that's bold....the rest is really not very risky!
A 20yo in the top 100, is very likely finish top 50 in the next 12 months.
I kind of agree with Raonic....he can do better. In fact I think he is one who can break Djoko's 1/4F streak....on grass preferably.

Well! That's bold. Very bold in fact. 6 is probably the most realistic but hope you right for most of those.

Re: Predictions for 2016
I find it reall difficult t make predictions for young players, mainly because of their fitness.
They simply can't compete even in the best of 3, let alone slams.
Only the really tall ones with big serves have had any success so far.

I thought I was quite realistic...but one has to dream a little, too!
Will be good to come back to these next year and see how we went.
Did we have this thread for 2015?

Re: Predictions for 2016
Happy and healthy 2016 everybody and here's to an exciting year in tennis as well!
Bold prediction: Average age of top 10 will go down for the first time in years. I expect Ferrer, Gasquet and maybe Berdych/Tsonga to drop out and some of Tomic/Raonic/Thiem/Kyrgios/Dimitrov to make them. I can't say who exactly because there are so many issues I couldn't guess, especially health related. All of them have the potential, one or the other will surprise. The iron grip of the old guard on the game will finally loosen. (And about time!)
Gasquet/Tsonga are injured again, Gasquet will miss AO, doesn't bode too well for his chances to stay in top 10. Ferrer just changed his racquet and it might not go as well as it did for some other players. But it does show to me that he is desperate by now.
Federer will stay in top 10, health allowing and continue to show consistent good level of play, but at the business end will fail more often than not.
Nishikori might stagnate this year.
I expect Djokovic to show first cracks and not win quite so much as last year. He might have reached his ceiling and there's only one way to go from there. He should still make No. 1 for sheer consistency.
Nadal might do better than last year, but I don't expect him to win a major or even make a final. He could have his chance at the FO, but he needs luck on his side like a good draw and some seeds falling (not like THAT's unheard of ).
Murray to again not win a major, I don't think he has progressed enough to reach that level. Will be consistent though and No. 2 is possible.
Expect the unexpected from Wawrinka. So does that mean he will win big or fail? I vote for the former. He could surprise at either AO/FO.

Re: Predictions for 2016
Welcome back AL and Happy New year to you.
agree ith av age of top 10 going down. We have some good prospects now.....and Fed and Ferrer are really showing their age now.
The Djoko prediction is kind of easy. He had almost a perfect year last year, very difficult to reproduce. Though He will be difficult to beat again this year.
I think Stan should do well too. He is still "young" and his confidence and timing can only improve. Plus I think that unlike Fed, he doesn;t mind using good recovery solutions.

And though top 10 av age might drop, I don;t expect any of the top 20, 50 or 100 to drop any time soon....not before new technology comes in or change of court pace.

Re: Predictions for 2016
I was trying to find my 2015 predictions but could not find them either here or on 606v2, though I felt certain I posted them, I guess not
I do not remember them all, but the ones I do remember were not doing so well:
- I thought Dimi would win a slam. Yeah right.
- I thought Stan would drop out of top 10. Uh oh.
- I thought top 20 at YE15 would be younger than YE14. I did not check, but am fairly sure I got that wrong too
- But, I also thought that Rafa would fail to win RG, and I did get that one right. On balance, I think I rather get this one right and the other three wrong than the other way around.

[quote="summerblues"]Here are a few of my predictions (roughly arranged from more reasonable to more hopeful):
1. Nole to finish year at #1, Rafa at #2
Rafa at number 2 can be gutsy but frankly only Stan and Murray can do something about it.....so not so risky a prediction after all. Especially if Nadal avoids Djoko before finals....like he avoided Federer in his rise to the top....to only meet him in clay finals.
2. Fed out of top 5 by YE
Possibly but very much down to his schedule.
3. Dimi and Kyrgios in Top 10
Kyrios won't be.
4. Thiem in top 15
He is already top 20 so frankly hardly a prediction. in fact that would mean he is injured or something.
5. A new slam winner
Ideally but struggle to find who could!
6. No slams for Andy
Yeah.....too heavy...but should Djoko fall early...he'd be on top of my list.
7. Kyrgios to make a slam final (and possibly win it)
Very gutsy...won't happen though. Let's be clear.

Djokovic to win 3-4 Grand Slams.
If he doesn't win one, the one he doesn't win will be won by Federer or Murray depending on the draw.

No chance he will win 4. He won't even do 3. You don't go through your entire career prime and then suddenly get 4 at his age.

Re: Predictions for 2016
Thought I would revisit this thread.
No new Slam winners which is disappointing. However some cracking predictions.
Thiem reaching a GS SF a good one. Djokovic's QF run is over another good one. Federer out of top 5. No-one thought it would be due to injury.

Re: Predictions for 2016
Some shit ones by me....
1. Fed to retire this year
Well, he ended up having to quit, but looks like he has no intention of retiring.
2. Kyrgios and Raonic to finish Top 10
Possible that this can still happen? Haven't checked the points needed.
3. A new slam winner
Nope. Really disappointing. Was sure that this would happen.
4. No slams for Andy
Goes along with above. Still, didn't think he'd win Wimb. No way.
5. Less than 2 slams for Djokovic
Again, over confident on the new breed coming through. Maybe next year?
6. Nadal to finish outside top 3.
Looking good.
7. Olympics win by Federer.
Pfft. Yeah, right.
9. Federer to win 0 slam
Ah, a correct one!
I was right Djok had no prayer of all 4 slams - but he still has chance to get 3 and that will round up my crap predictions, won't it?
I think Fed may have held on to top 5... but injury made sure he didn't - and now he will be out of top 16.

I thought yours weren't too far off Ten. Like the Thiem prediction.
I was doing OK in my predictions until Italy went out and Cilic won Cinncy and Federer got injured which I think stuffed up a lot of people's predictions.

Bold shout. Kyle Edmund will be in the top 50 with Murray and Bedene. - Could be right but maybe with Evans!
Kyrgios, Thiem, Chung, Coric to be in top 20 by year end - The former two yes, the latter two, especially Chung, no.
New slam winner - wrong.
Djoko to win 2 slams but i will say his qf streak at slams will end. - Great shout here if I do say so myself.
Raonic back in top 10 - correct.
