapon which enabled him to be more relaxed and successful, but for me, Tsonga was a better player, lot more flair.

I love matches like this...away from the madeening crowd...where the ump's  announcements from the megaphone sound like circus adds going through a village.

An occasional "ajde!" for dr Ivo (as if he doesn't need he needs to make an effort), has nowmgrown into a small choir of "Ivo'! Ivo!" in the changeovers...

Horazio, too has his followers...right now they are quiet, it's 19:20, 00:15, second serve....

Ivo does stretch for a ball THIS time and scrambles a lob that lands on the line, Horazio, dead on his feet reaches it but sends it out.

Ivo is alive.

He goes to his camp, they roar like wild animals.

Spare the thought for Horazio. brokenheart

Good thing about tennis, there is always another Monday.

True, however I wouldn't say that beating Murray at Wimbledon would give him the edge in the debate Winking

The 1 Slam victory 4 Runner ups would.

Federer turned out to be miles better than any of his generation bar maybe Nalby though Nalby's slam count is quite poor.

I think that anybody who can challenge Federer from 2006 and 2015 would have a more complete game than any past champions.

Roddick won his sole slams thanks to the US crowd cause without it Nalby woudl have dusted him in straight sets.
